Good friend of mine passed away @ glen helen in between his motos @ the young age of 76 sitting in a lawn chair

I hope I'm lucky enough to enjoy it to the very end

I’ll be 60 in February 2026

Riding still, touch wood no serious injuries

I want to keep riding until it hurts too much.

I also workout every day, cardio, weight training.

I’m hoping to be the guy in the old age home telling stories of travel and exciting hobbies I d I’d when younger.

Turned 57 last week and no plans of stopping anytime soon. However, my back has been slowing me down these last few weeks. Hope to get through it soon and keep on keeping on….

Next year will be 50 years for me. A one year old 1975 YZ80B was my first bike at 13. No intentions of quitting. I got out of moto a few years ago . I’m retired and spend 2 to 3 weeks at a time in my rv out in the desert . I can no longer ride from my house like I did as a kid , so I take my house to where I can ride. I occasionally race district 37 events when it fits my schedule and still do pretty well in the over 60 expert class. Riding keeps me young on the inside.

Growing up, I always thought I'd "outgrow" motocross. I even quit for a while when I went to college, and then started racing again in my mid-20s. I got faster than ever, started doing well in the Vet classes when I turned 30, and just kept the ball rolling.

Now I'm in my mid 50s (55 in 3 months,) and I'm still riding. I'm not as fast as I once was, but part of that is from fear of letting it hang out. A week ago it took me half the day before I started jumping a medium-large double jump, and then I had to get towed off it. I'm still pretty quick when I'm not thinking about it, but the fear is there and the fitness is lacking, comparatively. Someday, I'll be too weak to really ride like this, and then I wonder if I'll enjoy it as much. If I can't push, will it be the same?

Anyway, I made a conscious decision a few months ago that I'm going to continue eating right, working out, and riding as fast as I can, whatever speed that may be. I want to be a fast, competitive person at least until I'm 60. At that point, I will have ridden for 50 years and I think I can relax a little and just ride to enjoy the breeze and the smells. Haha. I don't think I'm ever going to stop.

I started riding again in 21 . I never think about getting hurt . And I learned from you or remember you saying. After u broke up with a chic you rode like you didn’t care if you died. Lol  take fear out & you haul some ass & Its more fun. Like a fun joy ride. Getting my legs strong is tough & 6,3 to 6,0 in 2 1/2 + yrs Russian mob trucks blew my body out good. A lot is destroyed so I hv to run with what is left & except that & hv fun.

Me ?...well I'll be 68 when our riding season shows up again in the Spring. YZ250F, still hit the tracks.  Ride at my own pace and don't care who flies by! And as others have said it's great motivation to stay in shape. Also have my hot rod HDs and a couple of minis. No plans to stop. Have a poster in my shop...."You don't stop riding when you're old, you get old when you stop riding" . Tru dat !

I just turned 50 this year (how!?!?) and I’ve been riding since/ racing since I was 13. Back in 2020 I got heavily involved in competitive skydiving where our team has finished 1st and 2nd in the US Nationals in 2023 and 2025. Between owning a business with a crazy work schedule and a heavy team training / traveling schedule with skydive team training and big way events I haven’t ridden much in the past few years and I miss it so much.  I plan to make it a priority this year to ride more and have no plans to stop anytime soon. 65 this Saturday.  Ride off-road, race vintage MX, do a trials event occasionally and plan to ride more after I retire which is in 28 days.

58 last month. I don't race much anymore, just ride for fun, but still hit a few MX tracks in my area. A group of mates and me ride a few trail rides each year, great time to catch up with them and have a few beers. We rode in an 8hr pony express this year, and had a blast, so we are planning on doing more of them next year. No plans of giving up anytime soon.

I turn 67 next month, just filed for social security and sent out letters that I'm retiring at the end of the year, and my son will be taking over the business starting Jan 1st. I plan to start riding more, but I've had to accept the fact that I'm done racing motocross for various reasons, pain and risk vs reward being at the top of the list. I plan on doing more dual sporting and desert / trail riding, and traveling around the country in our camper exploring little towns and areas on motorcycles. (I have an EXCF 500 and wife has an XT250) Lately I've gotten more into E-mountain biking, I go all the time and can't get enough, did 12 miles today actually. There are boatloads of single track trails close to me so it's cheap an easy. I've been starting to do more challenging black diamond and double black diamond trails, it gets the adrenaline pumping with a lot less risk and pain than mx. Not to mention no driving 3-4 hours round trip to race 2 15 minute motos, no gate fees entry fees bike maintenance yada yada yada. It's quick and easy. Today I didn't leave the house until after 3pm, got 12 miles of single track and was home by 5. Pretty hard to beat that. You get a lot of "Yuck for your buck" lol.

Although I shouldn't say "Never race again"  I rode Ocotillo Wells with my son last Sun-Wednesday (we work around the big weekends now) He lives right down the street from Pala and informed me wants to join the otmx and start racing and taking his son to the track when he's old enough. (He's 2 now)  Who knows maybe I'll be headlight guy rolling around in the 70 class if that happens. So to answer the question how long do I intend to ride ? For as long as I can !

I'm 57, hope to ride as long as I can.  Definitely have slowed down, bad back, bad shoulder, bad knees all have their play in it but I have more bikes now than I ever have!  MX, Woods, Dual Sport, Adventure, Vintage and a couple pit bikes.

im 38, and as much as i love riding my dirt bike, finding the time seems to be the hardest part. My kids race 20-25 weekends per year, this doesnt leave much time for me obviously. Sucks to say, but i think my riding days will probably be over when my kids have to work for a living. Id say another 5-7 years and ill probably be out.

I have had lower back issues for years, some years I could barely ride due to back pain… went to PT and learned a bunch of stretches and yoga poses to strengthen core….It works, I still have occasional back pain but I can usually work it out with my stretching routine….swimming and hanging from pull up bar also helps….

I'm 55 and can't afford to buy a bike as I have too many other financial responsibilities. I do get to ride three or four time a year on one of my mates bikes and I love it.

I'd love to be able to do one day every weekend but it cant happen. So I get to cherish every minute that I get to ride. I do have a BW Yamaha 125cc scooter and it gives me plenty of joy to go for a spin.

For the rest of you, ride goddammit ride......one day you will be too old to ride.

Enjoy and stay safe.

61 this year, and still riding, and intend to keep riding. Been at this sport since about age 10. Mostly MX, some offroad and pitbike, and MTB to help keep me more fit. MTB is a blast and easy to fit into the work week, I like that aspect.

I discovered that hitting the gym has helped me immensely, where I used to "just get by" with my fitness up until about mid 50's. In fact, I sold my 450 and got a new 250 because I was struggling to hang on comfortably...now I am in so much better shape thinking about that 450 again. It's never too late to start a program and get some muscle mass back, I feel better now than at 55, and much stronger, and I do not get fatigued or tired as much.

For me, riding on my own terms, jumping only what I want to jump, I still get that thrill when I have a solid lap with no mistakes, hit all my marks, rail a berm, and have some flow - for me there is nothing better. Why stop?

Until this year, I have not missed a year racing since August of 1973. My back has given me issues this year that has weakened my legs to where I don't feel safe mixing it up with other riders. I'm getting an epidural injection on the 15th (2nd one) and I hope it helps. I've been cycling a lot (Peloton and mountain bike) along with PT and that is also helping. I have ridden some this year, but not able to push like I want to. I'm 67 and will continue as long as I can get my leg over my bike and ride. I have both modern and vintage race bikes and may gravitate more to the vintage racing, but nothing will ever replace the thrill of that gate dropping!

I'll been riding since 1973.   Retired last year. I'l  be turning 65 next month. As others have said along as I can get my leg over the seat I'll ride.  My wife bought me a new 300XCW for our 40th anniversary.  She is great!  The average age of my riding buddies is 62 and we have a blast together. Whether it is woods riding or promoting races. Life is good.

I turned 52 in October. Been riding since I was 13. The last 12-15 years all I have done is ridden, havent raced at all except for a couple team Hare Scrambles with my older boy.

This year my older boy talked me into racing a local Hare Scamble and I had a blast. Then later in the summer my younger boy talked me into racing a local MX. That really fire me up and I am looking forward to more racing and riding next season.

So to answer your question........I plan to ride and race as long as I am able.

516941813 10229921665929672 8811143976911616246 n.jpg?VersionId=6iCnAvsqhKBgNi0FRcehLcBeak2A530753902 10230280365376934 2177497857804268502 n

Where was that top picture taken? I must go lol. My plan is to ride and "race" as long as I am physically able to. I already dont care about how fast I am or am not, so its just about having fun and making memories.

until my body tells me I can't do it safely anymore, or unable to fully recover from any future planned surgeries that will be needed in years to come. I have multiple vintage street bike projects out of 20 years deep storage now that were thought to be something "for later". Later is now and shifted more of my time and $ them.

55, dont ride as much as I'd like to, but still get out. Both knees are shot hip is getting bad have to stand on bike stand to get leg over and both shoulders are bad. My street bike is a RC51 and I get surprised looks when I take my helmet off at gas stations. Hands start going numb after awhile anymore.

70 and went riding on a local practice track yesterday.  Still ride trials, offroad, and if we could get our act back together here in AZ, vintage motocross.  The answer to the question...until I can't.

I don't think anyone ever really plans to stop. Someday you'll have your last ride and if you're lucky enough to avoid a career-ender you probably won't even realize it at the time. So make them all count.

I rode in Moab with a 76 year old and he did pretty well! Looks to me like riding keeps you young, people who ride into their 80's are in much better shape than non riders.

That's awesome!  It's got to help physically and mentally with the focus and quick decision-making required.  Ride On!
