Timo Added a reply to 2027 Honda CRF450R and HRC Works Edition
12 hours ago Yamaha has been using titanium exhaust valves since the 426 iirc. I've had a 98 wr400, it's valves were steal, 03 yz250f, 07 wr250f, two 19 450fx's, and a 24 450fx with zero valve issues. Keep the filter clean and they'll outlast the bike.

Timo Added a reply to Has anyone ever built a bike from scratch?
8/3/2026 10:00pm I bought a 2019 YZ450FX roller chassis for spare parts for my race bike. It had less than 20 hours on it and I decided it was too nice and started looking for an engine for it. USA prices are stupid for used dirt bike engines, so I did some paperwork and got a WR450F engine from Australia. It was...

8/1/2026 5:49am Really just focus on weight loss, e-start, and new bodywork. Just like the yz250, no reason to try and chase the stability vs cornering flip flop other manufacturers are always doing.
Timo Added a reply to Do frames “wear out” ?
7/31/2026 10:28am IIRC race teams junk a frame around 200 hours, so for most of us they'll last the life of the bike.
Timo Added a reply to Carpal Tunnel Surgery, Yay or Nay
7/31/2026 10:24am I rode my mtb bike the day before my second surgery, I waited for a month after the second one before riding. My doctor wanted the swelling to go down before I did anything with lots of vibration. Grip strength was down for 6ish months, but remember most of us riders have stronger grip than the average adult male. 2...

Timo Added a reply to Carpal Tunnel Surgery, Yay or Nay
7/31/2026 10:12am Wish I would have done mine 20 years ago, it's been awesome riding and sleeping without my hands going numb. I did the carpal tunnel and the ulnar transposition surgeries. Did my right arm and then left 2 weeks later. I returned to work the next day after both surgeries with common sense restrictions.

Timo Added a reply to Can we talk about how s***** the used bike market is right now
7/29/2026 9:11pm They're surprisingly reliable actually. I generally do the dielectric grease in the connectors and so far haven't had an issue on any of my newer bikes. I swear it took 100 gallons of water to clean this 😂.

7/29/2026 3:57pm Why I stopped buying used long ago, spend 3/4 a new bike fixing everything and still have an old bike.
Timo Added a reply to Engine rebuild cost
7/29/2026 3:44pm Did it blow-up or is this preventative maintenance? That makes a big difference. How many hours are on it? I routinely put 120-150 hours on 250f top ends, never had to replace a 4-stroke crank. Don't let online people who change oil every 30 minutes, clean air filters every lap, and rebuild their engines every 12 hours scare you into...
Timo Added a reply to Washougal Jett/Haiden 6 laps sprint datas
7/29/2026 3:29pm Tim Ferry, K-dub, Sebastian, James Stewart, ect always just needed a few extra seconds a lap to match RC. Bubba got close but no one was ever able to beat RC outdoors consistently. Jet is on that level of domination, other than his brother I don't think anyone beats him outdoors and he retires a champion.

7/29/2026 3:23pm Other than too much branding, I like my set from 2018. It's got some extra venting in the knee area, but I like the bright color ways.
Timo Added a reply to Ryno: Americans are less skilled at motocross because our tracks are pampered and we don't ride when its wet
7/26/2026 8:54pm Our really good riders don't care about mx, that's the main difference. If mx paid as well as supercross, they'd all be way better at it. Listen to Webb talk about being checked out on the outdoors, they just don't care. A select few just want to win and are really good, but when you have guys riding around just...

7/23/2026 3:09pm I got tired of my moto gloves blowing out the seems or wearing holes in the fingers in one race, so I started wearing leather ranching gloves a lot of the time. Works great and lasts a very long time!
