We had a backyard track just outside of the city in a community of 3-5 acre plots. We also rode in the big ditch right behind some of the houses. Only had an issue with a couple of the neighbors. One guy yelled at me for wheeling down a dirt road. I said his grandkids did way more damage with the gocart doing donuts and he never said anything again. The other guy brought it up at a community meeting and everyone told him to drop it, he ended up moving. I still ride around there with my kids when we go see my parents, no one has said anything since that one jerk off moved. Just put a quiet insert in your bike and ride during the day.

If it’s your dream to have your own track go for it! Lots of good feedback in here. Mine is similar but I’ll throw it in anyway.

Had a backyard track at my place for about 15 years. On about 5 acres. We kind-of built it in phases over time. Letting the land flow and elevation factor in as much as we could. I probably spent more time grooming, mowing, weed whacking, than actual riding. But it was a dream come true. Once or twice a year we would have “ride days” at my place. 20-30 bikes. Buddies, families and kids. It will forever be some of mine and my kids favorite memories. We had favorable neighbors and never any major complaints. But we were respectful about the times we rode.

Our track was about half in the woods and half in the fields. If i could do it again, i would put as much as i could in the woods. The shade combined with the leaf litter kept the ground more moist and less prone to rain ruts. You will definitely spend some time with a weedwhacker and mower, be ready! Pay attention to drainage and slope so you don’t get puddles/soggy spots that never drain and dry. It’s a labor of love but for me at least it was worth it all.

We have since sold the property and the track is gone. But now we have 60 acres in Georgia and a blank slate, sooo….. :-)

Keep as many trees as possible and just be mindful of what time of day you ride.

Be cool with your neighbor.  Your in the country.

Where i live everyone rides all the time.  Different type of people in the country.

Well I guess we'll see. Again I hear and understand your point but its not an absolute or the only possibility. Again thank you for your input but I continue to plan on building something on my property.

I gotta ask why you created the thread asking about it in the first place, if its a case of you just doing it no matter what. I had the same reaction as many, but i'm not going to rain on your parade without knowing what your community dynamics are. I have 20 acres in solid forest and there is no way it would fly here. neighbors are on 20 acres as well and I back on to crown land. I have had messages from neighbors for riding my bike for an hour once every couple weeks. Just my experience. Very well could be different for you. I don't think it would be a bad idea to get the neighbors blessing before hacking up the land though, or be prepared to go and buy an electric bike immediately after the first complaint. Once there is a couple complaints and the neighbors aren't happy, they will complain every time the wind blows your wind chimes. Besides the noise stuff, and I mean no offense by this, but 4 acres is just not a big enough plot imo. I have told myself if I want a moto track, the minimum is 50 acres and a good neighbor set up. Best of luck whatever you decide, moto track out the back door is definitely a dream!

Land is different in different places.

In more rural areas in more free states, the idea of anyone having a say what you do on 20 acres can be downright absurd.

Saying 50 acres needed for a backyard track is lunacy, that's a pretty huge swath once opened up.

This is Breezewood Proving Grounds (local to me)

Pro track, intermediate track, kids track. Owner's home, cabins, camper parking, large paved lots, pro shop, dining hall, multiple pavilions and restroom facilities, stands, a fairly large swimming lake with small beach and waterslide: 42 acres.

I hear ya. And totally agree you dont need the 50 acres for the space. And I am talking about a relatively full size track, which i see the OP is talking much smaller scale. Around here its noise. Im definitely rural, and there is no restrictions that would affect it other than "unnecessary noise". There was a guy about a mile down the road that had a full size track and a mini track. There would be 3-4 450s riding there on average like 3 days a week plus some smaller bikes. It was good for 3-4 years but he got shutdown last year for noise. He was on 50 acres in the forest. There are some environmental nutjobs around me though. I definitely think a stark or atleast a surron is in my future tho and I would have no problem building a track for that. I would probably be ok to ride pitbikes around every once in a while. If I lit up 3 450s for 2 hours I would bet $100 i would get a message from a neighbor tho. Im in alberta, canada.
