Can't help but laugh at the thought of there being *anything* universally agreed upon on Vital, either.

Robbie Reynard. He was so smooth he didn't look like he was trying. Swink when he was on it was a thing of beauty.

Sebastien Tortelli  passed both Stefan Everts and Ricky Carmichael in their prime when they were still racing with 250 two stroke's. Sadly injuries and introducing four stroke's in pro motocross ruined his career

Yeah I’m gonna say Vuillemin his style always looked awesome. And he did beat the best riders  like MC and RC head on. When I look at everts his riding style looks boring so easy going I prefer the wild style like Vuillemin Herlings Bubba if I. Want to see smooth riding I go watch F1 races

Bubba was an animal but MC and Reed had excellent technique. I’m too young to comment on Bayle but from the one video I did see he was solid. Windham also.

I think Bubba is grouped in with RC as being this wild rider just hanging off the bike. I think his technique is overlooked because of all his get-offs. He had great technique.  Until he didn't if you know what I mean lmao

One of the best technique riders especially in the ladder half of his career. And crashing doesn't have much to do with technique at that level, look at Sexton.

The time Bubba rode a 250f and just absolutely demolished the field shows how incredible he was on a 125..

As far as a newer gen rider goes.....I always wanted to see Marv on a factory prepped KTM sx250.  He rides a 2 stroke just as good or better than anyone I've ever seen.

I'll go way back and say David Bailey for being smooth and graceful.

James Stewart hands down. There is no one else who could have challenged 450 mounted RC on a 250 2stroke. That was the hardest / fastest a 250 2stroke was ever, and will ever be ridden.

Windham is smooth but his elbows all the way down - terrible technique. In 95 on a factory yz125 he got smoked real bad. Smart rider tho to cruise around in 2nd to extend his career.  The last rider to win a 250 championship has to b included.  Rad Chad Johnson on a yz250 always had perfect form every second on the track. Being from the Great  north woods of Wisconsin he was ovr looked buy the factories, big time.

Windham also out weighed his main competitors by at least 25-30 pounds on a 125. His back was against the wall.

When I think bulldogging types of racers, I think Carmichael, Villopoto, and Tomac. All ride great but have a riding style that maybe isn’t the most proper (“best”).

When I think graceful, smooth, efficient I think about Windham, Dungey, Sexton, and now Lawrence.

All of these bros are 4 stroke racers. I want to see some smooth, efficient, skilled 2-stroke racers.

I know you said 90s-00s but I'd extend a little and include:

David Bailey

Jeff Stanton

Jean-Michel Bayle !!

Ron Lechien

then of course

Jeff Emig

Ricky Carmichael

James Stewart

Kevin Windham

Check some 98/99 125 GPs on YouTube and watch Alessio Chiodi.  Also the same era 250 class has some great racing and wonderful technique from Everts and Tortelli.

If you watch early 2000s stuff where Pichon is on a 2 stroke vs Everts on the 4 you can really see the different styles between how the bikes work. Also watch the 99/00 125 nationals as it was the last years with no 250Fs.  And check out anything Windham won in 01 outdoors on the Suzuki.

Reed through the whoops on a 250 2 stroke is always a good watch/listen

Since I saw MC and Windham come up a few times, it reminded me of this race where they got out front and were the only 2 hucking a triple step up 2 corners before the finish. 250 main starts at 1:12~... Sound is amazing at the start. Also, a stark reminder that today's supercross track designs are boring...

Damon Huffman was like poetry in motion on a 2-stroke 125 and 250 Suzukis and later on a 250 Kawasaki also.

McGrath was the best in his prime no doubt. However, I wasnt a MC fan because i rode a Yamaha. I was always pissed when he won because all my race buddys rode red. lol

I pulled for anyone besides MC to win. Bradshaw had great technique for sure as well. He still looked good riding laps at LL's this year too.

Stewart’s talent supported his riding technique. If you think you have a similar level of talent, go for it!

For mere mortals, Tortelli epitomizes body positioning and a technique that applies to most riders. Neutral positioning, head stable and over the bars, not radically maneuvering the bike. Crazy dynamics often unsettle the bike and can be exhausting. For the average Joe (Jo?) Seb is a great candidate.

But Reed was the last one to win a race on one. Vegas SX '05.

MC probably rode the bike in the power the best.

Ricky rang the neck out of a 2 stroke the best.

Reed was the smoothest on a 2 stroke.

Stewart was the best controlled chaos on a 2 stroke.

Jeff Ward stands back laughing at the naivety of it all.
