I dunno… When a guy can be a 9-5 Regular Joe & go out and race with this crowd, he may have an entirely different perspective than the average fan. He might even have a sarcastic view of the “factory rider” life and be a bit annoyed at some of the whining he hears and sees. With that taken into account, I can see where he’s coming from. Nothing is easy about penalties. You're trying make a general rule that's fair in most situations that in some specific situations appears to be too harsh. There almost always will be a subjective element about making the call, and because of that some people will second guess it (or applaud it), in most cases based on how they feel about the rider at issue. A position penalty is at least fixed; with a time penalty a rider might lose no positions or five positions depending on how close the racing is.

They follow the rules and still get fucked over by the AMA. Remember the lights situation earlier this year during SX.
