In the mid seventies we fit three full size bikes and gear in the back of my 1972 Datsun pickup and three of us in the cab. When that's your only option, that's what works. Now, I don't know how the hell we did it!!!

The Maverick is my goto transportation 95% of the time, 26 mpg.  My poor Cummins just sits and it's 18 mpg unless I need it to haul something big and heavy.

Mini-trucks are great, but I can't live without a full-size van for motocross racing.
I picked up this 1992 Toyota last year and fixed it up over the winter.
It's all original with 154k and looks great with my 1990 KX in the back.

I had a 2022 Maverick AWD with the eco boost. But I sold it for $5k more than I bought it for. But... I ordered a 2024 hybrid base model which, if you believe the message boards, get around 45-50 mpg.

So IF I ever get my new one I will report on it but I really liked my XLT AWD

"Yep, I was able to get mine last November. It's the Ecoboost, XLT luxury trim package with FX4 and a few other options (spray in bed liner, tiedowns, etc.). I absolutely love the truck, have 6,000 miles on it now and have towed my bike/+ others to different tracks around PNW. This isn't the hybrid version but I average 26 mpg doing 50/50 city & highway, and 29-32mpg only highway with bike in back. Comfort is amazing for me, and the ecoboost with 250hp has plenty of pep to get up and go. Will easily fit 2 full size bikes in back with gear, I've seen some do 3 bikes on forums but that would be a tight fit. After visiting Australia and seeing all the trucks being driven there... it's kind of funny that we are just now seeing trucks like the Maverick come into the US market when nearly all the vehicles over in AUS are similar in size (Navara, Amarok, Hilux, etc)."

Certainly recommend the Moto-Gate, use it when me and my wife are both riding and using the truck. Hell these Mavericks don't look much smaller than two bikes in a 5.5 foot full size bed lol. I can easily fit one bike at a diagonal in the bed but two bikes have to run this setup.

I believe you could get close to that from a hybrid.
One of my customers has the SUV (is that the explorer?) that appears to be on the same / similar chassis and he says he gets 42mpg with it.

All the people reporting on the message boards are claiming 45-55 mpg!!

I actually had my order for  2023 but Ford pushed it to a 2024. The base model hybrid is the one they are not making enough of (as it is the one that has the smallest profit margin!(.

So crossing my fingers I actually get the '24.

That is a beauty man, nice find 👍

When one of our AE86's go to a new home, there might well be a Hilux in its place.

I'm finishing off putting a big turbo VW 1.8T into a dirty ol' '01 Ford Ranger with a 7ft bed this winter to haul the bikes with a little more pace next summer 😂

The SUV version is the Escape Hybrid.  I have one.  Unloaded I'm averaging 45-48 MPG.  Just did a 1900 mile road trip to Diamond Don's Vintage National a couple of weeks ago with my Ossa Phantom on a hitch carrier and got right at 38 MPG running 75-80 on mostly interstates.  Probably could have easily bumped it up to 40+ MPG if I had run 65-70 MPH.

I hate driving a trucks but i drive Silverado because i need it for work. If i had my choice i would rather pull my bikes with a car . Sometimes I use my wifes Honda Odyssey with a bike rack and thats perfect.

It's no Ridgeline :-) But looks like it does the job - impressive MPG for sure

I have a Colorado cause all I do is haul my bike around, but my buddy got a Maverick and it absolutely blown the fuel efficiency of my truck out of the water. On the highway I can get around 9L/100KM, versus the Mav at 5.8L/100KM. It's my next truck. I was considering a Ridgeline as well but they are too similar to my 22 Colorado. I love my truck but it's really bad on gas in the city.

Fuel is around 1.70 per L here. Around 6.50/Gallon

I went from a Ridgeline to an F-150 4x4 Supercab.  My gas mileage increased by about 3-4 mpg and my towing capacity doubled.  The Ridgeline can't compare to an Ecoboost equipped Ford.

Your driving patterns must be way different than mine. I’ve average 26mpg with my Ridgeline lifetime so far of about 65k miles.

Just like the Honda Ridgeline. Back wheel fits by like an inch. I didn’t think it would fit either.

9/23/2023 11:11am

Was interested in one when they were introduced, $22K MSRP with 40ish MPG? Hell yeah. Welp, I didn’t jump on it quick enough, and now Autotrader is flooded with “used” ones with less than 100 miles on them, selling for $30-40K.

So I’m still driving my ‘09 V6 Sport Trac… a compact truck that gets the shitty MPG of a full-size, lol

How's the interior quality on these?  Decently quiet on the highway?  I drive a ton-like 65k miles a year as a sales rep and I pay expenses so I've thought about one of these. I wonder if they make a cap for the bed as that would be handy for me too.  I just can't handle driving something that has a ton of wind noise and crap seats etc.  Currently driving a little Lexus hatchback hybrid but this might make more sense if it really gets 40ish going 75-80.

Decently quiet but I feel the finish is “cheap” and that is on the lariat trim level. Too much plastic

I looked pretty seriously into these to use as a work car and honestly they kind of have a lot of issues.  Lots of axle issues, battery drain issues, and other piddly stuff.  I'm sticking with Toyotas.  I put a couple hundred thousand miles on them with no issues.  And the interior does feel super cheap and since I drive 50k plus miles a year I want a nice place to be in and quiet.

I’ve had my 2022 model since April 2022 and  very happy with it. Fuel economy is much closer to my wife’s Honda Civic than my son’s F150.  No problems with it, and it’s surprisingly capable for hauling furniture or other minor tasks. I had an F150 and it was more than I needed. I never towed anything or hauled anything large enough to warrant having a truck that size. This truck is perfect for what I need.

Tacoma is probably my favorite currently. Love the appearance of the Jeep Gladiator, but I don’t need those headaches!

I have had quite a few recalls, one of which involved replacing the battery. And I don’t drive nearly a much as you do. My 2022 has 70k kilometres (about 43k miles). That said, I’ve not had any problems. The interior isn’t as cushy as the F150 that I had but it’s built to a price point, and the interior is about what you’d expect for the price. If a person can be happy with that, then it’s great.

Yeah if it was just a spare vehicle that I didn't drive much it wouldn't be as big of a deal for sure.  I live in my damn car haha!  My current work car is a Lexus UX250H that I bought in April of 22 with 10k miles on it. I am just about to 230k now with zero issues and basic service.  I just need a little more space for my next car so a maverick with a bed cap would have been great if it was nicer with less issues.  There are rumors of a Toyota version of a Mav and I'd definitely look into one of those if it's a hybrid.

i have worked at ford dealership for last 30 years {parts counterman}. i will say maverick seem to be pretty reliable. we see less of them in shop than any other model. Yes they do have some issue but minor compared to other fords/Lincoln. we had a tech go to ford school for some training, the instructor told class maverick is only ford worth owning right now! my son just bought one he loves it.

I bought a used 2017 crew cab "long" bed Nissan Frontier last year for hauling my bike around and pulling a small camper. For the money I could have bought a brand new Maverick. Kinda wish I did that instead... If I'm gonna get grief for driving a mid size I might as well go full pull and get the car truck.

The Nissan is great fun to drive and has been a workhorse for me, but everything else about it kinda sucks. Worst in class fuel economy for a mid size truck, lots of little issues I have had to fix (it is a Nissan after all), and questionable build quality in some components.

On the fuel economy front, all my family members that drive GM half tons with the 5.3 get better fuel mileage than I do!

The mid size truck really is a stuck in the middle thing. This whole experience has somewhat made me understand why this is a shrinking market sector, and the car trucks are taking over. I do wish you could still get a body on frame truck the size of the original Ford ranger. The newest "mid" size trucks from Ford and GM are basically the size of a half ton from 20 years ago.

Now if they came out with a single cab long bed Maverick. El Camino spec. That would be something...
