My son and I had this discussion on the way to the track on Friday and I firmly believe that the bikes with all their hp and capabilities have exceeded what the most fit human body can withstand in the event of an accident. We are built to take a certain amount of abuse as a human and be “ok” for the most part. (See other sports that take hits or sudden stops) but we have breeched the threshold where everything now is more severe it seems. Take Achilles injuries these last couple years for example. I don’t know how you feel about children dieing while participating in motocross, I know it makes me sick to my stomach though…. it’s becoming more of an issue every year. The manufacturers, track owners and sanctioning bodies need to have a serious discussion with one another. I don’t know the solution but I do know 100ft jumps, the suspension that allows you the confidence to do them “confidently” on a super mini and 80hp electric bikes isn’t a step in the right direction nor is it necessary to have close and exciting racing.
