A 450 in 3 versions (mx xc/enduro and road legal seems the obvious model first, but where else do they go. Are they doing a whole range , are they going electric ?
Being the frame will be the same between the MX and off-road models (like other brands) its not *too* surprising they are going to be aiming for two demographics. However, its a massive investment, especially if they are making their own motor packages, which I suspect they will.
I'd expect a 250F and 450F alongside a small displacement 2 stroke, 250 two stroke and 300 two stroke.
Suspension, brakes, clutch, bar, wheels etc will all be outsourced (duh). Curious if they'll go EFI on their 2 stroke models (which is a big assumption they'll even make them) or carb them.
Overall its a very big undertaking, but plenty of good stuff to "learn from" already in circulation. Plus, they clearly have supply chain management dialed.
Be fun to see another bike enter the fray. And no, I wouldn't expect an electric bike right out of the gate. They don't have an on-road electric motorcycle (which is more feasible) though they do have one in development.
I think lots of positive can come from this. Maybe immediately, maybe in the mid term.
With Bajaj being a major shareholder, I think many parts will be shared, let us not be too excited and expect too much. What is great for the group is the dealership network then extended will drive growth, and make dealerships very happy. Economy of scale may help ktm too as they are really making a push in motogp, which is a really big invest. I would not be surprised to see Triumph giving it a go too in the longer term.
Triumph has also its own identity, a high quality standard, and is coming from a country with a big passion for motorsports (and its own market that I think will welcome well the brand in mx). Although the bikes may share many parts (I.e : the engine, which is cool as it is proven), I don't expect a grey ktm. I would guess (and hope) we may see more components like the boutique brands like beta, sherco, tm, maybe some kayaba solva marzochi, or maybe an aluminium frame or tank. Something quite on the higher end (for instance a great base a bit like what Seely did to his bike). Any differentiation would be cool as I would think the parts could be adaptable then on the other bikes (ktm, husky, gas gas), which may make some hardcore fans quite their own bike. A team in the US and in MXGP would also be awesome to see.
Triumph as a business is very conservative, so they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't think they could do it well.
I'm speculating, but I would imagine this project is not expected to make money by itself, but rather to add value/legitimacy to their adventure bikes, and potentially act as a test bed for new ideas for the rest of their range. And let's be honest, that's probably why KTM pour so much money into racing and why Suzuki won't.

Id love to see Triumph take on Suzuki's parts and re build there bike with modern equipment and technology.

knowing KTM's market share. there isn't many bikes made now that don't share KTM parts.
