I don't think it should be an either/or when it comes to fossil fuels and other forms of generation. Ideally it would be a mix of several different sources and the source would be determined by conditions. I grew up with massive amounts of hydro power. It was/is fantastic from a pure dollar standpoint. It wasn't the greatest thing for the ecosystem in some ways, but it was a tradeoff. There are a couple of different concepts that get mixed up in these threads. I do think the promoter should subsidize reasonable travel costs for member federations. As someone else mentioned they have something like 125 member federations so they will have to limit it somehow - maybe top 30 countries from the previous year? This could encourage teams not to skip a year or they don't get their expenses paid the next year. I didn't single out infront. I'm talking about ALL of the costs and revenues, not just the promoters and sanctioning bodies. If the numbers are close, let's say about 50K tickets at an average of $100 per ticket. That's $5M in gate revenue. That doesn't include sponsorship monies, probably not any of the VIP packages, etc., so that number is probably at least close. $5K per rider sanctioning fee equates to about $500K, so that means that just ticket sales would equate to a gross revenue of about $4.5M. The BOTTOM-LINE: The promoters charge and get PAID ridiculous amounts of money for this ONE RACE…The MXON. It’s time they kicked down for the countries that compete by providing a legitimate amount for travel/lodging/per diem for the attending teams. In order to be fair, actual expense research would be required to cover fair amounts based on actual travel expenses.
