Added reply in a thread A little help in Sacramento? 11/24/2020 8:49 AM

Seems like it's pretty well sorted out, but I'm about 30min outside of Auburn and would be happy to service the forks and shock at no cost if you provide parts. I've been doing it for riding buds for years.

Haha, exactly what came to mind as well. Younger folks may not remember, but new riders went through the exact same thing back in the smoker days. They figured that 125's were for kids, 250's were okay, but pretty much aaaaaaaall the bigger dudes went ... more »

Added reply in a thread I'm Canceling My Geico Insurance! 10/10/2020 6:59 PM

We've had Geico all these years from being a Kevin Windham fan and two years ago some dirtball had a bunch of stuff fall out of his rental truck on the freeway and a furniture dolly did about $2500 in damage to our truck. Not only did Geico cut a check ... more »

I love that it splits the weight across two separate mounting points. Unfortunately, there's no practical way to just make a kit like this. You'd have to sell it with a modified hitch and nobody's going to want to do that.

Added reply in a thread Alta owners - How have the bikes been holding up? Parts/Support? 10/8/2020 1:25 PM

Maybe true five years ago. No mfr would be paying $2ea for ncr18650a's today and especially not via surplus pallets and even more so when you have to remove them from an assembly. I don't think tesla is even using 18650's anymore.

Added reply in a thread Alta owners - How have the bikes been holding up? Parts/Support? 10/8/2020 1:17 PM

Probably not for the cells alone. The original conversation was about a rebuild. A complete assembly would involve the bms, the waterproof housing, heatsinks, on and on. That would easily cost more than a grand.to do a half decent job.

But I never presented it that way. I said, "if you're resourceful enough...". I get your general point though, it just doesn't work aimed at myself, because I presented it correctly.

We have the Over The Hill Gang out here and Old Timers MX and they're super nice groups of supportive folks that make stuff like this nothing but fun. I'd definitely go for it if you have something like that out there. All dirt bikers are nuts, fwiw. ... more »

I realize that. That's where the "resourcefulness" part comes in. Resourcefulness isn't going to a Yamaha dealer and having to choose between their price, or nothing. Resourcefulness is finding another option. You can get on CL right now and buy that ... more »

Who's to say. I don' event know if they even have enough in stock to build one Alta pack. Point being, resourcefulness with owning...pretty much anything, when parts aren't available used to be a super old school American trait and you can choose to ... more »

Added reply in a thread Alta owners - How have the bikes been holding up? Parts/Support? 10/8/2020 11:05 AM

You could definitely spend a hundred hours rebuilding a pack, but not thousands of dollars. If you're resourceful enough you can get a ncr18650a as low as ~50c to 60cea and I think there are ~504 of them in there? It could be only $300-$400 in parts ... more »

IIRC you can skip out on property taxes in TX altogether if you have a little land with a few cattle.

Added reply in a thread Another Reason to get OUT of California >>> 9/28/2020 4:24 PM

If the goal is to get away from morons, there is nowhere to go. However, if California dumb doesn't match your specific taste for dumb, surely you will find other places where their dumb is a better match for your dumb.

Those that don't like it should try cross country if you really want to know what cheating looks like. Anstie's move is the cross country equivalent of stopping to pet a kitten.

Added reply in a thread How does Barcia not get docked..huge track cut 9/27/2020 12:18 PM

That sounds like a terrible idea. The choice shouldn't then be made by those who are incentivized to stay on the track as long as possible. If that was something you really wanted to do, then the more correct method would be to create new black flag ... more »

So what would the rule be then? Would we need a committee to determine what "fine" is and when you can pull off, versus when you must take a DNF?
