I’ve heard that to use windmills to supply electricity to New York City, they would have to clear off the rest of the state for windmills.

But if the lgbt people offend you, which they reeeaaally seem to, does that make you a pussy also?

I wish more folks would take a minute to test things out to see how they work in other directions...

Yes it is possible. Definitely not probable, but it is possible. Search around and let me know if you find anything. I searched before posting and what I found shows fattening margins. And we all know that, because whenever news hits, the price is often raised within hours, which we know that the cost of that gas that's in the tanks in the ground couldn't have been increased due to the news that just hit, so it's pure margin fattening when we see that.

My search also shows that the government is getting rich. Let me know what you find when searching for trends of congress member wealth over last xx years.

The reason the oil companies are making record profits is simple, if you take time to educate yourself. That reason is speculators in the futures markets. Back in the 1980's, the oil producers determined the price of oil based on physical deliveries. Supply and demand. Then came futures trading and speculators to bid up the price of a barrel of oil based upon supply and demand, while factoring in all the external risk factors.

Currently, around 3% or oil futures contract trading results in physical deliveries. Effectively it's Wall Street fucking main street.

I wasnt able to find anything agreeing with that as a/the reason why oil companies are reporting record profits. Got a link? I dont care where it's from, just anything I can use as a spring board.

The reason that oil companies are making record profits (if they are) is because Trump started a war and the price of oil is up 40%. People quickly forget that oil was selling for less than a dollar 5 years ago. Speculators were not able to shit about that. Gas was under a dollar is some places.

How much energy and money goes into windmills before they’ve been stood up and made their 1st watt? Where are they made…by whom?

How silly is clearing woodland for solar panels? (currently what’s goin’ on in upstate New York)

There’s plenty of productive and plausible green energy opportunities…but, when left to the politicians…the subject becomes an absolute shit show.

In SoCal, on land I’d owned until very recently…out in the Dez near Edwards AFB…there’s a solar farm goin’ up. No one displaced. Bare Dez land and not even a real impact on wildlife …well…according to the EIR.

There are alllllllll sorts pf way to make energy. Some are less expensive and and more productive than others.

And the price of oil is up 40% because speculators bid it up there due to increased geopolitical risk (due to the ware you mentioned). My point was the people vilifying the oil companies for their record profits don't understand that the oil company isn't saying "This barrel of oil costs X". The market sets the price, not the producer.

Copy and paste this into Google search "oil trading for delivery versus speculation historical volume". There are numerous documents outlining how spec trading is done, and how it affects pricing.

When you say "affects pricing", are you talking about stock/futures related pricing? I'm talking about record profits, as in margins. Markets are mostly emotional these days. There is no predictable 1:1 connection between margins and market pricing. Tesla stock would never be worth as much as it is if stock pricing were anywhere near related to the position of the company relative to the other leaders. Their stock is 80% emotional, 20% merit. The market doesn't set the price in any sort of pure sense like you're suggesting because, while they may not have direct throttling control of pricing, they have direct throttling control of pricing through volume and lobbying (special military operations).

What you don't seem to grasp is that the market trades in oil futures set the pricing for a barrel of oil. The costs to produce it are relatively inelastic. Given that the cost to produce is relatively stable, when oil contracts are bid up, the margins increase. By the same token, when the contracts are down, producer margins shrink.

A share of stock in a company represents an ownership stake. It exists as long as the company does. A commodity futures contract is a contract to buy or sell that commodity. At the maturity date of a futures contract, you either take physical delivery of the commodity, or you're obligated to deliver that commodity. You're comparing apples to cornflakes.

I'd agree more if production volume wasn't a direct control of pricing and if these companies existed in isolation of govt.

Where were these speculators when the price was under a dollar?

I understand that oil is traded worldwide and that there are speculators that never take delivery but they take it in the ass too. It's a little too simplistic to say that , but for the speculators, oil would be cheap. Besides, nobody is really talking about completely changing the way oil is traded. A better way is not start stupid wars in the middle east.

But back to the topic: renewable energy is a bullshit, unscientific term used by people who want to sell their form of energy consumption by making it sound virtuous. No such thing as renewable energy. It is simply energy.

At the barbershop taking a haircut is where they were.

Oil wouldn't be cheap without speculators, I'm sure. The price wouldn't be as volatile though, and when the prices get bid up because of stupid crap like new wars in critical areas, the oil companies make insane profits. People act like the oil companies are evil and they point to their profits to prove it. The point I was making was that oil companies do not set the sale price of their product. Hence they do not entirely control their profit margins.

Most people who point to the profits the oil companies make as proof of them being evil or guilty of gouging have no idea how commodity pricing works.

Just throwing one small part of the fallacy of wind energy out there...

A medium sized wind generator field uses more concrete than the entire annual production of the cement plant that I work at can produce to support said concrete.

That windmill field requires more than 350,000 tons of cement, 2,200MW of electrical power (ours is hydroelectric), 70,000 tons of coal, and 20,000 tons of petroleum coke to produce, and generate metric shit tons (literally) of CO2.

This is all JUST for the foundations of those wind turbines. Before a single bit of the tower is erected. Before all the oil is used to make the tons of carbon fiber required. Or the metric shit tons of ore is mined and smelted to make the copper for the motor windings.

Wind energy is a complete farce once you drill down the energy chain required to produce a single watt of power out of it.

add in the fact that the blades can't be recycled and instead are buried in landfills.

My perfect energy plant has not yet been built. In CA we have vast desert area. We could take a number of acres and build a solar concentration plant. The problem with current designs is, they use mirror lenses to focus on a tank up high. Among other problems, a bird flying by is instantly incinerated. A simple change of lenses to a glass fiber underground grid eliminates all that. No above ground damage. Solar turns water to steam, powers the turbine, cheap energy.

TM

I read an article on that existing solar concentration plant on the 395 some months ago. The owners wanted to shut it down and sell the land due to it not being efficient compared to the latest technology solar plants and was losing $ to operate. Unsurprisingly, 1 of the state energy boards stepped in and blocked the shutdown and I never saw any updates after that. This ranks right up there with requiring all new constructed home developments over a certain size to have rooftop solar and later finding they produced TOO much power during the day that the grid couldn't handle it and CA had to pay other states to accept the extra load. Then they reversed the law mandating rooftop solar in all new single family home developments and instead prohibited it.

Been going to Curacao since 2012 and they have 20 turbines for some power .each year I also have been atv tours and SxS tours around every one of them and have yet to see skeletal remains of birds. Give birds more credit than they are just dumb and won’t relearn a flight path. Why is trump wanting to  build a wind farm just off of New York?

Seems that Ontario is selling electricity to the eastern side of America

Don think that cutting down hectares of perfectly good forest to build wind farms or solar stands is a good idea.

There is a trend that old decommissioned oil platforms are being considered a good use to instal a wind turbine

Seems the shallow un navigable water anywhere is good for wind farms

Solar/wind technology is improving yearly. The problem is any agency that provides petroleum based fuel to Jo blo public for an expensive production cost can’t recover their costs if no one buys it. That’s the reason wind/solar is being rejected.

Having a narrow mind towards improvements is pathetic.

Just imagine if the auto industry stayed with the 1950 era of cars. Never made improvements with a growing/changing world around them.

Solar and wind technology can improve all it wants. Doesn't change the fact that solar produces zero energy when the sun isn't shining and wind turbines produce zero energy when the wind isn't blowing.

there still has to be reliable baseload generation 24/7/365 to power and balance America's electric grid and daily life needs. You're comparing a small island vs. a large country with +330 million people.

Well you wouldn’t put solar panels in the polar regions

But wind farms can be put any where it’s windy

Those would the first things to consider I’m sure

Doesn't change the fact that solar produces zero energy when the sun isn't shining and wind turbines...

Not in moss landing lol..
