Where were these speculators when the price was under a dollar? I understand that oil is traded worldwide and that there are speculators that never take delivery but they take it in the ass too. The reason that oil companies are making record profits (if they are) is because Trump started a war and the price of oil is up 40%. People quickly forget that oil was selling for less than a dollar 5 years ago. Speculators were not able to shit about that. Gas was under a dollar is some places.

Anybody with wind power or solar also has to have fossil or nuke as a backup. Plus all or most of the costs associated with fossil are already in place. That bill has already been paid.
