Falcon Liked a reply to forum topic Any guess on how much $ Honda America paid out in SX and MX title bonuses to Chase, Jett, and Hunter?
8/29/2023 1:14pm This. Honda has tiers of ownership in each bike that comes across the showroom floor. The dealer makes something like $1200-$1500 on a 450, plus whatever they can get on added markups. They have to buy the bikes from American Honda, which is likely getting something similar. They have to buy those from the factory, you know. And the factory probably makes a smaller profit margin than that on each bike, since the scale is so much larger. The real question is this: who pays the riders' bonuses? Is it Honda Motor Company or American Honda? My guess is that...

7/23/2023 6:27am Is it really that big of a deal? Dont they make cylinders for BMW ,kawasaki ,artic cat and probably some others? If they make a good cylinder it shouldn't be an issue.

11/9/2022 8:36am This thread is a total dumpster fire haha. 1) Its cool to see technological progression. Wiser people would reserve judgement until more is known. Speculating with very little data usually results in looking like an ass. 2) We don't know when battery technology will allow a range that is akin to a dirt bike with 2.5 gallons of fuel. I've...

6/29/2022 5:02am He bleeds insecurity in the way he wants to be accepted by his guests. This, more than the swearing or bro-culture-talk is the big turn off to me. He's got a great opportunity considering who comes through his studio, but a little more homework on who he's interviewing, a little less "I want to be accepted by you" and 15%...

6/29/2022 4:58am I listen to it about like you do. He isn’t terrible. I don’t really cuss in my personal life but it doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is he comes off fake at times with how hard he is trying to be one of the bros.

6/22/2022 8:51am With modern 2 stroke bikes & sticky tires its really not a super hard trail (like it was). My best time is about the same as what this guy did it in. Impressive on the low displacement non e-start bike!

Jeff_Brines Added a reply to Why aren’t cone valves stock?
5/17/2022 5:53am FWIW, I've got a cone valve converted mid valve in my AERs, not super happy with it. A traditional mid valve with lots of float was better for my purposes (trail, off road, hard enduro). I'm sure for the track, with a well setup machine, there are advantages to the cones, but different doesn't always mean better. My understanding of...

4/4/2022 6:19am You aren't wrong, but there is still one massive reason to be skeptical - the math doesn't add up. I'd bet a lot of money the running time is a fraction of what Stark is suggesting, and this won't change anytime soon. ML and company, I really hope you pay attention to this. Ride the bike HARD. Don't be swindled...

3/26/2022 4:39pm Long time lurker who doesn't post much. Before I get into the math, I wanted to point out I have no political bias or nostalgia bias. I own a Tesla and a diesel truck. I own a 2 stroke dirt bike and a 2 stroke turbocharged snowmobile. The common thread among all these vehicles is applying the right technology for...

Broseph Liked a reply to forum topic Geometry - why isn't it a thing in moto?
3/23/2022 5:44pm Because this industry has known how to make awesome dirtbikes for a long time, so specs like head angle and wheelbase don’t change much on new models. The MTB industry still doesn’t know what they're doing, so they fling all sorts of crap against the wall to see what sticks. Hence the wildly varying specs year to year.

Jeff_Brines Added a comment about video 2022 Vital MX Ultimate Two-Stroke Off-Road Shootout
3/23/2022 12:55pm
Fair point ML, but that isn't how you guys framed this one. In reality nobody is shopping for an off road bike and comparing a YZ125X to a 300XC...like...nobody. While I'm sure each test stands for its own merit, the framework here doesn't make a lot of sense (in the "shootout" format...that alone suggests its a comparison of product). Put another way, if you guys did something like this on the track side of things (compared a 125 two stroke all the way to a 450 four stroke) the community here would (rightfully) lose their minds. Keep displacement the same...

3/23/2022 10:42am Long time mtn bike racer here (20+ years, 15 as as a "pro" - in quotes for a reason). Most have covered the answer fairly well but I'll reiterate a few things. 1) Moto has had geometry dialed for a LONG time. In fact, the closer mountain bikes have become to motos when it comes to a number of geo...
Jeff_Brines Added a reply to Stark's (crazy) claims and the reality of off road EVs
3/21/2022 1:05pm Just want to point out "motor efficiency" and "running WOT spinning your tire" are different things. One pertains to how much of the energy is going into kinetic energy (vs thermal) and the other is about actual vehicle efficiency which I am not talking about here (because its equal gas vs electric)

3/21/2022 12:57pm Give me 100 miles of off road range (at A class speeds) either one battery, or a battery set up that can be switched in a minute or less at a pit stop...a price point closer to current ICE bikes...performance (Suspension, handling) equal to/better than current ICE bikes...and a product that isn't from a boutique start up (that will probably go out of business in a few years...ala Alta)...and I'm buying! I love the electric technology, less maintenance, less noise...I'm excited to own one....but I'm not going to pay $15K for 30 minute battery life, (Possibly?) subpar performance and to...

3/21/2022 11:19am Great point. I've got a lot of assumptions in my "model" that are very much debatable, this being one of them. Thanks!
