WR sorry but you information could be incorrect and it will not have the lowered suspension. But hell the bird I heard it from can’t fly either. But go ahead and call me wrong I won’t say I told you so. 😄

Bring back the 380!!
I rode one at Ocotillo Wells one time, talk about going as fast as you want to go holy warp factor 10. I don't know how he had it geared but it was good at making your helmet visor catch air and yank your head back, 6th gear in the meat of the thing was stupid fast Woohoo Laughing

What class is this legal in?

And since I'm asking, what class can you run the 150SX in? The dealer didn't know.

Is this bike a real 300? Not just a 'bored" 250?

He's trying to say that Husky are ditching the lower centre of gravity, shorter suspension travel idea for 2023.

Literally in every adult age group class. Or any class with a greater cc limit then how many cc’s your bike has. Is this seriously a question?

It has the same stroke as the 250 but with a larger bore so yep, it’s a real 300.

I believe this is the newer improved TBI (vs TPI) fuel injection.
It's a tipping point for me; MX model, TBI fuel injection, electric start.
Yes, I could have built up a TPI same from an XC version previously.
I could barely get my CR500 started last weekend at Hangtown on the gate.
Yes, I could put a 20lb electric start kit on it.
They keep crossing my excuses off my list. Yes, I'm going to get one; maybe Husky (Vet) version.

Put CR500 in 2nd gear and with clutch out, rock the bike back and forth while giving the throttle a slight blip. Place bke in neutral then kick start. If problems persist, your clip on your needle needs to be changed to one position leaner. Good luck.

And £500 more than the TM125. It'd still be the TM for me

Real 300?

In as much as it's simply a squared bore and stroke 250.

It's what they have always been.

Though, Beta in the last year moved away from that, with a different ( shorter) stroke on their 300, with a commensurate larger bore than 72mm. I'd say to try to not lose overrev / to gain higher revs by reducing piston speed. A 72mm stroke, makes for a much higher piston speed than the typical 58 through to 64mm 350cc to 450cc 4t.

It took both TM and Beta offering 300cc 2T MXers, for KTM to now bring this SX straight to customers. They've had that (extra) money making model of the 300 kit you'd have to buy for an SX model up until now.

What I'd love to see us a 350 /400 2T. Not just a bigger 250. And I'm not after a full 500 - I want a modern , larger than 300.

300s can't race in MXGP, or US Nationals or SX. But many other Nations series have allowed equivalency. And, the vast majority of 'club' racing allows it. So, it's an 'orphan' bike at the highest levels, but can, mostly be used at most riders levels of racing.

But, while (some) manufactures can satisfy (most) of the market for "big" 2Ts, over bored 2Ts are it. It's a very cheap way to satisfy said market. It Is a heck of a business model for manufactures.

Here in OZ, we pay quite the premium for a 300, over a 250 2T. I wonder what this 300 SX is going to be priced at?

I may read as Very cynical here - don't get me wrong, 300s Are fantastic things, as are 450 4Ts - but, to repeat, a real, Modern 350/400cc 2T (it's all you'd need to effectively go up against 450 4ts) is what I would open my wallet for. Light, Simple ( any 2t is far simpler than a modern 4t, by a huge margin) Under Stressed, Easy To Work On, and Easy To Ride. Moto Heaven, in other words.

We need variety in racing, not the mono culture, through bad capacity rules, we have now. Go chase up the 500GP series DVD / YouTube for the 97 World Championships - You had the big booming 500 4ts, the then new, wailing / screaming YZM400/450F/ 'Whatever The Capacity They Were Experimenting With That Week' Works bikes, the (even by then, old school) growling 500 2ts (though a few of those were de-bored CR500s for 400 / 430? ccs) and the 380 2Ts of Kurt Nichol and Trampas Parker. It was fantastic, varied racing. We need it now, while ICE racing still exists, though, I'm not one that thinks ICE racing will disappear any time soon.

How is a modern 2T (even one with a carburator) much simpler than a 4T. I'm always puzzeled where that myth comes from.
The SX250 engine has about the same number of parts than the 450 engine. And how is doing a top end more complicated on a 4T? Because of the cam chain?
When I took apart the power valve and its mechanical actuator of my 2017 SX125 the first thing that came to my mind was: Damn, that's a lot of moving parts, the valve train of my YZ250f doesn't look half as complicated.

But back to topic: I think it really cool that KTM went for it and produced a SX300! I'm really curious on how it's going to run. Not only because of TBI, but also because of the electric power valve.

This color scheme looks so much better then the 22.5 factory editions. I'm still not 100% on the full orange seat.

Bring back the 380!!
Had one of the those, what a great motor. The chassis however, felt like it had a hinge in the middle down choppy straights Grinning

Well obviously the valve train moves with the engine cycle on a 4 stroke and the power valve moves with RPM on a 2 stroke. Big difference.

If the moving parts on a 4 stroke valve train fail vs a power valve, what happens? Big difference.

But the fair comparison to a 4 stroke's valve train is a 2 strokes reed cage. BIG difference. The complexity difference between the two is no myth.

Legitimate question.
i know they’ll sell every one of these that they import, but who is the customer for this bike? If I’m spending nearly 12 grand on a motocross bike, I expect the bike to make it easier for me to win races. I have a hard time believing that a big bore 2 stroke will make that happen if I’m lining up against 450cc 4 strokes. I race the biggest motocross series in the Midwest (865 entries at the last round), and I can’t tell you the last time I lined up next to a two stroke in the +30 and +40 classes (what I would expect to be the prime demographic for this bike). Is this just a side piece bike for old rich guys?

Thanks for laughs! Made a BIG Difference to my lunch.
I asked why everybody’s saying that a 2T MX engine is simpler than a 4T. Not what happens when something breaks.
Everybody’s just downvoting..

Well..yeah...it probably is gonna be a bike for rich old guys.
But in reality...when it comes to racing vet classes, what difference does the bike even make? Its about what the rider likes and rides the best. Any vet race can be won by a vet racer on a 125, as long as he can keep that 125 running at the bikes maximum potential...
In fact...any race could be won by a rider on a 125 that can ride it to its absolute max potential...Johhny O' Mara gave some heavy hitters a lesson in this in 1986...
It's about the rider....a fast vet on a 300 two stroke is not going to be at any disadvantage against others on 450's...
I would wager that you could put either of the Lawrence brothers on a bone stock new 125, up against a gate full of vet pros on 450's...and they would most likely get the holeshot, if not, be leading by corner 2...its about the rider

I'm not a big fan of batteries but I would rather mess with a battery than adjust/replace valves or a timing chain. I dont know how difficult an electronic power valve would be but I think the advantage will be 219 lbs in with efi and electronic power valve power adjustability on hard pack and poor traction riding.

Yep...they got me, placed my order today....this bike gives me a chubby!
Funny you should mention the varg...my order is in , the money saved and tucked away...that bike will be a game changer for me..absolutely cannot wait!
This 300 sx also floats my boat..my 450 will b up for sale this weekend and my old 125 soon after..
Im typically not one to jump into a radically new bike like this KTM, but the hour glass of time stops for nobody! Im all about living for today these days...so Im all in for this bike. Cant wait for this one also!

I’m not saying that a better rider wouldn’t beat me on an inferior bike. I just don’t understand who wants to spend nearly $12,000 to put themselves at a disadvantage. I thought I might be missing something. I know 300cc two strokes are wildly popular for woods racers, but this is a motocross race bike.

Anyone have any insight as to if these changes will trickle over the Husky for 2023?

Dude,

I like your style and philosophy. Time waits for no one. I too am waiting for a Stark. Oct 9 for me so they say. I'm waiting for the Husky version of this 300 to come out and I will be one of the disappointing customers if they ditch the lowered suspension. I have a 2021 Husky 450 and the lowered suspension makes a huge different to someone of RC's height.

I was incorrect on the pricing. Now I get it.
