Talk about tone deaf… The wealthiest motocross nation on earth with the best paid riders is arguing about whether their riders should go to MXoN unless they get paid, and their riders having to fork out money for the own entourage. Yet every year dozens of nations scrape together the dollars to send three riders who probably have to rent a bike, and if they’re lucky they might bring their own suspension in checked luggage. Get a grip on reality. If you don’t like it stay at home. The rest of us will be there competing anyway.

Dramatically underappreciated early pillar of our sport. I find that one of the hard things about getting old is seeing people who influenced you in some way pass on. I'm in my early 50s and still trying to wrap my head around Super Hunky and Malcolm Smith being gone. JN Roberts was a bit before my time but I'm still bummed to hear this. Godspeed JN.

Ha no bragging rights, I never thought I’d live to see Australia win, yet MXdN has always been my favourite race of the year, even when the US was so dominant, and even if we never win again. It’s just that I never see money/ costs discussed so much as a determining factor, as for team US. Most countries have their financial struggles to attend, but I don’t see riders turning down the opportunity to represent every year because of it. Which seems odd when AMA is the richest moto racing series in the world.

The IOC doesn't pay either, the local Olympic federations (USOPC) give out bounties for people who end up on the podium... In the 1980's, Bulgarian privateer Dimitar Rangelov drove all the way to Hawkestone Park from Bulgaria, and had his van break down on the way. Fixed it, drove non-stop, got the ferry, got to the track only just after signing-on closed and the FIM officials refused to let him ride. The riders all protested on his behalf but they wouldn't budge. Don't know why but that story always stuck in my head. So cruel 😕
