They eliminate crash laps from the average.

No, they don't. This is a screw up, as they counted the lap that Ferrandis crashed on.

When something is demonstrably false, like saying that someone who finished behind the leader had a faster average lap time, it should be an alert that something isn't right.
Maybe.

But as I said those times appear to be with crash laps removed- they may do it in a more sophisticated statisticians way- that I do not know- as well.

Agree that it is a bit of an off way to do the calculation but it is AMA's method and a consistent comparison tool.

Compare the #83 average times to #3, #94. Point is the lad is very quick.

I don’t think there’s any other answer to this question except Stewart is there? Not on the AMA side anyway. Carmichael only did one race at 16. Same with Villopoto. Most top guys seem to turn pro full time at 17. Just the way the calendar falls. Stewart turned 16 two months before A1 and won his 2nd race.
Bradshaw won against RJ In 1988 as a 16yr old..

But is he the most promising rookie this year ? So far yes and it is awesome to watch ! I love his style, it reminds me of Windham when he entered the pro class in 98 (and there is a bit of Pourcel too). Nice aerial style, feet on the pegs, light on the bike, smooth. He made it look easy for a good 10 minutes, almost like the previous week behind Forkner where he was also looking awesome but made more little mistakes. So i think he improved over 7 days! With all the great people in his corner (training partners, Dungey, Jonnhy O', etc etc), I am sure they will help him to get championships !

Those averages are obviously suspect, as Ferrandis’s “crash lap” is counted.

When things don’t add up, you should acknowledge it rather than to blindly parrot it.

Lechien was a badass at age 16.

He's definitely got to at least have a blank page reserved now in the book of greats to start chalking up results.

No because he's always crashing.

Ron Lechien won the Orlando SX at age 16! Michael Pichon won his 3rd SX in the States!

Lol. As I said, maybe. Work out the average with Ferrandis' crash lap out and Lawrence is still a lot faster.
And while we are at it, Jett easily accounted for DF in their heat.
BTW was not my mistake averaging those times.

Marty Tripes, and Joel Robert arguably more so.

The answer is definitely no. As others here pointed out, Stewart’s rookie season eclipses Lawrence’s fast laps last weekend that were punctuated by a pair of crashes that took him out of contention for the title.

Adam was 17 when he won his first Supercross. The question was whether or not Jett is the best ever at his age (16).

It's not too early because it's already too late. He's not. James Stewart was the baddest 16 year old.

To quote Allen Iverson when he talks about Kobe:

"whu what, you forgot? i really think they forgot."

Not the best ever at his age. Kid is really damn great, though.

Only a couple guys every 10 years are this good (KW, RC, JS,CR, AC). It’s so so hard to come into this class and run up front.

The only 3 riders with a faster lap at A2 we're on 450's #3,#4,#94.

Which is fucking awesome, but the other part of the judgement is that the kid was dropping anchor in all 3 races. Seems like he has about 8-10 good mins right now, then things go sideways. But it is clear the skill there is huge.

Rex Easley just took his shirt off. Sorry, too soon? Up the Queenslanders. Love u Sepo’s too. I’m just a dumb broke has been, never was but since A2 I’ve been rounding up the chooks and giving them curry. Up the cane toads! Tear em up like a cooked chook Jett.

Also need to factor in that the track was significantly worse for the 450 main. I'm on the Jett bandwagon, but it needs to pump the brakes a bit. How quickly he is improving is astonishing, but Stewart showed up to the scene (almost) ready to dominate.

Didn't KW do High-Point as number 787 or something on a KX125 in 1994?

I do have to say Jett reminded me of a young Damon Bradshaw with the willingness to just twist the throttle, I loved the front end high over the dragon back, He seems like a breath of fresh air with his personality and riding style.

Howz about we just enjoy the kid as he matures and not put this kind of pressure on him? There is a long list of phenom teenagers that would be above him imho.
