Makes sense to me.
Another example. Say that Dungey racks off 10 wins and goes into the past race of the Chase with a decent points lead, but the title is not wrapped up because of the new format. Dungey goes down in the first turn of the last race. Instead of the Dung cruising around and wrapping up the title by merely finishing he has to ride his ass off to get to the front. It will bring something to the later rounds that has been lacking for years. That is a competitive finish to the Championship. Get used to change as it happens...right now this sport is floundering
All successful sports evolve or the die out. Even the big dog, the NFL is constantly trying to improve their product. MLB has started to figure that out after almost losing all the younger fans by sticking to old worn out traditions.
I just want to see the fastest guys battling it out at the end of the year. So what if we eliminate some riders from the chase.
Every sport does that at the end of the year. Whether it's a play off or a chase. The best move on and rest stay behind.
When I watch the races, I want to see good racing on a nightly basis. The championship, while cool for the winner, comes secondary to close competitive racing.
If you add points for heat and semi wins, you're going to be rewarding the same guys that come top 5 in the mains already. I don't think giving 2 or 3 points for a heat win will close Roczen up by 23 points.
I'd rather see less emphasis put on wins and top 5's. Go to 23 points for a win, drop two points from 1st to 2nd, then a point for every position. That cuts about 10 points off Dungeys lead, maybe more.
Edit:
The other thing I'd like to see is more variety in dirt and track construction (in both series for that matter). Hard pack is good, sand is good, loam is good, soft &rutty is good. Get a variety of conditions to test the guys.

Suppose a rider gets injured on the day after a race, that rider could miss 3 races giving him 4 weeks off of actual healing time. Most broken bones take about 4 weeks to heal. He could then come back and still be in the championship hunt because he knows everyone else must also drop 3 of their races points.
It would be great for the fans also because a lot more of the riders will still be in the points hunt for the championship, and most likely will race harder knowing so.
If a rider win all 17 races, then great, he will still win the championship if only 14 of those 17 races points are scored. To many riders get injured early in the season and their season is shot.
I'm not gonna say it's my favourite idea, but something needs to change in SX. It's pretty fucking stale.
It's just that some of these guys jus' act like a little whimsy whiny...well...you know?
Seriously, while I meant what I said, I am sorry if I offend.

It's honestly great if you do. I just can't.
I'm good with change even would encourage it in supercross. But this change seems arbitrary and simply change for the sake of change. As shown earlier in this thread this wouldn't have changed the last 10 or something title holders only 2-5 finishing. I mean this year Dungey and roczen as of right now are the only two in it baring injury. So we reset the points after round 10 and the top 10 now have a chance, again baring injury Dungey and Roczen are the only ones with a chance, and Dungey has the advantage just like now cause A)he's faster
Pit Row
For sure there's no perfect solution, but when guys are hurt early they are essentially out of it. An extreme example of what happens played out when they had the 250 and 500 national seasons only six rounds a piece. The consequences of someone having a bad moto was to make the championships over really early, and that just changes things in terms of how the rest of the guys go to the line.
No doubt there is a trade off with leaving a total season points championship. It's different for sure. But it still is a championship that has to be won, and more guys with a chance to make it happen. It's worth a shot to see what sort of racing that produces throughout the entire season.
Personally, I like to see them go to two 10 lap 450 mains to throw more points up in the air, but that doesn't address the issue with losing riders to injury early.
They should be concentrating on how to get more value for the consumer of each race. Let's start with longer main events.
I'm just happy for the sake of change, and will be happy to see if anything changes for riders to have to race their way into the chase. We can always go back if it's a disaster.
I was thinking reading this, what if we split the SX season in two and have two lesser important titles (first half champ and second half champ) but also have a grand champion who has the most points out of the two.. The advantage being riders can choose to only run one or the other (cheaper for some teams)
I'm not sure any of this would work haha and on a year like this maybe Dungey would win all three and make mockery of the whole situation haha I dunno shut up
