Do amateurs/vets/normal riders want to ride a SX track?

I know arenacross is popular in europe and the rest of the world, havent seen anything in person in the states but ive heard of a few places in the NE that are indoors but the tracks look pretty tame and are on like 1acre vs 2-4 like ama SX.

I can speculate on why theres no real SX tracks for the public, mainly it being more dangerous/less forgiving since theres really no timing/rhythm sections in mx and dramatically increased risk of getting landed on by someone in SX.

Besides that, do regular moto guys want to ride an SX track? id guess the typical 450 C rider does not, but maybe some of the faster/younger guys would? Or maybe not a modern SX track layout but something less intense like the layouts from the late 80s/early 90s would be appealing?

I do not. I don’t even want most motocross tracks to be as jumpy and peaky as they are. The sx influence on American amateur tracks is disgusting.

Every time I see a GoPro from a euro/uk/ireland/canadian track they look beautiful. Turns linked by , can you even imagine it, other turns! Gives you the ability to set turns up and actually ride on the ground.

Most of us have no business with some of the obstacles alone on the track, now add in questionable track prep, on a crowded track with riders of questionable fitness, decision making, skills, even questionable sobriety along side you, and sx obstacles and influence truly have no place on amateur Mx tracks.

The Berms it’s called because of the big bowl berms I think . Has a lot of big gap doubles Very popular ride spot.  They hv ride instructors there, it’s just west of gb. I chose to ride the sx track at Dyracuse because I didn’t hv sand tires on.  It’s had some  clay near the parking lot no triples tho. Cedar Lake indoor in Wi. Near Mn. Is supposed to be a blast . A rider on hear drove from In. Or Oh. To ride there , he raved about how fun it was .  Fair races are big in the Midwest .grandstands full .

Battle of Wi. Fri practice sat was a sx under the lights then in day light . Changing it up to see what riders like .  Since smx is big the sat race is smx hybred track . Sunday is on mx track combine points to get all kinds of cool prizes .  It draws out of state riders .  We don’t hv a weekly Fri night track anymore 1 track up north has racing under the lights tho.  Lake Geneva was Huge yrs later Chilton Fri night track had a good turnout too .  A converted barn had a bar , fish fry , etc good crowd.  I rode it on weekends it was fun   . It’s all ralley type racing small cars now .

Just thinking about seat jumping out of corners hurts my core.

I've ridden one a few times and it was a lot of fun, I wish there were more options open to the public to learn that type of riding.  I wasn't any good at it, but what can you expect when it's something completely new?  If some local tracks built maybe a more tame SX style setup with some fun rythm sections and large berms it would probably be pretty popular, people just need to exercise some constraint and ride within their skill level.

The SX Futures races they did pre-Covid were some of the most fun races I've done to this day, I wish they would bring those back.

Todays tracks are easy vet tracks . The 90,s had steep ramps my favorite. Double triple with whoops

I did, until I did ride one, and then I was good with never riding one again, as it was not fun and I almost died several times. Arenacross tracks on the other hand are a blast!

Got a chance to ride a replica years ago and I loved it. We used to have Mototown in CT and although it wasn’t fully blown SX, it was still a big indoor facility with decent sized jumps, rhythms, and whoops. The scene up here has never been the same without it. Yes I wish there was some more amateur SX style tracks that have practices and races for sure

Whatever you think of him, Catanzaro was planning Beginner/Intermediate/Expert SX tracks.

The thought of a beginner supercross was very interesting to me.

When Star West had whoops, it was great!  They weren't very big, but I was able to blitz them, right away.  It was really fun.

Fox Raceway has a small Supercross track that the Pros practice on.  There's no way I'm jumping those jumps!  There's no room for error.

But, stringing together some tables, doubles and back to back bowl turns would be a lot of fun.

If a track created beginner and intermediate SX tracks, along with instruction, I'd be interested.

A mild whoop section is a must!

I would have a few decades ago; a tamed-down version would be great! I rode the SX track at Castillo Ranch when I was in my 30s, and even though I am and was a talented rider, I had a hard time. I don't think the general public has any business on a true-to-life SX track.

I'd ride a safe, mellow SX track even today, but age is creeping up on me. It would have to be smaller jumps, fewer whoops, and less overall of everything that makes Supercross great, unfortunately.

Closest I have done is the stadium tracks you find at the fairs. That was enough for me. Not a lot of room for error.

We have an "SX style" track as one of our tracks at Winchester where I announce, not technically as burly as a pro track, more tame.

We run about 6-8 events a year on that track as well as some practices, it's pretty popular. Everything from PW 50 to 450 class racers

Some of our racing families don't care for it so they stick to the Motocross side but some of them love the SX side.

When my kid was racing he liked the SX track because he was more of a technical rider than a wide open speed guy.

Would I like to ride one? Yes

Do I have any business riding one? Right now, absolutely not.

If I rode one, would I ever want to ride one ever again? Probably not.

I have ridden some tamed down AX and SX style tracks and I really liked figuring out the rhythms and the whoops. But nothing says I would enjoy any of that on a real, maybe slightly tamed down SX track.

Do most want to ride an SX track? Sure. Should they is a completely different story. Milestone MX had an Amateur SX track years ago here in SoCal, it was quite popular and a great stepping stone for younger racers. Less busy than real SX, it had smaller and safer transitions (much like your 80's/90's comment), with landings filled in/more plateaued. Even Sunrise/Racetown 395 had a track near the entrance that was of similar design.

The biggest misconception with amateur AX or SX tracks is bike setup, as most of us weekend warriors don't realize just how stiff suspension needs to be in order to stay safe...

I would. But I don’t want to die so I’ll stick to the MX stuff.

I remember the Star West whoops! Super fun, and small enough to make you feel like a rockstar without killing you if you blew it.

Did a couple Arenacross races back in the day, and while scary it was fun! I would definitely ride an amateur Arenacross track if there was one around... I should just build one on my property!

There was a time in my younger days that I thought I might be good enough to ride a pro SX track (raced AX a couple times). After being at Indy this year and getting close to the track, I could now say I would have died on a pro SX track. The jumps are so steep, the transitions are so tight, and the ruts are insane. Pro SX guys are on another planet from us.

0.0% chance I would ride a real SX track. No interest driven heavily by an understanding of the limits of my skills.

A small very tamed down version might be kind of fun. Honestly, I'd much prefer a true natural terrain MX track that is not over prepped (does that even exist anymore?).

Everyone interested in MX/SX should walk a pro SX track just once.  I'm guessing 90+% would say no to riding one afterwards.  The angle of the jump ramps, small landing zones, and blind nature of many of the obstacles make these tracks impossible to do well/safely for all but the elite of the elite.  It really makes you appreciate the talent/skills/courage of the pro SX riders.

Route 62 in Ohio has a tamed down sx track. Its outdoors, they also have a rather large indoor track.

Plus a full moto track, c track, and a peewee track.

Just posted a couple hrs ago. I didn't go last year, but I don't think the series had full blown SX tracks.

I personally wouldn't ride a sx track. They're scary just walking them.

TNT had a small one that was fun because the jumps were not huge.  Couldn't imagine doing much more than that.  I would pass.

No, none of us are qualified to ride one unless you are an Amateur A or good B class rider. We built our home track to be kinda an 'SX lite' track and the bowl turns, steeper faces/landing, and whoops are a blast. BUT, we didn't build gap doubles/triples or things with big consequences. It's still jumpy and technical but with reduced risk for the average guy. I've had plenty of "normal" riders come out there and struggle massively with the timing and commitment needed to really go fast (53 sec lap time record). When you do get it figured out you feel like a hero cause it looks good done right. Even at my best there, if I went to a real AX or SX track immediately I would probably wad in the first lap. Whole different ballgame.....

Sx jumps and whoops are just giant singles for me.

I think the majority of us here are somewhat experienced riders, either past or current and the answers saying no are very realistic.  Anybody that says yes to riding/jumping,  not rolling, a SX track has likely not been up close to see how gnarly the jumps and whoops are.  Hell on podcasts even the pro guys are shocked and intimidated when they get to a real SX track the first time.

I rode the Glen Helen arena SX lite track for weeknight practice around 88-91 or so. On KX500s. It was really good practice for developing throttle control and accuracy. I didn’t jump the bigger jumps, just doubled through the rhythm sections as much as my skill/courage would allow. There was nothing fun about it, a little bit too much throttle was insta-whiskey.. it definitely helped my riding but it felt kinda like running through the lions cage with porterhouse underwear.. something bad is gonna happen soon..

No desire to ride anything like SX tracks anymore.

Ride one? I wouldn't even sniff one. Too many people are dying and getting catastrophically injured on supercross-esque "regular" tracks already. The corrosive, destructive effect jump-tastic, big-money, guaranteed-fame, become-the-next-McGrath supercross events have had on our sport is something we all know about, we just don't like to talk about it. Sadly, those of us who are older now and have multiple surgical scars have ZERO influence, as the youth in our sport have no use for our hard-earned wisdoms. With little kids on 65s now hucking it over 100-foot-triples, who in his right mind can't see we've lost our way? - and supercross is what did it. They're not called "air-bikes," my friends, they're called "dirt-bikes." We must be the only sport left on the planet that's getting progressively MORE dangerous. But whatever - I know, I know - no one gives a shit what I think.

YES!!!

I'm not much of a outdoors guy if im honest. I can get around great and not many jumps I'm not gonna hit but I have a few issues. One being focus long tracks I kinda space out. Unless its a race or doing drills I can absolutely regularly be a ABC 123 oh squirrel while riding and when the tracks rough it can hurt or be expensive.

My other issue is sometimes I'm just not in the mood to bomb down a whooped out downhill or bomb through a whooped out straight into a trashed face hoping the other 20-40 idiots on practice days didnt fuck up the 3 good ruts that I have to take off of into a landing filled with ruts. Don't get me wrong I love a nice outdoor track. I love monster mountain in the mornings.

Give me a nice packed SX track once you get the track down its just rhythm, getting into the flow of the track. Its all fast pace, reaction, less thinking even when racing it. Even the steep ass landings which really aren't landings but distance markers dont bother me much. I do feel like poor landings cause just as many issues as shitt  take offs. I do think they need to taper out the landings mare and give them a little more space in pro sx. If red bud or glen helen built a A1 replica track that was tamed down 20%. Little less steep take off and landings which would also take some of the physical slaming into jump faces out, an extra 5 ft for the step on part of the so the step offs not so quick,  I'd honestly barley ever ride the outdoor tracks.

Whoops and rollers are one of my favorite obstacles dont know why but always took to them like a fish to water. I remember being at club for few weeks and Graves was making fun of me. "If a track was just whoops and rollers we'd give you a ride! Everything else is crap but you know how to give it the beans for sure in the whoops."

I miss riding the sx tack at moto land in AZ and wish they would bring back the SX futures.
