As much as I’m a fan of Tomac, this race felt like a passing of the torch. As it happens in most sports, this one felt like a McGrath / Carmichael type of deal, that #18 is just too DAMN FAST. Throw in the towel, and let the river flow.
Sounds sad, but it is part of evolution. You can’t be #1 forever.
If any race proved that it was last week at Red Bud.
IMO a switch was flipped. He already knows he is riding for a different team in a few months, I would venture to say there is ‘discomfort’ where he is; killing motivation to take it to Jett pace and risk a single thing. He is just riding at this point. If he ends up on the MXoN team, I would bet we see the switch flipped back on.
Beast is broken? Cmon
I think he’s probably just riding out the nationals to get to SMX and then into his new KTM deal. He knows he’s not winning this title. I’m sure we’ll see him ripping come round one of SMX.

I thought he was coming back when they showed him getting mentally prepped before the start of moto 2. He was envisioning the start and releasing the clutch. Then moto 2 happened and I just felt like I saw an overpriced firework dud out. Maybe, hopefully, there is something else that we don’t know and he will be strong again soon.
Take all this with a grain of salt. I’m also the guy who texted his buddies that JMart was rolling over before the start of moto 2 because he seemed too complacent with his moto 1 results. That didn’t age well in the group chat.
If he thought he was fast enough to win he would be up front going for the win. These guys are competitors. They don't just ride around around getting their asses kicked if they had the ability not to. Especially a legend like Tomac.
If the 'beast' is broken, wtf is the 4 x mxgp champion?
Side note*
The moto Jett placed second this year,he acknowledged he didn't have it for Tomac that day.
Eli is infact still very much a beast.
He just went easy on the Yamaha so it would make it through the moto. Kidding - sort of 😆
On a positive note though if Jett, Hunter, Chase, RJ, Prado, Guillod, Barcia and Stewart weren't there he would have won moto 2.
Do you think Eli may be regretting signing for 27, he seams over it.
He signed for two years I believe
I don't reckon he'll even do 26 MX let alone 27. Probably just try 26 SX.
Sorry i had my years mixed up, i mean 2026 mx.
I do agree with you.
5 places ahead of Eli the second moto 🤷♂️
Pfft..and the other 12 motos? 🤷🏼♂️
was it really necessary to start a brand-new thread on this when we just covered the same territory with 3 pages and 64 replies on the Eli poll yesterday?
Beat him last weekend in the second moto as well:
Pit Row
current results would say Yes
ET3 has had a good career but IMO there is more to this behind the curtains. By the amount he has dropped My guess is he crashed hard during the week and is banged up.
Mentally The crack started at round 1 when ET at 100% couldn’t catch or beat the not yet physicality 100% Jett.
I think 7th is a Very good finish yet at a national.
Ooo now the experts have spoken 🧐. So why dog him out? What’s the benefit? No one wants to talk about it, but he’s 32 vs 21yo.
I find it really weird he definitely seems to be coasting to the end I think just to stay healthy for the ktm deal. No way in hell a guy battling is heart out last year is that far off I think hes on cruise control
.
Something is off…injury? He doesn’t lose that much speed in the past few weeks without some other factor…
Yeah, he didnt. You think thats the same Jett we're seeing now? Both Lawrence's are peaking after being out injured. When Jett is outside the top 10 he saws through the pack easy. I'm not saying Eli is done by any means. He's got nothing for Jett though
Tomac’s not broken. Is it a changing of the guard? Yes.
Jett’s the fastest right now. So what? He’s like 21 maybe? Very gifted and talented. Great for him, but it doesn’t diminish Tomac.
He looked good for a few laps speedwise, but didn't look in control IMO. Something told him to back it off. Was thinking the old arm pump deal but that doesn't explain moto 2. He passed Mookie and made a mistake and decided to just ride around after that.
But he has been off the pace in practice since the break. He came back slower or the Hunter Bros came back faster. At Southwick, I think he was 2 seconds a lap slower in qualifying than Jett. Eli seems to usually finish the race about where he qualified at. You can tell the motivation is gone.
Not at all. Says a lot of the level of rider he is that we expect him to be one of the fastest men on the planet at almost 33yrs old
I don't know if his slam berms and manhandle the bike works today against the flowing riding style now evolving. If you start tweaking on the bike thinking that will help, I think they just start getting too fat off base.
18, 96, Sexton have the flowy riding style.
That's my point.
Jett's unreal..we all know that..I agree with this whole post ...simply pointing out that it speaks for itself when dudes acknowledging that 3 is still hard work.
