Getting caught up on the racing and just watched the first 450 heat. Jett goes down in the first corner, and then they covered his entire race via split screen or the main broadcast. The drone followed him and nobody else. At one point they briefly showed Cianciarulo and Masterpol in what may have been a battle for ~5th, but we never really got see. They cut back to Tomac for the last two lanes, and then as soon as he took the checkers, they switched back to Jett.
It begs the question: has Mirtl or someone structured things so that they cover Jett regardless of where he is in a race? It certainly helps his “brand,” so there is incentive to do so. Or is the production team simply chock full of nut swingers?
You haven't been paying attention, Jett Lawrence's results on the 450 so far have been the best of any rider in history, the broadcasters recognize this.
He achieved a perfect season in last year's 450 motocross championship, something only done previously by James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael, but never by a rookie.
15 Races into his first 450 Supercross season, his results are better than legends of the sport...

I think they’ve always covered the points leader like that to be honest , not saying it’s correct but AC and masterpool battling for 5th in a heat is quite irrelevant in comparison to the points leading coming through the pack 👍
Stupid question!
He’s the series points leader. At this point of the year only him & 2nd in points are going to get the most focus.

OP you’re a couple of months late to the party.
We’re way past the stage when everyone was complaining about the focus on Jett. Most have had to swallow their pride and accept that the hype and attention are warranted.
It’s going to be a long difficult time for anyone who can’t accept the reality and appreciate it for what it is.
What he is getting at is that it was a split screen and both were of Jett. That is over the top fanboy ism of the guys pressing buttons in the production truck.
Honest Q: When is this in the Dumbgeon?
I get following Jett when it's warranted, he's arguably the guy who will win or lose this championship... Even as a Sexton, Webb, Tomac fan I think that's fair to say.
But the split screen overuse, for anyone, is massively annoying.
Seems the nut swingers found their way in here, too. This isn’t an anti-Jett post. And it’s not that I haven’t been paying attention; quite the opposite, I’ve been watching this sport for 20ish years and don’t recall the coverage ever being this biased towards any rider, regardless of where they were at in the point hunt. That statement holds true even as compared to earlier in this season. I didn’t think it was possible to get any worse. Would they have followed Webb like that in a heat race as the only other guy really in cship contention? I don’t think anyone can honestly say yes.
Maybe my old man memory is failing, but as I recall things from the not-so-distant past, the coverage was largely focused on battles around the track (you know: racing) with periodic cuts to important riders in the championship like, like Jett, to update us on their progress. To ignore a field of 20 riders to just follow (and have the folks in the booth talk) about one is what seems really odd…and shitty.
They like to throw in a “points as they run” update, creating nonsense drama as the points will most definitely change by the end of the race.
I don't mind that, because it makes it easy to do the math yourself as they make passes/get passed. Rider A is 5 points behind rider B before the race, I don't want to pull out the points spread when one goes down and is in 15th when the other is in 3rd. Give me the points as they run and I can figure it out as they come through the pack.
I usually can’t stand the camera always on Jett, but this time it was warranted, I watched it the majority of the time, at least it was split screen..
It was the best action. He came so close to a disaster a few times pushing through those riders. I do believe there is room for improvement on the broadcast. A lot of room.
The butt hurt is strong in this post. Watching Jett go from last to 4th in a heat race while still having half the screen on other racers was fantastic. Didn’t Justin cooper fall in his heat race and had to ride the lcq? The cameras are going to show use winners moving forward in the heats.
Surprised Will hasn't ask what TP he uses.
I generally want to see the top guys in the race and after. I’m not as interested in what’s going on behind them, unless it’s one of them. they are the story. I want to see Jett or Webb or Tomac or Sexton interviewed along with the first - third winners even if they got 4th. if the other riders want to be in the limelight they need to start making waves. why this bothers people doesn’t compute for me, but I’m sorry you’re not enjoying the program.
Your memory is definitely failing you. People have been complaining every week for the last few years about the camera following a single rider while the crowd is going crazy and we don't know why.
Jett's heat race was the most exciting thing of the whole broadcast. I'm glad they showed it. Who GAF about a Adam/Masterpool battle when the championship leader crashed in the first turn and comes from 20th to 4 in a 6min race? Are you serious, bro?
Pit Row
Thank you DV. Well said.
I don’t mind an update. Acting like it matters on Lap 2 of the second race at a triple crown is where it seems out of place.
I don't open any of the endless idiotic "Jett" threads anymore....but the title of this one drew me in because it's a valid observation. Did anyone else notice Mirtl down on the track frothing from the mouth over Jett winning last week? You could almost make out the jizz stain in his pants. That tells you the answer to your question.
It's not just recently, it's been this way all year. Over-saturation of never before seen levels in this sport. It isn't going to get any better.
I see the Jett leg-humpers have made their way in here....you had to expect that. Anything less than fawning means you're a Jett hater.
I have to agree with dv’s take. If Mirtl was paying for coverage I guess he forgot to pay for coverage in the main. That is the least coverage I have seen a leader get in a while. There was good reason though the 2-5 battles were a lot more interesting than watching Jett click off laps by himself.
I don’t mind if they follow jet but I can not stand the split screen. For a little bit it’s fine but that was way too long for me. I have a 65” tv and it’s hard to see I think. I never really have any complaints about the broadcast but I was actually yelling at tv last night.
I watch motogp (pay to stream) and it looks 4K and supercross to me looks 720 sometimes and with 54 yr eyes looks like crap when split.
Agreed, between the drones decent angle but terrible quality and the constant split screen or interviews, it's the same old shit.
I never understand why the racing "isn't enough" and they have to absolutely cram the broadcast with relentless yammering and fluff and filler pieces.
Are you OK?
Who wants to see a heat race battle for 5th between two guys who are irrelevant for the championship?
How does your theory match up with the coverage in the main? Majority of the screen time there was on Webb and the battles around him for the same reason as the heat race - he’s the only other guy with a shot at the title and his finish position directly impacted the points situation.
James who?
J.L.E
He had a rough last night…
You’re just angry that your boy got spanked, again. Then they interviewed him and there were actual tears.
