Seen this on the book and figured I’d share to see y’alls opinions.

“ 2021 Orlando supercross was a complete replica track from the 2007 Orlando supercross track.
Track was to the same blueprints size jumps, corners, whoops, everything the same. Now below you will see the fastest lap times from each individual rider during the 2021 Orlando 450 main event. And Below that you will see the fastest lap time from each individual rider during the 2007 Orlando 450 main event. Very interesting to me seeing the difference
2021 Orlando supercross
Now Cooper Webb fastest lap during last night's main event was 49.9760
Ken Roczen 0:50.194
Zach Osborne 0:50.170
Justin Barcia 0:50.022
Eli Tomac 0:50.242
Aaron plessinger 0:50.603
Marvin Musquin 0:50.330
Jason Anderson 0:50.276
Malcolm Stewart 0:50.475
Adam Cianciarulo 0:50.705
2007 Orlando supercross“

The real difference is the drop off in lap pace within the top 10.
2021: less than 1 sec between 1st and 10th
2008: over 3 sec

Ricky said during the board cast he remembers some of the jumps having different steepness to the faces

It's ridiculously hard to meaningfully compare laptimes with dirt tracks. That's where there are no official lap records in motocross.

Biggest difference I saw between 07 and 21 was Ricky was an extra foot taller. Almost looked like he was standing on something.

It was not an exact replica so lap times are pointless. Whoops were way different and there was no wall jump before crossing the start straight in 07

Well there actually was a wall jump before crossing the start in 07 and to be fair the whoops are about as close as they could be. They broke down more than 07 but that is expected with biblical amounts of rain. It very much was an almost exact replica. For the most part the rhythm sections were being done almost the same way everywhere as they were in 07.

My b thought on rdl they said the wall jump wasn’t in the original

What if RC, Stew, and CR22 teleported to the 21’race on they’re 07’ bikes. Could they still be front runners, or would they’re old 450’s put them at too much disadvantage?

The wall was definitely in the original. I rewatched it before the race to remind myself of the track... But as far as comparing times decades apart on different tracks (even if the layout is similar) with different dirt under different conditions, that's just silly.

You’re not mistaken, they did say that on RDL. Sucks when the people that should know broadcast something wrong.

LOL. In roadracing where tracks are pavement and literally do not change (radius of corners, etc) we find it hard to compare laptimes to laptimes over the generations due to things like pavement degradation, amount of rubber laid down, did it rain recently and wash grip away, tire compound changes, etc.

And here we are trying to compare a SX track, with dirt, and constantly changing track elements. That's a bit hilarious.

You race the track in front of you that day, with the competition lined up with you, and that's that. The rest is just good bench racing beer drinking fodder. RC posted about it on social media because he is the ultimate troll. Anyone who's familiar with Ricky knows he sends uh... very colorful text messages around, all day, everyday, to get a rise out of people. Of course he's going to take the piss out of the current riders about it.

You can see they were hauling and above the field in 07. They were attacking the track and pushing the limits like Tomac or RV on beast mode. So I think if we teleported them they would still be competitive in today's field, although it is difficult to compare, in 07 it was dry and slick, not putting all the power to the ground, while in 21 it was soft and so eating a bit of power. Also, we have not seen a rider changing as much the riding style as JS7 since then.

One track had ruts, the other didn’t. The old track had a jump in the place where the new one had a wall. The biggest difference I was told was how much worse the woops where chewed up this time around.

In all seriousness, if you dumped RC and Stewy in this pack in their prime, they’d be running up front easy.

Imagine if Hannah had ridden this track in 1983? Then we could say he was even faster on a 250 2-stroke than RC and James in 2007 and Roczen and Webb in 2021.

I don't think they have actual blueprints. Without those it's not possible to have an exact replica track, so any comparisons are hypothetical.

I'd like to see how much faster the 250 class was vs 2007. The track was give or take ~1 second slower than 2007, so how much faster are our current lites guys than they were back then?

I firmly believe that Kenny and Webb would have raced tire to tire with RC back then.

Only on Vital would you find someone who thinks you can compare apples to apples to a track from 2007

Still a good amount of hate in here, but id take more of these topics than the shit show racing incident ones. cool thread!

makes you really wonder what would happen taking all the greats within their prime and lining them all up....what would happen.

The track map may have been virtually the same, but it wasn’t the same track. Comparing lap times is pointless

Yes it’s pointless to compare. But if nothing else it does show that the times are in the ballpark, and yes Stew, RC and Reedy would be up there if not dominating.

No you can’t compare exact times, but yes it does tell you how badasss Stew Reedy & RC were.

Someone here probably has the ability to do that. It would be cool to see. A lap from each race put together on a split screen to see for a comparison.

Orlando '21 Mains - ~8 more minutes / 9 more laps total. Would have been cool to see Stew and RC battle it out for 5 more laps.

450 Main Race Times / Laps
'07 - 16:35 - 20 laps
'21 - 21:12 - 25 laps

250 Main Race Times / Laps
'07 - 13:09 - 15 laps
'21 - 16:04 - 19 laps

They could triple, triple the rhythm section before the turn to the flagging area in 07.
This was not being done last week.
Plus it looked like a smooth transition after that section to the finish line jump. Last week there was an added hump/kicker/jump before getting on the ramp of the finish line jump.

Tim Ferry says RC and Stew would “be lucky to get 15th” if they were transported in time and raced this past weekend in their prime. 😂

The guys on track today should be super stoked they don't have to race rc or bubba.... none of them have the raw desire or talent ....
