Is it at all possible that the people on here that don't respect what Jody has done for Moto are just clueless asshats that are Johnny come lately's to the Moto scene??? Also, I need to ask you a question--- the way you worded your observation leads me to believe that you must know him personally. How long have you known him?
The point is, even if you don't like a guy "personally" for whatever reason, that doesn't mean you can't respect what he has meant to this sport for the past 40+ years.
I don't think that's the case. It's the same thing with cocky athletes or celebs who brag about themselves, no matter what they accomplish they will always be hated on and never given full credit for what they achieve. I don't know Jody personally but used to read MXA for years and actually liked Jody, but then his self-aggrandizing attitude became tiresome. I'm by no means saying he doesn't deserve the award, just explaining why he gets shit on around here.

I'm happy for the guy, Jody paved the way for all of us in some form. He's a tough ole sob (respectfully).

I knew jody in the 70's when i was racing. Aside from reading his articles then, my girlfriend owned AMC and jody would frequently come out there to race and she would let him race for free. Nice guy, a little "different", knew nearly everybody and knows a lot of things about some that they might not want him to tell anyone about, lol. Good for him, he has dedicated most of his life to this and he certainly wasn't getting a million dollars a year to do it.

This website (along with racerx, transworld, pulp, etc) would not even exist if not for Jody Wiesel's 40yrs of work helping to grow this sport. Motocross Action magazine is the reason many of us fell in love with this sport and past it on to the current generation of riders. Do you really think anyone will ever look back and say......a thread on vitalmx is the reason I started riding lol?

Give credit where credit is due folks. If you don't understand take the time to research.

MXA changed my entire life and the lives of my children. Jody Wiesel deserves more accolades than any rider for his contributions.

And......he still rides and races. That is cred in my book.

Well said and strikley true. MXA truly has changed my life and continues to do so every month. Not a ride day goes by where the knowledge I've gained isn't applied in some fashion, whether setting up my own bike or sharing what I've learned with my buddies. My love for Moto has been greatly influenced by Jody and MXA.

I met Jody a few years ago at a July 4th REM race. He was not feeling well dealing with a cold, and nonetheless he invited me to spend the afternoon with him, Tom White, and the rest of the wrecking crew. They we're all truly welcoming people who have an undeniable genuineness, something sorely lacking by many who reside in the Golden State.

Thank you Jody for everything you've done for the Moto community and never compromising your values.

Congrats to Jody for well deserved recognition and he never sought this kind of thing. MXA is still the go to mag for honest bike tests, bottom line. The guy knows more about bikes and this sport more than almost anyone, period.

I've been reading Jody on and off for a few decades and I'm a fan. I liked the old humorous Jody more, but he seemed to have returned to that more lately. A very unique and intelligent figures in the world of motocross, for sure. , I can't imagine the world of motocross without him and he makes himself likeable even with his occasional curmudgeonly attitude.

I think it's strange (borderline pathetic) that you think these websites should worship Jody in such a way.

MXA isn't fit for toilet paper. Can't stand the attitude & nonsense they spout....although I've not read it in about 5 years, i hear it hasn't changed.

LOL, but it’s OK to hang off every word from online anonymous screen names who we know nothing about.

Plus, he did it during the time where you could race just about every day of the week.

I believe Jody deserves credit for the "Inside Motocross #5" page at the back of every RacerX Illustrated issue.

If it weren't for Jody, I don't think RacerX would feel compelled to run that.

Jody deserves this award and more. If you can’t appreciate his lifelong contribution to the sport it’s because you don’t want to. Maybe it’s envy, ignorance or something else.

I’ve never met him, didn’t always agree with him, but always had respect for his diligence and considered our passion for Motocross a common thread. That’s good enough for me.

Uhm, 2000 races during 50 years is 40 races per year. Thats only 12 weekends of. How is that "in the low end" if you are also watching races, doing interviews etc?

MXA was the best mag hands down for a long time, I'm guessing thanks to Jody. Nowadays it's no different than shitty transworld

It's much to slick and glossy for TP. Now spout your nonsense elsewhere.

I might not be a huge fan of Jody, but he definitely deserves this. He's been around since dinosaurs ran across moto tracks Tongue

Don't know how many others out there have the experience and knowledge that Jody does. Even if you don't agree with him, you have to respect the guy!

Deserved! MXA was very important to many of us prior to having the social media platform. Great magazine and a well deserved award. There have been some great Jody's Box articles over the years that have been relatable.

Its ok not to like Jody and more often than not he hopes you don't agree so you decide yourself what you like. I have with him for many years and worked with him for almost as many. He has a huge heart and is one of the most giving guys in the industry.
If he thinks your trying to be something your not he will tell you. If he thinks you are thinking to high of yourself he will tell you. Its not about him being above anyone else its about you being above who you need to be. Keep it real and short.
The whole family of Motocross Action are the nicest bunch I have been around. Not one ego. But I can see if you don't know why you might think that and he has no problem with that. Keep reading and learning.

No. As a bought the first issue, I remember MXA before Jody. It was much better.

That said, only a fool would deny that he has been influential. And the focus on bike settings has been a big help to folks.
