US teams were running VP's "VP Moto" which is an FIM compliant fuel. FIM is a bit stricter with specs, but most notably the octane(-95) & aromatic compound limits, hence the lack of scent. Oxy is similar at -1% compared to US. As for ETS, they use different aromatics for each blend, like VP does. So their US spec pro fuel(USMX21K2) is that super strong distinct smell, whereas overseas they use a different FIM spec fuel with minimal smell.

Rather have the Lawrence’s saying they are going to represent their country for years to come, rather than riders saying “no thanks, the race is in Europe and I have Sx or one off Monster event to prep for”.

Not trying to discredit that second moto effort, but Tomac only did what he needed to do. When all was equal in the first moto, Tomac caught and passed him. Huge props to Sexton on a great season. Hoping someone can at least make it interesting next year.

So you’re saying that he did 3 legit races this year (the 2 in texas, and mammoth), the LLR which can be weird, and a bunch of invite only races where he only does 1 real race a day….yeh I’m starting to get it when they say these guys pretty much never race

I believe there was an issue in the 70’s or 80’s at the pro level as well with someone trying to claim a factory Honda and ALL of the manufacturers got involved to try to make sure Honda didn’t lose one of their factory bikes. I also heard about the native american kid that had an accident at the track and how that was a key domino in the collapse of the event (in addition to the inadequate preparation of the facility). I rode a practice day at that track in late 1997, I think the track had barely opened up. Ryan Hughes was there and rode a modded KX80 with an XR100 engine in preparation for Langtown. He was flying! We had tickets for it, got a message from a friend when were on a stop over in Honolulu on the way over to say it was cancelled. I put the tickets in a safe place when I got home but can’t find them. We went to the World Cup of MX, Rick Doughty of Vintage Iron and others organised for riders who had already arrived and for the fans at a Glen Helen. Mike Metzger was the 3rd rider on the NZ team. I think If you had a foreign passport you got in for free.

Given that both TLD and Gas Gas were new brands to fly a premiere class flag, it seems that getting a top 5 guy who can win races both indoors and out but has a few known warts was their best case scenario. Especially since it wasn't like they were hiring a known felon or something -- just the guy who rides on an edge and already has a brand around it.

Pretty sure that Webb, Tomac, or almost anyone else would have expected that move from Barcia or anyone. That pretty much defines "race craft". Either be gone before he gets there or have a plan to deal with it. Love Ando but full speed ahead ain't always a plan.

I don't know... Don't like Barcia, but I'll allow it. Anderson looked like he was staring straight down his front fender. Seemed somewhat avoidable. It's also Barcia... Anderson gave him 30 feet of track to his inside to work with. Funniest thing Barica ever said was "Barely!" to Tomac 2 years ago. I still laugh when I think of that exchange of words.
