Rode my 05 EXC yesterday on the trails and MX track, always forget how awesome of a bike this thing is. Only pitfall on the MX track is the forks will beat you up if you don’t downside everything perfectly, other than that these machines are very capable weapons in the right hands. One of these days I will swap the 200 motor to a newer frame with linkage, when I get my 150 finished up one day I’ll have one of each of KTM’s small bores, a 125, a 150, and the 200.

I’m not a KTM guy but I do respect the brand. They don’t do everything right but they get the big stuff right. Whatever 2 stroke issues they have will be worked out. With that said I wanted a two stroke but wasn’t ready to sign up for a new KTM 2T just yet. You can test till the cows come home but at some point ya got sell it to get all the bugs worked out. I like 50 on most Mx tracks, after an ECU tune I contemplated going back to stock 49, but I feel the 50 carries 3rd gear better in most turns. I have been riding my bike in tighter GNCC/ woods type trail loops down here in the Florida sand. I am in between 2nd and 3rd often, I will be trying out a 51 rear soon. Then maybe an FmF gnarly pipe, as I have the Mx pipe on now. I am a revver on an Mx track but I like to lug a gear higher in the woods.

My opinion… they should’ve stayed with the 22’ carb engine, improve on durabilty(125 had great stock power but crankshaft/ecu issues), keep improving air shock technology, Eventually, doing the same as Yamaha has done with their 2 stroke line-up, and ending up with a machine that doesn’t need updates every other year and their 2 stroke bikes would sell like hot cakes for years.

11/26/2023 11:05am Can't say I'm not tempted to combine the epower-valve with my Super X STIC carb. FYI, there are ppl retrofitting tbi bikes. I have to say that my 24 300SX has a great upgraded tune(WMR) and ride. It doesn't beat me up neither. Glad the PO paid for the mods.

I would just do anything you can to ride one, obviously opinions are subjective and not wrong, but I couldn’t agree less with Stud. That doesn’t mean Stud is wrong and I’m right, hell I liked the 2009 crf450 so I could just be crazy. I rode a 22 yz250 back to back off my 300sx and like my 300 way more. My built carbed 21 300sx and new tbi 300sx feel almost identical in overall power, no dyno of course but the highly accurate butt dyno says that are pretty much the same

Any XC will have the MX gear ratios, the EXC/XC-W will have a wide ratio gear set and will not moto as well. Now there's the newer Beta 200, it uses a 125...
