Don't most contracts start October 1? He should already be in year 2 of the deal at this point. If he was going to opt out he surely would have had to give notice of doing so at some point prior and sure doesn't seem that's happened.
I sure feel bad for Sexton, Seems like a pretty good guy, Hope he figures this out. Maybe goes to Club MX with a factory backed Yamaha to steer from the Star facility?
Is there a rule that he has to tell the world if he executes said clause? I don't know the validity of him having an out in the first place, but if he does have that out he could have taken it a month ago and we still may or may not know.
Using Prado as data and proof is stupid. If you follow that line of reasoning, that means anyone who moves from a kawi to ktm would improve their finish by 5-10 spots. So Marchbanks would be a hands down winner. Another thing, Prado riding better this year can prove one or two things. It could prove hes better on a ktm. It can also prove the HE DID QUIT on the Kawi team last year. He just didnt even want to try. He could have been top 5 every race last year if gave the effort. Maybe not a winner or podium guy, but for sure better than 10th

I don’t think we needed proof that prado quit kawi. That was as obvious as it gets, But like prado, I think we see a next level chase if he gets off the kawi. Even if it’s a new bike. I don’t think that the kawi can’t win, but there’s a black cloud there and chase mentally needs to get off that team IMO. Chase looked defeated last season and I think he’s at his rock bottom just like prado was. I don’t think it even matters where he lands at this point, I think we will see him prove himself pending getting off kawi.
Im always a bit baffled when I read comments from the few people still defending this fiasco. But then again, people like you have to exist, that is why there has been zero progress in two years, cause they see no problem
Steve is insanely biased about Deegan. Everything he says about him has a backhanded complimentary tone. He will give him props on riding but he jumps at every chance to throw a jab all because he has some weird agenda against Brian Deegan from back in the SoCal 90s and 2000s days.
Lots of riders don't like Steve. Not because he "calls it like it is" but because he's kind of a dick.
Go ask Eli and Hombre how they feel about Matthes.
Also, I like his content. I consume it constantly and appreciate all he does for the riders. So this is an unbiased opinion
Honda, KTM amd Kawi could'nt make Chase happy. It's not the bike. He has a history of burning bridges.
BS
Steve/Pulp just discuss topics most of the industry ignores out of fear or they collect a Monster check..
In my opinion, I think he left Honda because of the Lawrences instead of the bike. And hasn’t found a bike like the Honda since. (And he’s burned bridges since)
For those who still not understand… Prado faked not qualifying because he absolutely had to get of that team/bike, no mather what! Extreme situations demands extreme behaviour, looking shit or not…
Who can blame him now?
The kawi and the team is apparently good enough for a 5-9 place rider (Marchbanks?) but not for a eventual champion, just face the facts!
Mookie wont help the brand much except for his personality much like AP will do for Triumph, but who cares about cowboy hats or bass fishing?
My theory is similar - in 2022 he gave Tomac all he could handle, nearly won the title, then won a bunch of SX races in ‘23, won the title (maybe a bit fortuitously but nonetheless showed the speed). Probably believed he was on a trajectory to clean up for the next 4-5 years.
Along comes Jett and in ‘23 MX he can barely show him a wheel. Suddenly Chase’s best is no longer good enough to win races, let alone titles, and he’s been searching ever since for that extra few percent that just doesn’t exist except in very small flashes.
You’ve obviously never been Bass fishing!
I’m hearing it’s between KTM and Star.
Ok, definitely an element of "head case" Chase and wonderful fatherly actions - [insert KYB/ WP suspension sale pic here], but....
Honda - They simply ended up getting these Aussie brothers who turned out to be pretty damn good at both racing and bike development - something Chase clearly struggles with. We all work, do you accept second fiddle or go elsewhere to be the top dog? Especially when you have a list of interested companies and big money offered?
KTM - around the time he signed to go elsewhere, not only were their issues with the rear shocks, but the financial issues of the firm were clear. Again, if your employer was facing such issues and another firm offers you a big deal - do you go for it?
Kawi - sure, Prado made it clear he wasn't happy (obvs) but Chase didn't have any other real options at the time and like everyone here said - Prado was the issue, nothing to do with the bike or team... I am a Kawi guy, but you really do have to look at this team and question what's going on. Everyone jumps on their defense "Eli did pretty good" or "RV made it work", but those are the only two guys in however many years and no doubt, with their talent - they'd have had equal success on any bike. Outside of those two guys, it's been rough and even Eli and RV left on bad terms.
Next is bringing up Weimer as he's been the most out spoken, but not one of the former Kawi guys has had a good relationship with the brand since racing for them. Even going back to the RC days he said they wouldn't make the required changes to the bike, hence his move to Honda. Bubba is the only other big one, but he didn't get offered a deal, largely as they knew RV was coming and the Red Bull/ Monster ordeal was a problem, but you'd still think they would have come up with something to try and keep him?
For me, the comments from the team around Sextons crash made it all too clear to me that they have issues and need a shake up management wise over there. You only have to go back to the blue pig days with Yamaha to the team being run by a complete new group of people to see how the change can make a difference.
Fingers crossed they're able to settle everything and be a success next year (and the year after 😬). I'm sure Chase will get another shot - Pipes or Ducati perhaps, but I can't see any other big name going to Kawasaki for a long time if they don't make it work.
I also like that Chase it openly committing to MXON next year already. That's definitely a little stir the pot move. "Kawi won't go"
Nothing against fishing but i expect a factory rider to be more interested in riding than fishing…
Caught a pike once… yeeahh, been there done that… not my game… sorry..
RJ would of been awesome too, just send it!
Interesting topic for sure.
Mysteriously my social media feed has numerous unknown accounts posting;
The Reed/MJ team being formed around Deegandashian. Thus STAR signing Sexton to backfill their team.
If true that would obviously mean Monster Energy as a title sponsor for the Reed/MJ team on Yamahas. No way in hell the Deegandashian’s would leave Monster.
Is this even possible? Didn’t Deegan just sign a multi year deal with Star last year?
obviously somebody is paying for this story to be promoted on social media.
Pit Row
So many forget that the 450 team which Deegan is a member of is NOT owned by Star, but just RUN by Star.
Riders on the 450s are paid by YAMAHA.
If Yamaha and Deegan would want to run a separate team from the Star ran one, there should be minimal issue.
Monster may have the extra money as they are pulling their primary sponsorship from the Yamaha MotoGP team at the end of this season.
That would leave an extra spot on the Star ran side of things, but my guess is an outside sponsor would need to pony up some of the money for his contract unless it was a low salary/high bonus deal through YMUS, which frankly would be a win for Yamaha. With all the heavy hitters in the 450 class even if Chase is back to 100% in mind, body, and bike he won't be cashing an outrageous amount of bonus checks. Barring injury, Lucas, Lawrence bros, Prado, K-Roc, Deegs, are all going to be in the way of a win.
If I were Sexton, I'd try to jump back on a KTM. He'd signed to Kawi WAY early in the season just before they got the bike figured out and he started to have his great results on the pumpkin. Hind sight is always 20/20, and if I was Chase I would have wished I could have rescinded the Kawi signing. KTM can run that many bikes, but it sure would be a loaded team with the Coenen's and Jorge on there too. My guess is it would be similar to Prado's contract (heavy bonus, light salary).
MC won a few mains in 97' on a bike that wasn't great.
It can happen.
The more teams sexton throws under the bus for under performing equipment ,the less water it holds.
Stay with Kawi. It’s the least exciting news, but it’s the right call. Make it work the best you can, keep collecting a fat check, and then make a move when one is actually available.
Kawi being inflexible is not new news, nor that they don’t listen to riders. He rode the bike and signed anyway, so this is what you get. If he really wants to get out of it he’d go buy the bike of his choosing and ride it until something he likes opens up for him. But no, I know that’s crazy and he’ll never do it because he expects to get paid for his talent, but no championship contending factory backed team is open at this point in time.
He’s a square peg trying to fit into an already occupied round hole no matter where he would go.
Way more people care about bass fishing than moto.
503 replies and the question ain't answered. Or did I miss something?
I meant who cares about Malcolms fishing…
Nothin to see here, Boom. Check back in 5-7 business days.
Marketing people do. There’s a cross over demographic of people that fish and are into moto. It’s also a way to branch both industries customer base over and hopefully get new customers.
I don’t understand why so many moto fans have such a hard time with this, I am not bagging in you, just see it a lot. Not everyone is being signed to win races or championships. There’s only a few guys being signed to do that. Malcom isn’t going to set the world on fire or even be a constant podium contender. Neither is AP. But they both of a large fan base. And they can branch over to other industries that are close as well easily. It’s all about money in the end. The fifth place guy can still bring some in.
It'll be hilarious if Sexton shows up at A1 on a Kawi and does well.........
Yup, I hear you. Sexton ain't going anywhere. He made his bed and he gotta sleep in it. I actually think these guys can turn their program around come 27. At least, I hope so!
Ok, forget the fishing comment! 🤣
