What is your solution?

How about InFront match what AMA pays for qualifying for a national? MX2 $440 MXGP $535.

Without full support of the manufacturers, MXdN will be pride fighting- not prize fighting.

What about the 65cc, 85cc and 125cc riders, should they get paid?

Funny you mention that - Yamaha awards the winner of the 125 race with a factory ride to the EMX125 championship for '27.

Yet Yamaha USA won't even send their riders, let alone offer any type of reward!

Compare that to the factory win bonus of a 450SX main!

It's also funny that an American won the 85cc race, but nobody is celebrating the win on Vital, is that because he would be faster than 90% of Vitards?

If you wish to carry the voice of riders, that is a very noble endeavor. Just curious about what triggered this: how many riders have you heard complaining about going or having to go to MXON? All I read and hear is riders really happy to be there, for some that's an honor and possibly the highlight of their career. Riders are entitled to feel different, who are we talking about ?

A lot of the crew will be volunteers.

The event i am doing in Belgium this week, 400 riders from all over europe, 80% of the workers will be working for free.

In Europe, the clubs are voluntary, and the infrastructure is owned by the club.  They will be paid expenses at some levels, but the local guys will be there for the love of the sport.

The money the club make will be ploughed back into the venue.  Buildings, fences, parking, roadways, every year there is something new.

This obsession with were is the money going and where’s my slice seems to be a USA thing. Some  American golf players  are now wanting money for representing America in the Ryder Cup.

I've watched the 65 and 85 races, yet to catch up with the 125s.

That little Brit  ( I think it was a Little Pomie B**stard? We Luvs Yuz Poms ) on the 65, going Absolutely Ballistic on that downhill jump, was just Stunning.

I'm always impressed by the youngsters.

So bloody quick, and the 65s, and, to a slightly lesser extent, the 85s, almost disappearing in corner ruts, well, that's  a bit " how R yah going ". I liken it to coming across bottomless 4WD trenches on a ride, but those little blighters are racing for sheep stations while dealing with  them!

Fuck no !!!

Hope not as well.

He’s had his chances. even for the next year after that at Ironman…..leave him at home to have Botox

If any  of you feel that a rider should be paid. Then get on a different forum to advocate it, sell the shit out of it.why don’t you set a go fund me page

How about you may a pride payment towards it.

Let’s just all admit it. Deagan didn’t want to go. Can he ride yes he can. He hasn’t won anything close to what was expecting based on his own delicate ego.

So why travel all this way to not get the results his ego wanted

As a proud Canadian I’m sure the Canadian team would like to win as did deagan. But the Canadian team didn’t have an ego and came over did ,the best they could with good results.

I’m proud to say that.  had a flag up in the VIP section to show my support.

This race has been going on a long time with no pay involved. Only pride and the will to represent ones country. What’s changed that requires this change you ask for? The economy has always had ups and downs so that excuse is out. What will inevitably happen is the riders will show up for the wrong reasons.

However I think InFront should subsidise team’s travel costs. A rate per kilometre to get there would be fair.

Have two MXoN.
One that pays the riders and teams and one that doesn’t.

After 2 years you will be back to one MXoN and everyone will be happy and you will the best chance of the top riders competing against each other.

Or does everyone expect these riders to just go ride for pride. That’s not realistic anymore.

The three race SMX finals pay pretty good, I haven't seen a huge influx of MXGP riders coming over for that. That the Deegan's seemed to want to be paid to attend is odd, for all the talk of Brian being such a savvy businessman and he can't figure out a way to monetize his son attending an event of that magnitude other than begging the promoters or AMA for money displays what kind of uncomplicated hillbilly he really is, or how cowardly. This is about expanding your audience and your brand, Roger Decoster knew this in the 70s when he was the last of the Euros racing our TransAm series. That Brian Deegan, or Kawasaki and Yamaha America do not feel that the sight of one of their riders chasing Herlings and Prado up and down those hills last weekend would not be worth at least $100K in positive press, brand building, and goodwill astounds me. MX fans still chat about Magoo, RV, Omara, and others exploits at the MXoN years later after all the SX finishes have faded, that Danger Boy will never be among those elite is a penance he will never be able to atone to. Meanwhile a decade from now, young fans will still have posters on their walls of Cooper Webbs Red White and Blue Husky as will many of us. There are 17 SX races a year, only one MXoN.

This is delusional.

The event costs the organizing motoclub at Ernée 3.8M€. Loosely, 125€ tickets for 30 k paying spectators is 3.75M€ revenue (not profit!). Of course you have the full 3 days ticket at 175€, Sunday adult at 125€, junior weekend at 75€, junior Sunday at 55€, early birds and so on so I have to guesstimate the average ticket price. Add some revenue from the food stands, camping and so on, they need to be able to cover the 3.8M€ cost, they probably make a small profit but absolutely not double of their cost!

If they were to make 0.5M€ profit from this, and if they were to spend all that hypothetical profit to pay the riders (instead of reinjecting it into the track, facilities and everything else), they could give 5k€ per rider.

Now of course if you were thinking about Infront instead of the motoclub, the hosting fee they're asking for the right to organize a FIM MXGP or MXON event is 300-750 k€ (lower end for Europe historic tracks and higher end overseas). Let's say they ask 500k€ to host MXON: if they were to give 100% of this fee back to riders, from the bottom of their heart (we know Infront 🤣), we're back to 5k€ per rider.

We can always discuss the numbers, the question is : would that make any difference for teams and riders ?

My own opinion on this would be to pay the teams fair expenses for travel, accommodation etc.,  ( not necessarily any wages for riders)

Plus show the races on free-to-view TV around the world , so fans are not getting ripped off as well as the teams

That would still leave some profits for the promoters

Yeah it’s delusional to think they couldn’t put on this event for less than 3 million dollars, you’re for sure right man 🫡

Feel free to make up any imaginary numbers in your mind.

If you think you know better than the president of the motoclub, that is on his 3rd well attended and universally praised MXON, I guess you must have plenty of experience organizing MX races with 1300 volunteers and 30 000 spectators.

The security and medical bill is already at 450 000 €.

Besides that, what's your point, the motoclub should scrub the costs to pay the riders?

You wrote that someone makes 7-8 M profit from that event, well, who is that and how did you come up with that number?

  • Many mxgp/mx2 teams have complained over the costs of overseas races over the past few years. No team boycotted a race
  • all major emx250 teams complained over the trip to Finland last year. No team boycotted the race
  • many of the top riders complained about the safety and medical situation after certain accidentes. No rider boycotted a race.
  • We have races with 15 gp riders and no oem acts.

As long as the parties involved only look at their own direct benefits and dont work together there will always be a money distribution in which the majority goes to Infront.

And why pay the riders? Lawrences were not there, no Deegan or Sexton either and the race was packed. Like I said SMX pays pretty good I don't see MXGP riders lining up to do that.

I saw they had 105,000 in attendance & tickets were $90 from what I gather. They made damn near $10,000,000 just from ticket sales to this event. What’s it going to take for them to pay the riders/teams? Insane.

105,000 is over three days so they are basically counting the same ticket three times. 15,000 on Friday and 45,000 on both Saturday and Sunday is a more accurate estimate.

The BOTTOM-LINE:

The promoters charge and get PAID ridiculous amounts of money for this ONE RACE…The MXON.

It’s time they kicked down for the countries that compete by providing a legitimate amount for travel/lodging/per diem for the attending teams. In order to be fair, actual expense research would be required to cover fair amounts based on actual travel expenses.

Example: it’s a helluva lot more expensive to travel to France from places like Oz & NZ than it is from the United States or Canada.

It’s time for this to happen.

MXoN is incredibly successful and riders want to race it every year. Why would in front cut into their profits when they have great participation already?  Doesn’t make any business sense.

If large numbers of countries and teams start refusing to go without help then maybe they can force infront’s hand but no one seems to be doing that.

The USA side loves to complain about it, but I’d wager the enthusiasm over it or lack of is because our season is too long to begin with.

What about all the money InFront makes from MXGPTV and selling the broadcasting rights? I don't think the riders should get paid, but them and the teams should certainly not be LOSING money to make InFront money!

The teams and riders could say No, and see if it forces infronts hand. Apparently all the fans think this is a bigger issue then the teams and riders though.

However I think InFront should subsidise team’s travel costs. A rate per kilometre to get there would be fair.

It may have began more like your vision, but it’s become mostly about the money…..

There’s definitely still the smokescreen that the promoters want pushed about it being for ‘patriotism’ and ‘national pride’, but just demand that ticket prices be lowered to cover just the actual costs of the event and you’ll see very quickly that this event is about money.

The promoter (Infront) does not get any money from ticket sales. That goes to the organizer (local motoclub). I don't think any motoclub is getting rich from hosting MXON?

The promoter asks a sanctioning fee from the organizer. If they (Infront) were to remove the sanctioning fee for MXON round that might amount to 5k per rider.

The riders get paid a salary by their teams, if it was an extra GP or SMX round this wouldnt even be a discussion. Exactly the same as teams complaining its an extra race. Governing bodies should cover travel, but as for prize money, bonuses and all that i dont see how its an argument. Nobody is being asked to ride for free if they are already being paid by someone.

Cooper Webb was awesome yesterday, did he ask about pay? Guy retired from outdoor mx and still went and put his balls on the line it was the best ive seen him all summer. If a guy needs more money to have national pride, how much pride does he have to begin with.

The best nations for a couple of years IMHO

Remember, back in the day, it was possible for top riders, like David Bailey, to show up at the MXoN, in a Transit van, 'cause in reality, that's all you need.  These days, they have to bring their posee, hair stylist, speech therapist, dog trainer... and someone to pass them their toxic drink on the podium. 18 wheelers, just to move a few little motorcycles around?  They choose to make things cost so much more than they need, they cannot complain.  The Olympics doesn't pay, it's an honor to represent your country.  Little boy Deegan would have his ass handed to him on a plate in Europe, so best to stay home looking at himself in the mirror.

It started not too long after that photo tbh. I remember going in the pits at the Matterley 2006 MXDN when Bubba rode, and one of the things that stuck in my mind was the sheer amount of kitted-up bullshitters and hangers-on with team USA. No wonder you guys baulk at the cost if the team is still being run along similar lines..
