That’s a long way from reality.  Heaps of riders from Australia, NZ, Japan, Canada, a few South American countries.

I don’t think riders should have to pay a dime out of their pocket to race MXdN. I also don’t think sponsors should be able to use the patriotic images in their ads unless they kick in financially to help fund it (not just providing product). Maybe I’m a flawed guy but it would bother me to spend $10-20k to get myself and family setup across the planet and see companies who sponsor me using those photos for ads to market their products for free.

If you do a work trip overseas do you bring along your wife/girlfriend, bag carrier, fluffer etc?

So I would agree that I would not work for free but also I have no big following and media presence in this sport. Skipping the most prestigious event of the sport that made you big because you are not getting paid (enough)? Sure you can see it that way. but not seeing it the other way around. That this can be about glory and giving back to the sport and most importantly fans who are the basis for all that?

Ask the promoter why they don’t see it the same way. They carry bags of cash to the bank every year.

If I were selected to represent my Country in something I absolutely would do it for free.

Work? What makes you think this race is about work? Sure, these are professional racers, but their “job” is to win races and titles in their respective series, and to be ambassadors for their various sponsors. But this race has nothing to do with any of that. And it ain’t for everyone.

Now, if a racer somehow has “must race the MXoN” written into their contracts, then okay, it’s part of their job. I don’t think anyone has that going on.

Should fund USA?  How about the funding teams that have no money and have to fundraise all year long - Australia is lucky it has a passionate group of people here that are willing to do just that to help send our boys otherwise we couldn't afford to go.

Ask Marchbanks how much he would expect to be paid to represent his country. Then when he gives the inevitable answer of "nothing" you pack his bags for him.

The difference between recognizing the honour of being invited to represent versus the opposite.

Go sign up for the ADF and tell them, that in honor of your country, you'll do it for free.

I've made it well known I don't care for the kid, but unless he's demanding to get paid or he doesn't go (Matthes' article doesn't make that clear), I don't think asking for a win/podium bonus is all that unreasonable. US Olympic athletes get between $15k - $38k per medal – and it's a far bigger honor to be asked to represent your country at the Olympics – but no one's giving those athletes shit for not doing it for free.

This squabbling every year is pathetic. The US supposedly has the biggest moto industry in the world, yet it seems nobody is willing to facilitate getting to the biggest internationa  race.

Meanwhile small countries attend every year without any chance of ever winning. How do they do it? Fund raising that starts nearly 12 months in advance. It's not like the event is sprung on anyone without notice.

In the absence of any other willing parties, the AMA should be stepping up.

Yes, but I'm not sure if the other countries have the same constraints: e.g: Star wanting 50k per bike to go, and as reported by Matthes, Donger and Lips wanting bonuses to go...

That being said, it still is pathetic that the US can't get it's shit together. The real reason is it doesn't like getting smoked...

There were zero problems going back when they won every time...

That $50k Star fee would get laundered right into Doucheboy's bank account. That's how the game is played.

He's not special and he ain't worth it.

Actually Fact is - he is worth it and everyone knows this.   Like it or not he is the number one draw in mx right now…his social media alone is  millions more than the fastest rider ever (Jett) and his brother combined..no one even close to his level of popularity..(realize this hurts feeling in here).

Whatever he would get paid brings huge ROI

Okay Lips...

Don't you have a face injection appointment to get to?

One, why did Matthes say it was a “rumor” that Deegan is asking for bonus money. Can a journalist get someone on the phone and on the record? Sheesh…

Two, this race is all about pride.Either you wanna step up and prove you’re the baddest mofo on the planet, or you stay the fuck at home. Nobody owes you jack for going. If your country wants to help with expenses, cool. If not, also cool. But expecting to get paid to “represent your country?”  That’s some grifter shit that has nothing to do with the spirit of this event. IMHO.

The 'rumour' thing is an update on Matthes' part. He usually just says straight out that the Deegans want money to go.

And by the way there aren't any journalists in moto to get anyone on the phone.  Plenty of 'media' but no journalists I'm afraid.

The THREAT...that they can paint a bad picture of the rider not loving his country...knowing that ENOUGH of the fanbase...will not think for themselves and believe this bullshit is real.

No. And they shouldn't fund the USA. That's obscene being that it's the richest country in the world.

Matthes is stuck in the 80s with his view that the US is the biggest drawcard at the MXDN. Those days are long long long gone.

Nah stuff em, if they need to be paid to represent their country, they probably aren’t the best representatives. I think they already get the basics taken care of, it’s only a big cost for the entourage.. it’s moto, not a ufc title fight.

I was impressed when Beaton was running his pace on a stock 450 in front of 2/3 of the star squad. I don’t think they need to drag all the bikes over there, plenty of ways to reduce costs..

Stop with the selection process for MXoN.

Ask for a list of riders that want to go.
Start there.

Maybe we end up with some former pros for a team to send or whoever.

Only if you want to go sign here. If you don’t want to, don’t sign here and let’s move on.

Without the USA it’s just another MXGP (and yes I do understand the MXON).

Riders should not expect prize money from their federation depending on results. They should turn up with pride to represent their country.

Especially Riders that are making ( reputedly) Millions from the Sport.

Because, I really don't think any of those Millionaire riders, would make such sums, out of the Sport.

Really enjoying the jabs at Deegs in this thread but its a weird situation, racing in general is "just" a massive marketing effort, the entire ama SX/MX/SMX is just a rolling circus of parties (teams, bikes, brands) who pretend to be separate but are really all part of the same unit that use the racing series' as marketing to sell gear, bikes and various products...nothing new I know. MXDN is a separate event, where the identifying factor is a riders' country and not his team or bike or anything else (which is usually what makes all these brands pay teams/riders to be associated with them as that's their marketing). As many have stated though its more that post-MXDN if your rider happens to be on the team that won you can get some marketing out there about that but if you are part of the 99% of the field that doesn't win its just a big expensive exhibition race except the brands dont get the eyeballs on their stuff unless they're on the winning team. I kinda get it from a brand/teams perspective about renting bikes etc. but why a rider who is already a millionaire also wants more money is beyond me - they are there to represent their country and should be very keen to do so for that reason alone.

They’d make that money back just from the MXDN YouTube video.

If someone believes they’re not making money off of their channel as they claim, they’re dumb.

Only if you define winning by monetary profit. The Chamberlain trophy and the individual class bragging rights are about much more than the cheddar. Unless you don’t think so, and if that’s the case, don’t go.
