He is 5 years younger than the current SX champ and the same age as the current MX champ. Also 5 years younger than the current MXGP champ. He will still be in his prime the next few years, and hopefully the time away puts him in a better place mentally. He has seemed miserable for a while now.

for American moto/sx, Eli hangtown 2015 has to be in the Rushmore. Sorry Zach. Other ones are solid. I feel like James had better races when he was on Kawi but 2014 Toronto is iconic because he was doing all the different jump combos

Complete and utter BS. Not the heel clickers, but the "trying to stop the Americans" bit Yes, they modified the track - as, it basically broke the rules about Doubles etc of the time. And, indeed, there was a hell of a lot of concern about the danger of riders being landed on. Especially during training / qualifying. Various riders were going for massive air as their main thing, and just missing riders that weren't. Can you imagine the carnage from such a huge jump(s) and someone landing on another rider? About BS being posted : that Americans were being stopped from jumping things - have a look at race videos from the event and you'll see plenty of air from many, many riders. I was there at Jerez in 96 - you?

I visited the Carlsbad Raceway site on June 28th, exactly 40 years since the final Grand Prix was held there on June 28th, 1986. Commercial development has claimed most of the southwest portion of the track, including the legendary Carlsbad Freeway and notorious downhill. Nature has reclaimed nearly all that was left untouched by bulldozers and earthmovers. The start straight, first turn, and Devil's Drop remain recognizable if you know what you're looking for. Here are my photos with some playful amateur Photoshop for amusement, well-known photographs from 1986, and other memorabilia.

That “old and tired” field of riders produced some interesting racing last night. Then, after the racing was done…one of the “older guys” went and apparently had a throw down with one of the “younger guys”. I guess he wasn’t very “tired”?
