Deegan is a YouTuber that just happens to be really good at motocross. His fans aren't moto fans, they know nothing about moto and are following him because he's famous from YouTube. This narrative that he's "bringing new fans to the sport" and "growing the sport" is laughable. Moto fans will always be moto fans, new riders come into the sport, shine, then retire. Those moto fans will still support moto and the next rider they are interested in. If Deegan announced tomorrow that he's quitting moto and doing something else, 95% of his fans would disappear from moto because...

I know the FFM does a lot for the sport. They’ve been buying motocross tracks for years to help ensure riders continue to have places to ride. I know they help in other ways as well. Helping French riders get to big events and things like that. It’s great to see. I think a lot of other sanctioning bodies could take a page or two out of their book, but that’s just my opinion.

This race has been going on a long time with no pay involved. Only pride and the will to represent ones country. What’s changed that requires this change you ask for? The economy has always had ups and downs so that excuse is out. What will inevitably happen is the riders will show up for the wrong reasons.
