Closest thing to mx for 60+ years old.
Kinda safe.
Kinda not.
Casselberry fl spent 4 million to build Wheels skateboard and bicycle park.
How crazy is that to build this 4 miles from my house.
Look up pump track. I knew nothing about this 2 weeks ago.
Pump tracks are all well and good - being Pump tracks.
But, with my local BMX track - and so many others - becoming, basically, Wide Pump tracks, it really, Really Sucks!
Yeah pump tracks are cool. Our city is building a brand new one 5 mins away and I'm pumped to ride it. They're great for learning how to carry speed.
BMX was completely neutered in the 2010s by the entity that's destroyed youth sports and activities worldwide: the single mommy mafia
Did you ride it?

I find them kind of boring. Give me some jumps! But I'm an 80's BMX'er...
I messed around with some backyard pumptracks awhile back; learning to ride without pedaling was the most significant improvement to my riding ability & fitness I've experienced. It teaches you to be much more pro-active rather than just hanging along for the ride.
There is a couple in the area.

Not a pump track but they have a technical course at Markham Woods MTB as well
When I lived in south Florida I would drive down to the pump track in Miami. It's painted like octopus tentacles and is really cool. I got to where I could double a few things but I really didn't have a proper bike at the time. I'm working on building a Specialized P3 right now to ride at the local skatepark and pump tracks!
IMO pump tracks are awesome for learning how to flow, carry speed, and pop on a bicycle. I think they are way better on a DJ bike rather than a 20" BMX too, the 20" bikes seem so small after years of MX and mountain bike riding. Get a good flow around the track and see how many laps you can do in a row, it's a great workout as well.
DJ bikes are far more forgiving for us older guys and cruisers are too fast
Used to do this years ago, after we got the flow pretty well down, we would take the chains and front sprocket off. It really teaches you how to carry momentum that way, hard on the knees though
I tried one on my big, full-squish MTB. It's not easy to pump on one of those, even in the lockout mode. Still, pretty fun.
When my kid was still on a BMX bike, we went down to one and had a good time together.
This Pump Track was a couple miles from my home when I lived in Salem Oregon a few years back. I spent a fair amount of time here. There is also a dirt track. I was 68 years young at this time. This kinda of riding will kick the crap out of an older man🤣 Albany MX was 20M away
Rode a really neat one in Flagstaff a while back, not great for full suspension but had a good time!
That Flagstaff bike park is super fun
Pump tracks are awesome and probably the best workout I’ve ever found. Seriously, do a few laps on a decent sized pump track and you’ll be smoked.
If they’re built right there can be a ton of different rhythm options to do combining doubling, manuals, rollers, all sorts of different combos to keep it fun. Not to mention you can do some pretty fun transfers from lane to lane depending on design.
Great post. I improve every lap and the pump track can really get your heart rate bouncing off the rev-limiter. MTB, Downhill, and eMTB are also great training for MX.
I always thought MTB flow trail was the best moto cross-training... until I tried a pump track. Tons of fun.
I run a 26" DJ for safety/forgiveness, but a true 20" BMX bike is even more fun to me.
Pit Row
What is a DJ bike ? Last summer I checked out the pump black top track & the 3 skill level dirt runs. It looks fun. Sat I had a Bad crash initially I thought I got the wind knocked out of me bad . My left arm started shaking bad & started sweating hard. I couldn’t breathe or talk . My neck , left side of my face swelled up. A guy called 911 paramedics ran test real quick & gave me a fentanyl shot . And said you’re not going to make it to a Trauma center if we drive you. They drove me 2 mi away to a fire dept & we waited for flight for life. Got the last prayer , helicopter ride I thought I wasn’t going to make it. Aprox 30 people in icu it was chaos. They all gave me a look like your a goner . Collapsed lung , few lacerations, hole in lung was hilling my body with bubbles, eye was 90 % swelled shut , left side of face , left side of neck was huge & all ovr to my body to my knees. All I could get out was huh repeatedly . Massive pressure & by far the worst pain I ever experienced. Broken femur, back, neck, blow knee is nothing. I left my body a few times , died . They yelled my name . Don’t remember how many shots for pain . I broke 2 threw 8 ribs on the back near the spine , nerves r there. They said I got lucky & made it. Transported to The Trauma wing then . Sat night to wed 3pm. No sleep they constantly come in & move your body or work on you. You can’t do anything. Wait hrs for a fentanyl pump , hit a button every 10 min. I had a 1/2 3/4 in spur on top of my shoulder, that’s gone . My should sits lower & in more , I,m sure it’s trashed . New v3 fox helmet did its job I did get a white flash . Neck brace on during surgery. The state of flow has its price . It you can’t handle worse pain than death . You might want to think about it. Krepis bubbles under the skin , got my srotum swelled up
Way bigger than a soft ball. Catheter was installed . 1/2 my wang is bubbles today yet. Long rd to heal how I broke them is the worst way . 1st ride for the yr & I was riding Really good , hit the rt corners on the inside. Brake tap slide it in , just having a blast .
We used to race BMX and currently ride pump tracks, dirt jump and slope style. Good fun and easy to do with a wide range of kid ages.
Dang, Profesh that's gnarly. Glad you're well enough to type, hope you heal up quickly. How's the CR?
I,m in a lot of pain yet no sleep the last 2 nights. My shoulder is pushed in & down too. Took a pain killer & made to a clinic 1/8 mi away. Rotar cuff is probably blown. ICU hit me with more pain meds not enough. Next pain med I left my body . I did that a few times in icu. Exhale & all energy left my body . I hear my name yelled & came back. Dying is crazy I could see myself on the table a couple times from up above . When you come back you say I can’t handle this massive pressure & pain . They yelled my name in surgery 3-4 times. Hv bubbles under my skin neck to crotch yet. Bubbles r gone from my eye , face & legs, so that good. I,m still coughing blood up . I broke the 7 ribs near my spine & bad there ovr lapped . Supposed to be more painful . No broken bones in my shoulder, hRP chest did its job there. Energy from the hit broke the ribs . I did not land on my back side. The DBP is good I think . It sat outside my van sat to wed 5-6 pm not locked up. Track closes the gate but u could see it from
The rd. Lucky there. Dr said my ribs might heal not lined up. Might need surgery . Then shoulder surgery .
Yeah thx it’s going to be a long road to get well. 1st ride & I was feeling so good perfect in the sand corners . Rpm ,s up high quick clutch & brake tap to pop the rear into a rut. 2 tiny hills with a take off ramp I jumped onto flat into the whoops & skim the tops to the corner. I was feeling great. 1st gear corner deep dry sand I just carve . On exit 2 quick clicks to 3rd no speed just high wheels spin . It caught the hard under the sand like a starting grid . I got excited to rip through the whoops . Then shock hit a hard edge peak & kicked up & to the right I went up in the air . Flew a few feet left . Head & shoulder into a hard whoop near the edge on track wall. A ton of sand fell out of my helmet when I got up . My chest hurt bad & couldn’t breathe for a minute plus . Thought I knocked the wind out of me bad. Then I noticed my left arm shaking worse than a seizure . And I knew I was in trouble. This track took out a new a class rider with the same deep dry conditions . Week b4 Mike got a concussion drs said no riding . He raced anyway he got a bad head injury. He’s like a 1 yr old his dad & r n mom working with him for yrs to get that. Mike was fast doing heal clickers off aztalan plateau in 98, while winning very competitive 125 b, 99 was his wreck.
Sorry to hear and hope all goes well!
I’m currently trying to get one built in my community. Working with American Ramp Company to go before my city council to propose it.
Ridden one and it was a blast.
I love pump tracks. But most around me are too small to be any real fun. I only like ones where you can make different jump combo’s. From different angles.
My boys and I ride are emtb (yt decoys) with street tires and it makes you feel like your riding a mini supercross track to me. And yes it smokes my ass and I’m out of breath on it. But I am 56.
I’ve raced BMX a long time, the tracks, except a few of the UCI track are relatively the same, bar asphalt turns. Rockford, probably one of the most popular tracks in the Midwest has been the same since the first time I raced it in 04. I’m not trying to pick a fight, or have a debate, just curious as to why you’d say that?
But back to the topic, pump track are a blast.
DJ is Dirt Jump, they have taller wheels and are more stable and forgiving as opposed to 16” bikes.
A Dirt Jumper more times than not is a single speed mountain bike with more of a bmx geometry. Typically front suspension and a hard tail with 26”, 27.5” or 29” wheels.
We built a pump track at my house in NH before we moved west. Miss it.

For bikes I tried everything, and settled on on my Pedal Driven Cycles custom 22” wheeled bike as my favorite for the pump track. Plenty of room, even at 6’4” and pushing 55 years old.
