What about a vocal team owner with his own media outlet like Reedy?

I believe in just one episode Feld stole sponsors from Reed's team. Make no mistake, if Jordan gets into pro motocross he is going after Coombs and Felds money. And he and every other team/rider will benefit. The model that exists now is so fucked up it couldn't be scripted this way.

So you’re saying MJ is making a foray into MX to grab the chump change that is on offer?  Or are you saying that his intention is to fund these “benefits” to teams and riders?

Where does the money come from for the teams to be profitable?

Because a partnership with the participants results in a better overall product. You don't get that when things are driven by 1-2 partners (Feld/MXSports) that control everything and are content with the status quo. We take for granted the money the OEMs pour into the sport with limited control over how it's controlled and presented.

The promoters are certainly creating (maintaining) wealth. The money comes from attendance, tv deals, etc etc.

This is something I’ve thought about. Feld/MxSports/OEM’s have a symbiotic relationship where they work together to the benefit of both parties.

Feld/MxSports want to make money. OEM’s want to sell bikes.

we have been told many times we won’t see an equal displacement rule because some of the OEM’s don’t make 2 strokes anymore and they’d pull out of the series. Which I think is complete BS and their bluff should be called.

Racing is "designed" to be a platform for OEMs to convert associate sponsorship dollars into R&D budget, with the racing being the development platform.

If a team isn't profiting that's their inability to sign associate sponsors.

Feld, and the Coombs primarily. I believe there is plenty of ad dollars from the TV screening, judging by the broadcasters having a larger supporting cast than the film "Ben Hur".

People assume the Coombs are making money hand over fist which out anything to substantiate it. If they are good for them.

And we should want them to be profitable, that’s what draws other money into the sport.

I am not saying anything, simply speculating what seems to be obvious. And to answer your question, yes to both. One could guess it could be argued both MXsports and Feld have monopolies in their respective disciplines among other things.

I would also guess the 31 or so races isn't chump change anymore.

It's not a monopoly when anyone else in the world who wants to start a series can. It's when you conspire with other to stop them from doing  it becomes and issue. Example AMA/JAM Sports.  WSX started something and its up to them to make it great. SX and MX took 50 years to get where they are today.

FYI, MJ with NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin started their own NASCAR team a few years ago. Actually doing quite well this year with multiple wins.

Also, my 'agent of change' comment reflects the recent lawsuit that MJ and another party filed against NASCAR.

Chad Reed gets a lot of hate, but Two Two was legit. Biggest names in the sport were on the team and they were beating the factory guys on a privateer bike, 2012 he was arguably the fastest guy indoors and out until Chadapault & Houston (was it Houston where he crashed battling villlo?) Honda took notice and started giving factory parts, but it’s a cool story.

Steve did a great article on Racer X about the team, awesome read.

anyone know why Chad switched TwoTwo from Honda to Kawi? I've heard that HRC will help guys out with works parts, like Brayton, but I doubt KHI would give more if any help to Chad.

This is pro racing everywhere.

The difference is FIM and FIA is set up to burn government marketing funds (aka the taxpayers’ money).

The way I remember it was Reedy didn’t like the new CRF at the time and felt the Kawi handled better, and of course HRC would only supply parts if he continued on their new model.
That came after he said the 2012 CRF was the best bike he ever had.

Worth noting he’d experienced something similar before after the 2004 YZ250 was so good then Yami went and changed the chassis.

5.11 was all over the '26 SX series, but overshadowed by Bass Pro Shops, which pulled some of it's NASCAR $$ after the embarrassments revealed during MJ's settled lawsuit against the France family and NASCAR.

Where does the money come from for the teams to be profitable?

AMA Pro roadracing was where MJ learned the ropes of professional racing and likely broke even in the end. He's always had a passion for going fast on motorcycles.

He took what he'd learned and studied NASCAR for a while before entering it and has been quite successful. I guarantee his NASCAR team is profitable.

The lawsuit win (very early settlement after embarrassing testimony by France family executives,) has put him in the catbird seat in US motor racing, imho.

The next Roger Penske.

I hope this all comes to fruition.  Where Joe Gibbs Racing failed, MJ will succeed and change the sport forever.

Man, I think you're right about the Roger Penske thing. He earned a lot of juice in American motorsports with that lawsuit.

Be a good opportunity for Husqvarna to take a year off and then possibly support this team.
