I think comparing your experience in road racing to your MX experience holds zero weight in regards to the severity of professional closed course motorcycle racing.

I guess it's just much easier to get started on dirt bikes at a really young age. Here's another Australian rider who did ok on dirt before switching to road racing.

I've never being wealthy in my life, I'm a blue collar hard worker just scraping to make ends meet BUT the one thing I've never gone without in my life is a fucking great medical Aid / cover. I raced for 20 yrs and never paid a dime for three bad crashes....I've been hurt plenty. The way I live my life dictates that I have to have good medical cover. It is a sin to ride or race without covering yourself.

Riders can progress as pros. Some just a little, and some a lot. Deegan progressed a lot since his SX Futures race where he rode wild and unrefined. Plus he simply didn't have the speed. Ferry is different for sure. But I'm taking a patient outlook on him. I actually want him to succeed, and hope he can have good luck as well. I'll wait and reserve judgement until the season is done. I can agree with most of this. He will have the microscope on him and the ridicule will still come without results. I’m of the opinion the results will come. He will have consistency in his program and the finishes will get better.

Or know enough about looking at the big picture of this sport and able to connect some dots on how gnarly it is. And yes, I love the kid and family. Good people. The sport is gnarly, you are only as good as your last race.

Yeah, I think you can make it make sense too if you actually thought about it. Maybe his contractual obligation didn’t allow him to race the “other” brands. Maybe going to Loretta’s was a last minute decision to go because everyone knew he needed to be racing. Hasn’t had a gate drop since Loretta’s last year where he went as a contracted Triumph rider on a Gas Gas (provided by triumph due to bikes not released) as a last minute decision to just get behind a gate at a big race.
