A lot of people always miss the point of threads like this 😂
You mean World Champion James Dobb? One world title wonder, maybe
Good one yeah. He just came to mind
I said I forgot about those other wins! Damn, throw me down a flight of stairs why don’t ya? 😂

I mentioned him on the first page.
Back in the good ol days when PC ruled the 250 class, helmet cams weren't banned and enjoyed watching them on YouTube after every race, baggy gear, external chest protectors, and badass Eleven10 bikes. Bring it back?
Back in 85 I believe, Donny Schmit was sort of an unknown. I know he had success at Ponca , KOC as an amateur but not a big name at the time.
That year we went to Millville and were roaming the pits when someone in our group asked one of the factories riders of they had ever heard of Donny Schmit. To our surprise he hadnt.
Anybody that was around moto at that time in Minnesota knew who he was.
Donny did go out that day and won the overall, iirc going 1-1.
Back then without the web, it would honestly take 2 months before you knew results from any race. AMA had their newspaper that went out to members and it was there or the magazines where we would hear who won.
So the group I was with thought it was his first national he competed in but looking back now he had started the national season from the beginning.
Needless to say, the crowd at Millville that year was going nuts. He repeated thw following year.
And on a side note, the previous year was my first year racing. I had a yz 100. My very first lap of practice after making the left at Bobs corner, I was navigating my way over that first jump when another rider side swiped me and knocked us both to the ground. That rider ran over to me apologizing and said he didnt mean to hit me. “I rolled the jump”. At the same time my friends came running over while I was looking over my bike when they were like “dude, you crashed Donny Schmit”.
WTF was Donny Schmit I thought. Well, after that I knew who he was.
I’m still watching the full moto GoPro vids. We definitely need to go back. It’s the only way forward.
My bad, brother 😂
Was my bad to begin with! lol no worries brother. 😂
Sully originally called me out and rightfully so. Always cheered for Dobb back in the day.👍
96 Red Bud on a Rm125. I closed up the bar at the hotel team managers , mechanics where in there then we hung out at the pool. I was behind him trying to get a key in the morning. He’s kinda of big for a 125. Was in his pit too he had no pressure washer . On espn he said he doesn’t hv a practice bike . Just show up & race
That was it! Thanks prof. His outlook and humble nature are why I became a fan. Cool ass dude.
What were stand out rides? Seemed like Leblanc was already burnt out that season.
I don’t consider Sheak a 1 hit wonder . He finished 3rd in 97 with quite a few 2nd,3,rds & moto wins on privateer rm125,s too. Cool guy the riders really liked him
After that '23 season I fully expected him to come back and be one of the guys to beat for the title, but man that '24 season was so bad. Hopefully he gets back to title contender form.
I’m actually not really sure, all i remember is romano up front for a few races on star.
I think he and Leblanc were running pretty well at Millville in '22/'23 when they got together and ended each other's seasons.
He def doesn't count a "One hit wonder" , but Thomas Covington's time in the sport seems unique. Like in terms of how an athlete's career took off and then inscrutably collapsed at the peak seems confounding.
Pit Row
Southwick used to have a local breakout occasionally. Probably more than any other track. Makes sense Barton ran fast there but didn’t really show any results elsewhere. That’s far from a dig. It’s the magic of Southwick.
High Point, 1997. I was there. RC choked in the mud. Sheak smoked ‘em all.
Dobb won an overall in 1993 at Unadilla. That was the day the track was super dusty and everyone dnf’ed one or both motos. Dobb didn’t and got the overall.
Dylan Ferrandis
Hasn't Dylan finished top 5 in every motocross series he has ever competed in since his first 250 championship nearly a decade ago?
Not to mention 2021 AMA 450 Motocross Champ.
2020 AMA 250 Motocross Champ
6 career AMA Pro Motocross Championship 450 Wins
9 career AMA Pro Motocross Championship 250 Wins
2017 AMA 250SX Rookie of the Year

🤷♂️
Dude has quite a few hits over a long time period, for sure.
And most of his non-home-run hits are all solid doubles.
that was Thrasher and Romano at Millville '22. I don't remember a whole lot about Leblanc that season, someone mentioned that he ran upfront that same race though.
MARK BLACKWELL - 500 National Champ
RICK BURGETT - 1978 500 National Champ
BILL NILSSON - 1st 5oo World MX Champion
Reedy may have put a good word in, but both Anderson and Michael Byrne scored US rides in 2003 after the Australian team of Reedy, Ando and Byrner won the World Cup of MX at Glen Helen in 2002.
Hunter Lawrence ? Just feels like he never wins.
Mentioned earlier, but Rick Ryan has to be near the top. Daytona SX winner.
