It will be interesting to use this as a litmus test for greed for our favorite companies. Hypothetical example:
OEM A has a landed cost of a 250f of $4800, Dealer cost pre tariff $7900, MSRP $8999.
Nice guy OEM says “ok, if the tariff is now 20%, the landed cost from Japan is now $5760, but our warranty, tech support, warehouse, etc., etc. are all the same, so we increase the dealer cost by the $960 or close to it.” This scenario sees the price increase by 12% based on the numbers above.
The alternative, and we’re seeing it with some smaller powersports brands (think Chinese pit bike & go kart stuff) is “welp, 20% tariff means price goes up 20% as well.” Without acknowledging true unit cost imported is only a fraction of what they have to charge the dealer. So the $7900 dealer cost jumps to $9480, and MSRP follows suit similarly.
I guess you like the United States being taken advantage of?🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ Because that’s what is happening!!!
Tariffs are a negotiating tool and worked well for Trump in his 1st term. In 30 days this all goes away.
Im willing to load up 12 new bikes in my trailer and haul them to Trump Kingdom for a nice profit. My low canadian dollar and tarrif free bikes could be a gold mine.

You’re saying that you’re willing to have your hard earned dollar get you less to potentially stick it to other countries? You are willing to sacrifice your money for an unknown endgame?
The biggest thing the US exports is debt, billions every year.
Want to bet?
We pay 10% on earnings, and 10% on spendings. Its sickening.
Then why do other countries have them
Dude I was priced out of the sport pre tarrifs I'm just glad I have other hobbies besides moto.
lol we are not being taken advantage of when we buy products from countries that make products US citizens don’t want to make. There is also a trade imbalance because the countries are much poorer than us so they can’t afford to purchase US products. But keep feeling good about these decisions being made, I’m sure it’s going to work out great
No, you are wrong I am right. My opinion is all that matters! Don’t you know? 😂
That can't be true. Trump is only charging half of the reciprocal tariffs. Vietnam is 46% so clearly they have a 92% tariff on the US. Does this mean the Nike boot dream is over?
Only an idiot could bankrupt a casino...
I think he owned more than 1 in Atlantic City. I went on a double date there we drove down from Phily. We just walked threw the Trump casino with a gaudy looken lion etc. a lot of machines had broken glass . I heard he turned all the machines off & people where pissed. No I did not put a 20 in. We just checked it out . It looked bad. On a positive used bike sales will probably be great. Remember all u need is a 89 cr125 . Pic Donny Schmidt winning a moto. Larry Ward won Southwick , Mx Kied the championship. . McGrath,s 1st pro bike he bought with his own money, Mike Brown
still flies on 1. Watch 125 racing will be Huge this summer. For Great or the best handling look no further than the 04 cr125.
LOL, 92%!
Check it out yourself...

You mean the "moto is cheap compared to other forms of motorpsorts" mantra doesn't magically make things more affordable for you?
I guess you're just another one of those who isn't willing to "support the industry".
So much for being "core".
If you dont give your firstborn to the sport, do you even really support the sport anyways?

Perhaps Trump doesn't understand what a tariff is? I have my suspicions..
A tariff is placed on the importer not the exporter. It's an additional X per cent tax placed on whatever goods they are bringing in. Sure, it's raises revenue for the said country implementing the tariffs but it also invariable raises the costs of goods for the consumer (in this case American consumers) because the additional cost is passed onto them. Additionally, if it's used as a form of protectionism it tends to stifle innovation as companies (in this case American companies) no longer have to compete with firms from overseas. Witness the state of American car manufacturing due to tariffs placed on Japanese imports.
As I've said before no economists worth their salt support protectionism of this sort. I would also add the US is supposed to be the home of the free, including free market capitalism. This policy is far from that.
Invariably because of pressure from noncompetitive groups within the countries concerned. Witness France and it's farmers. If it weren't for heavy protectionism they could not compete with superior and cheaper products from overseas. However, the farmer's as a group have a lot of political clout - hence protection for them while their economy as a whole suffers.
It’s not that we don’t want to make the products, it’s that we cannot afford to make them at a competitive price. Largely due to government interference and unintended consequences in the market.
There are people out there still thinking the left column had anything to do with tariffs imposed on the US by hostile countries.
To be fair that's understandable given it was entitled "Tariffs charged to the USA including currency manipulation and trade barriers".
This had been debunked so quick that trade department had to refute it the next day, this has nothing to do with tariffs imposed on the US nor countries taking advantage of the US, it's a simple formula based on 2024 trade balance.
Nice little explainer here:
https://ustr.gov/issue-areas/reciprocal-tariff-calculations
TLDR
Applying half of these values, that are not a tariff to begin with, as "discounted reciprocal tariffs" is nothing like reciprocal nor discounted.
It's about punishing countries that sell more than they buy to the US. That's it. That's why top of the list, the "worst offenders" with 40-50% tariffs are: Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Myanmar, Laos, Lesotho, Mauritius, Falkland islands, Syria and St Pierre et Miquelon. Low wage and/or tiny countries from whom the US buys a lot of cheap stuff but who themselves can't possibly buy more American cars or products because they are poor (or they have 6000 inhabitants like St Pierre).
By the way if Russia hadn't been magically exempted they would be up there at 41% given the huge US trade deficit with Russia.
The reality is:
Countries applying 0 tariff to the US (like Australia) get 10% tariff.
Countries whom with the US has a trade surplus get 10% tariff.
Industrialized countries applying moderate 1-5% US tariffs get 20% (EU) or 24% (Japan) tariff.
Low wage countries with whom the US has huge trade deficit get 40-50% tariffs
Now if you think so, could you please cite which countries are currently applying crazy high tariffs to the US or explain how the new huge taxes to be paid by US consumers are going to help US get lower tariffs or increase US exports or build more US factories? Is this going to help HD build (and sell !) dirt bikes and sport bikes?
The fact that Cambodia has been bullying the UNITED STATES for years is hilarious.
Allied to the dark forces of Madagascar and Falkland islands!
I think what people discount in these Tariff negotiations, which is what they are, is that the USA is a huge consumer market to the rest of the world. The current administration simply wants products made in this country treated fairly internationally. Other countries will do most anything to sell products here, many country's economies depend upon the USA's buying power. These counter tariffs are simply an attempt to open markets, negotiations have not worked, maybe this will. I find it interesting that not only our own citizens sense of entitlement, but other countries sense of entitlement towards our government. It is bad enough that we are the world's policeman, but to call on the USA to aid every catastrophe, and not allow our products to be sold in many other countries is salt in wounds.
I mean, if it was good enough for Ba'al...
So, now that things have gotten more expensive, making MX even more affordable compared to other motorsports, what other bikes do you plan to add to your garage? Personally, I plan to pick up some sweet Kove WEs.
At this rate, it won't be long before you (and the rest of us by association) will be so rich we'll all be Brazilianaires. 👍
Here’s a novel Idea fellow Americans- BUY less shit!! The best thing we can do for our society ( not biz ) is to stop buying needless shit. We all do it. 99% of people who use aftermarket parts don’t need them - they want them
Buying things you don’t need with money you don’t have to impress people you don’t know - US 100%
If that were true, why are there tariffs being placed on countries that have (had) free trade agreements with the US and don’t tariff US products?
You sound reasonable so I have some questions and 2 examples for you.
First, a couple days before this show, USTR released its 2025 National Trade Estimate Report that you can find here
https://ustr.gov/about/policy-offices/press-office/press-releases/2025/…
In it they say EU imposes an average tariff of 5%, Vietnam average tariff is a little higher at 12%.
That's a far cry from the 39% and 80% claimed later, simply because these crazy high values have nothing to do with tariffs, it's just trade deficit divided by imports.
So now the US slams 20% tariff on EU, a tariff at least 4 times higher than what EU imposes on US. What is this supposed to achieve, how would this incite EU to lower their 5% tariff?
US has huge trade deficit with Vietnam purely because its companies and customers take advantage of low wages and low production costs. Vietnam average tariff of 12% will likely be slashed to 0, go 'merica. How does this benefit US consumers? How does this benefit US exports, will Vietnamese suddenly be able to afford $40k American cars and $100 trainers? How does this make it worth for Nike to manufacture clothing and shoes in the US?
Apparently not all the economists considering every other country has tarriffs against American products.
And don't tell me that the Euro VAT is not a tarriff. It has the exact same effect. I would know.
