Interesting. That gen of YZF was actually 1 of my favorite. The motor was obviously down on power by that time, but I had mine fully built and a fast motor with that chassis and bodywork was actually amazing. I miss that bike.
A mate had one that a few of us borrowed to race when we had issues with our own bikes from time to time. We nicknamed it the unicorn, it handled amazingly and it was good for anyone that threw a leg over it!

1984 Cagiva WMX 250, 190CC non power valve Italian POS. Wouldn't turn and shook like crazy going straight. The last time I woke up from riding it I sold it for almost nothing to get it out of my life.
Then two Pulp shows ago I hear Matthis negotiating with some collector to buy one for his studio??
I hope Steve doesn't ride it, he'll die.

That’s funny I’m surprised Steve wants one did they say what year it was he was trying buy ? They’re pretty cool looking bikes the 1987 looks ahead of it’s time

98’ CR250. That bike caused me a ton of injuries!

'92 RM 250. Violent hit with terrible suspension. Seemed to coil up after two bumps, hit the third one and it would unwind, but never the same way. Huge swappers and puckering headshake. 1986 YZ 250 was a close second

I liked the '86 better, drop in's broke the '85 frame in half. Taco'd multiple rims too. DMC took good care of the 1986 model.

04 KXF250 - I never once felt comfortable on that bike. To this day I’ve never rode a bike that felt so unbalanced.

There are only two kinds of bikes, good and better.

07 RMZ 450 -

Honestly I enjoyed the bike, but the amount of money we dropped into that bike to keep it running was astonishing.

We could not stop that bike from over heating….

My father in law stepped in when he thought I was doing something wrong on the maintenance and took it to his mechanic. Made it one moto before it over heated.

Then we Swapped the radiator, put oversized caps, all new lines, etc. Made it all of another moto before it over heated….father in law, fully perplexed, paid to have the bike ran through top to bottom. Replaced anything that looked even slightly a miss or could have anything to do with the bike getting too hot….made it half a moto.

When back to the mechanic, and his exact words were “either throw the bike away, or burn it”

How about a 1955 Triumph Tiger Cub 200cc. I never raced it but it was my first dirt bike back in 1968. It was good for learning on but I was always working on it. Not such a great dirt bike but I was 12 and it was fun.

Yeah the Triumph wasn't so great but neither was my second bike. A1964 Honda CB160 twin. A street bike I took all the street stuff off and mounted the forks off the Triumph. Rode it for a couple years 1970/71.

This bike really polarises people. Ivan smoked everyone on it for 2 years. Most hate it. But except for the worst forks ever, I loved mine. It was an '05, but basically same bike.

2006 KTM 250EXC.

Forks were junk, PDS tries to kill you in anything above 2nd gear whooped out trail, vibrated like a mofo, welds looked worse than child labor, subframe was made of tin, the engine was the most gutless and slow thing I’ve ever tried to ride, Magura hydro clutch didn’t engage until you had the lever all the way to the grip, ergos were weird, and the bike just felt extremely top heavy and unpredictable.

Runner up was a 2007 KTM450SXF my pops bought brand new for my brother, my dad tricked it all out with tons of KTM SXS stuff and what not. Took it to Dade city MX with 5 hours on it and it died in both motos and wouldn’t refire. Put a couple motos on it at home and it was fine so we drove all the way to muddy creek MX for some big race and it stalled on him on one of the big triples and he got a little banged up from it, wouldn’t refire once again. He wound up racing his old 1998 YZ125 in the 450 classes since my dad and him had lost all faith in it. Traded it for his first truck like two weeks later.

Dad swore he would never waste another cent on a KTM, then when I got to 125s he really liked the idea of the 150SX, we bought a 2016 125 and 150 and they have been been absolutely flawless bikes for the amount of hours and abuse I’ve put on them. Seriously impressive how far that brand has come in the last decade or two.

The 450 still hurts, because it was one of my all time favorite looking bikes and with the FMF SXS exhaust that thing barked so hard. I will always remember the few times my brother was able to rip that thing and how good it sounded.

I had a new 2002 TM 400 4stroke, wanted to buy a 250 or 300MX but ended up with this instead. The chassis was good, other than the high footpegs, Fastway pegs on the low position helped there. The engine was frequently a nightmare to start when hot but that’s got nothing to do with your 250.

What didn't you like about the 01 KX 125?
I was born in 2001, in 2019 i bought a 01 kx125 and rode it a few times when my 19 kxf 250 was under maintenance, it was a really funny bike.
Power was all on the top end but what would you expect from a +20yrs 125.
Also, it was a little charged on the front end but... overall i liked it!
Sold it after 4 months, too expensive to maintain 2 bikes.

82 YZ 80 was just as bad, Nothing like racing with a pint of water bolted to the handlebars for handling. Funny, by the end of a moto, it handled so much better......

Wasn't a huge fan of my 2006 KTM 250SX. Put a 300SX top end and 38mm carb (stock 36mm on 250), and eventually thought I liked it more in the woods then MX track.

That's funny I had a near similar experience I had this totally tricked pro circuit modded 86 cr125. Had been riding for the past 2 years. Saved up for a 01 cr125. The 86 was faster. I traded the 01 cr125 in for a 02 yz125. Nearly looped it first ride hitting this jump for the first time like I would on the cr.

Wish I still had that 86 now.
87 cr125 was quite a bit better, except for breaking the shock in the whoops. My least favorite was a 98 yz250 I bought new. The front end twisted in the applied t clamp stuffing it into rutted corners. And the front end felt really light. Clutch was weak to. Fun to play on ,the power was ok. A lot of 97,98 cr250 on here. I thought the engine was great, easy to jump triples on 1st lap , cornered good. It went where you pointed it tho and it was stiff feeling compared to my 97 Noleen yz125.

OK.
I was letting this go waiting for the post. It hasn't come.

The 1973 AT125 Yamaha.
What a piece of absolute crap.

I don't think details are necessary.
