Having the gear made is the cheap part. The expensive parts are designing the gear, testing, artwork, marketing, freight, warehousing, distribution. FXR pays for all of these steps and if they stopped doing it there would be nothing to be counterfeited. it’s a lose-lose for FXR and if more people keep buying the knock-off stuff they’re not going to stay...

Tortelli won the opener in 1998. Before, he failed to qualify in the 125cc category twice in 1995. And rode his first 250 main event in 1997.

Tortelli won his first and only SX main at the season opener in 96, his only AMA races prior to that were two 125 SX’s and a 250SX in 95. Technically not a rookie, but worth mentioning.

I remember with mine when you were on the throttle it just wanted to stand up and go straight, you really had to point and shoot in the corners and use wheelspin to keep the bike turning if you got on it early. Trying to lay the bike down into a rut and roll on the throttle was not something...

Hakan (hand me some bloody sunnies!) doing some metal melting : And, Billy Liles circa 1991 at, I would think, a Dutch GP = Sand and a Big Tank - on a Perimeter framer : Billy spent a Lot of years on the GP circuit, something, it seems, few Americans know. He, like Gary Semics, could tell some pretty good stories about their careers. Gary has done so, on his website, and, I think here on Vital a while back. I wish he would publish his journey through MX, in a book.

Keep in mind the standard KX500 frame was about as stable as you could possibly make a chassis. Getting them to turn was the challenge.

Wow, nice work, that looks great! The 01's were one of my favorite years, they just looked fast sitting still. If you're looking for any NOS OEM parts I have all sorts of stuff that is out of production from graphics kits to swingarms back to the 90's.

Have you looked at the Patagonia, AZ area east of Nogales? Not far from Tuscon but it’s in the mountains and gets a lot more precipitation. Cheap, nice scenery, small quaint towns, lots of history. Nice temperate climate all year round.

30 years in manufacturing and you don’t think quality control would catch a bunch of shit welds from the drunk guy, shit can his ass and find someone way more professional about their trade to do the job? My current bike is a TM which is about as hand made as any dirt bike is going to get and I can 100% assure you that every aspect of that bike whether it be the frame, gear box or the rear shock is top notch.
