I would bet a $1 he has no memory of this race or his crash.
So many assumptions, he has full memory and no symptoms of concussion.

The worrying thing is seeing the Asterisk crew trying to help him onto his bike when he's clearly concussed and can't even stand up straight. It reminded me of James when he crashed at Daytona and fell trying to get back onto his bike and they were like rushing him to get back on the bike. I'm surprised teams, the AMA and Asterisk aren't taking more strict stances on head injuries for their riders. At the end of the day, championships aren't that important if you risk hitting your head again and turning into a vegetable.

I raced, from the age of 4/5/6 years old in Arizona, Thursday night Thrasherland practices on a 60, getting multiple concussions and "waking up" with the flagger helping me while I'm also gasping for air because i also knocked the wind out myself...at least 5 times before the age of 9...

amateur career, from 10 years old to 17, I raced every amateur national every year. from battling with the top guys multiple years I had my fair share of big get-offs... I had at least 10 more concessions during this 7-8 year period, approx. 5 of them I woke up hours later.... once time at Cooperland Loretta qualifier, I crashed, outcome was I woke up on i-35 in wichita.. that's a solid 2 hours down the highway...

i now go to the doctors multiple times a week and suffer from multiple different sides effects i would never wish upon my worst enemy... one i'll publicly speak about is.... Just happens to be, we can't even get my Testosterone to stay above 200... I tested at 186 5 weeks ago again... OPTIMAL is like 600-800...

The point of my post is..... Sexton got fucked up... Blair helped because he's talking to the public on TV, but he was on flat ground and couldn't get on his bike-multiple trys. They bring the camera BACK to him, and he's stumbling and the medical crew is trying to hang on to him... CRAZY

Going to be a MEGA problem if Chase Sexton is on the starting line next weekend, or for many weekends after. Let's see if supercross takes concussions as seriously as they need to because that was just embarrassing and we never see change. Any guesses on what they will do? I bet he lines up next weekend.

Have you based your post on anything other than the TV coverage?

I have had a few concussions....after which I could hardly concentrate and could have dozed off at any time. For months.

I remember watching a race on tv years ago where a dude on a Honda yard sale'd and the dude behind on a Kawasaki almost ran his head over. This whole story sounds eerily familiar...

ive been knocked out once where i remembered everything. wouldnt have guessed i was even knocked out until my brother told me after my moto. I got up and rode the rest of the race overjumping everything.. Ive also had a small concussion where i didnt feel good and drove home. one turn onto highway and straight home, no turns. kept thinking i was lost, knew i was messed up, but made it home fine. they are all different.

What kind of qualifications does it take to be part of the medical crew at the races?
David Pingree should have some good insight, I think he did some sort if internship as part of his training to become a firefighter.
You cannot judge from a single incident but the one that really shocked me were the pictures of Brian Moreau being dragged of the track. There may have been reasons for why Brian was handled that way but to see him get heaved off the track light that made me seriously question the level of training those guys had.

After listening to Chase on Pulp, he seems to be taking it seriously. The guy was just racing for 20 minutes, it's normal to be out of sorts after something like that, even if you have not hit your head.

BTW, Dale Jr has an excellent podcast about concussions, his own concussions, his symptoms, diagnosis and why he retired from racing.

He is very open about head trauma, concussions and CTE
Some excellent information on that podcast. Earnhardt Jr also has a book on his experience with concussions. He has spent a lot of time (as the subject) researching head injuries, and lingering effects of concussions. (Pastrana's experiences were very similar on WTS.) Earnhardt talked about racing superspeedways (after being cleared); said that his brain/muscle reaction time was not right. (It appeared that James Stewart had similar issues in his last Supercross at Atlanta; a lot more obvious in SX than auto racing.) This is an interesting and informative thread.

Chase said basically the opposite of what you're saying. Chase said he argued and argued to let him finish the race even to the point he was trying to run away from them. He said he even has to apologize to them afterwards. I don't think anyone was helping him try and get back out there. They were trying to keep him from riding again.

Obviously you have Dr. Bodnar. It's obvious what his qualifications are. As for the rest of the med staff they have, they are required to be experienced paramedics with a valid national registry card

The TV coverage was just about a first person view of it. Chase said on Pulp he remembers everything but it sure looked like he could barely get his chest and arms to lift. Thats a big difference between Freise getting wobbled like a poke on the jaw. He’s going to be quick to feel fine again being a 22y/o professional athlete but jeez that didn’t look like just “being in shock”. The self control just to take a recovery day is tough, I can only image the draw from all that comes with a 450sx win/ title fight hard to blame him for wanting to get back at er.

After listening to Pastrana talk about concussions on WTS and what he's learned from the experts, theres a lot of armchair doctoring going on here. He said essentially every person is different, you can lightly bounce your head on the wall and get a serious concussion, or lawn dart and be fine, but there is still a ton to learn.

Did it "look" like he knocked himself silly from the couch? Yes, but I will put more faith in what Doc Bodnar sees from actually being there and talking to Chase, who he sees every weekend and would know if something was off. If he is concussed badly, then I'm sure they will take the appropriate precautions with what we know now. If he passed protocols, then I won't be screaming conspiracy from the sidelines. Chase himself has said he gets very emotional in situations like that, it could have been him freaking out over crashing himself out of a win and championship contention. Or maybe he was in fact delirious. None of us know for sure, only the people who were there and trained to know the signs. I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion but it's what I think.

I just listened to the WTS with Pastrana yesterday. I was happy they touched on all the concussions he's had and the testing he's had done in recent years. Maybe we're both being naive but I'm with you in putting my trust in Doc Bodner to look out for these guys health
I haven’t had time to watch it. But I did listen to Travis talk about concussions. I heard his last national at Millville where he pulled off. He was going unconscious while racing. Travis talked about a fmx rider doing a trick when he landed on the air bad he was knocked out. He jumped again with out crashing and was knocked out. This time his brain fluid was rushing out of his nose. I had this happen with not hitting my head at 42. Brain fluid rushes out of your nose like bath tub faucet. 5-9 yrs old I had aprox 90 ko,s from my Dad. At 6 I got 4 rt in a row. At 5-9 when you shut your eyes to sleep . You see thin bright white flashes and a lot of bright white skinny triangles. Of course the sustained ring in your head for hrs or days. I went from no glasses to having glasses near sided to bifocals far sided in 2 yrs. to not needing bifocals at 10. I,m part naitive American so we can take a hit really good. Like get ko,d and a second later we jump up. I,m sure I hv some damage but I max out what I hv. I write alot even if I only wait 10 min for a dock , I,ll write poetry or songs. Learn new languages often. The schedule of 2 months straight pushing 20-25 hrs 7 days a week without a day off. Extremely physical my upper body is more sore than being in a car wreck. My 10 hr break was 3 hrs . Both my ears where ringing super loud when I crashed out. I think I,m done here junk equipt has my whole body spasiming . I only drink water with a muscle recover powder aprox 1 gal a day. The body is something else on how hard you can push it. But remember the brain controls the body.

After listening to Chase on Pulp, he seems to be taking it seriously. The guy was just racing for 20 minutes, it's normal to be out of sorts after something like that, even if you have not hit your head.
How is he taking it seriously?

He fought & argued with the on-track medical crew.

He tried to remount his bike and finish the race after hitting his head.

He didn't even go see a doctor after the event. He admitted on air that his only concussion protocol screening was a brief skype call with a neurologist. No scans, no in-person cognitive testing, no plans mentioned for follow up tests in the upcoming weeks, etc.

And then he was back on the road bike working out on Monday.

We know for a fact some athletes can pass concussion protocol but still potentially have a head injury. At some point we have to say it's not up to the rider to decide what's best. There's a massive conflict of interest there.
