MCR Official Statement Regarding Friese/Craig Incident at Glendale Supercross

2/9/2022 1:19pm
I kinda laugh when people go back and watch it slow motion. VF is not riding in slow motion. But it’s not about the Craig debockle, it’s about VF’s riding like an idiot, wait, I mean riding a crafty style. Hard to pass, taking inside lines, cross jumping, etc. Call it what you want. When he hurts someone the penalty may be different. I do love his probation, that must really hurt.

So Breece gets fined $???.?? For his pass on 7DD, and VF has no fine? WOW, a struggling privateer driving to each race now has pay fine. And it’s funny that ever commercial shows all the crashes involving controversy. I say they make a rule that if a rider gets fined or put on probation, they can not air that portion of the race in any commercial or pre race ceremony. Weston Peick beat down of VF has been shown way to much, but I love watching it. LOL

Damage control. Kinda necessary.
Vince is managing to tarnish the whole team's "look" and reputation. (Their engine builder is golden tho 😂)
Geneva ignores the fact that if you mention the name Vince Friese to any rider in the AMA pits, the vast majority of them will cringe.
It's really about a PATTERN of behavior and a bad reputation earned over many, many years, not JUST this one incident. VF is a habitual offender.
Already heard some of the 450 guys grumbling about him joining their ranks shortly, and they haven't even raced with him yet this year....

Not much else they can say. They, and their sponsors, are taking a lot of flack and that could impact support going forward. That said, the 250 class is a development (or it was) class. Lots of faster riders than VF there but, they all line up behind him because they know what to expect when passing him.

Not a lot to say or do, riders in the pits (i don't know many) know the score. Reputation among riders is earned and all he's done is put the magnifying glass on himself the rest of the series. Can't see a scenario where this ends well.

I watched the replay a dozen times in super slow mo and freeze framing it as I went to the point of contact.

My conclusion was he was battling for the lead, brain farted and came in too hot, had ZERO option of trying to make a move for the inside line, split second decision takes him into the outside line where he tried to stay inside of Craig. Momentum took him into Craig and they both ate shit. I never saw any intent to take Craig out. Since nobody here has it ever will be battling for the lead in a SX I don’t think any of us can relate to the split second decision making in the heat of battle.

I don’t recall hearing Craig or his team going ballistic over the incident. I’m sure they watched replays and saw what happened and dismissed it as a unfortunate racing incident.
For conversation, let's say you're right. Riders sometimes put themselves in bad situations or just run out of talent.
And if this was/is an isolated event, we all would say dumb f#@&I ass move and then we all move on. The problem is that this is a regular event with this guy so you have to look at it differently. And if you look at the pattern you have to conclude something beyond probation needs to be done.

I don't think I've had enough of arguing/anger over the past 2-6 years. I sure hope we can all still find ways to be angry at each other next weekend.

Genova, Alessi and Friese all deserve one another. The skullduggery that has surrounded them over the years is no accident, it's all calculated. I'm surprised they can find any sponsors that are interested in being part of that particular circus.

The trio of Genova, Pa Alessi and Friese are perfect together. I wonder if they just go through life lying about everything all day long. That description of the event is so ridiculously not what happened. Just clueless but I heard what it’s like when you talk to Friese. A blank stare. I went in the MC website and looked under “news” last night and the top clip was from 2015. Way to self promote.

From Mike Genova:

I felt it necessary to address the incident involving MCR rider Vince Friese and Star Yamaha rider Christian Craig during this past weekend’s race in Glendale, AZ.

After close review by the MCR team and AMA, it has been agreed upon that while Vince’s line choice in the sand was not the smartest, there was no intent or malice in colliding with Christian. This is evidenced in the video replay that shows Vince braking hard, causing his rear wheel to slide and ultimately making contact with Christian.

That said, the entire MCR team and I are relieved that Christian wasn’t injured in the crash but also remorseful for how things transpired in Glendale last Saturday for all parties involved. Vince has personally contacted Christian to address the situation and express there was absolutely zero intent to make contact or knock Christian out of the race.

MCR understands that Christian is the premier rider in the 250 West class and is easily favored to win week in and week out. As the team owner, I want to make it very clear that in no way do I endorse, promote, or agree with any malicious or dirty act of conduct by my riders on or off the track. Our goal as a team is not to take out the current points leader and hope things turn out good, but to get great starts, race hard and clean, and secure the best results possible.

While there are varying opinions and perceptions of MCR and Vince Friese, those who know us know our commitment to professionalism is first and foremost. Our team is always striving to provide exemplary representation for our sponsors.
Mike, let me fix that last sentence in the 4th paragraph for you.

Our goal is to get great starts, secure the best results possible by racing hard and clean without taking anyone out including ourselves.

Race raft starts at the truck. TM’s should talk possible scenarios, plan of action and possible outcomes.

Except he took that same line multiple times after the incident…

How's anyone dragging Tony into this? He's earned the grief he's gotten in the past but for all accounts has been a good team manager over there. He did some dumb shit years ago though, many years actually. Fuck him, he's not allowed to grow as a person right?

At the end of the day, ethics don’t really matter, sponsors want coverage and results.. I bet no one at smart top even saw the crash...

I had a friend when I was young who just couldn't stay out of trouble. Fights at school, cussing out teachers, etc...His Dad would defend everything. According to the Dad, it was never my friends fault. It reached total absurdity sometimes.

This press release reminds me of that.
