It’s really not that cool. A bunch of dudes with big egos that think they are somebody. The most least physically demanding sport in the world. Argue with me… I don’t care. I have lived it for the last 13 years on a professional level. And yes…. Maybe I’m a little burned out.

As a former motocross racer turned drag racer, drag racing is awesome. In my days of racing motocross, i never would have thought driving in a straight line for 1/4 mile would be so much fun. I bracket race at a local level mostly, and it usually pays about $1,000 to win every saturday and sunday that they race. How many "hobbies" do people have that they can actually win money at? On the big stage of bracket racing in 2020, there were 2 races that guaranteed $1,000,000 to win! And im not talking John Force in a nitro funny car. But from my experience if you have to explain the idea of bracket racing to someone, they will probably never get it. Its a different world from what people see on tv like street outlaws. If you have a drag strip in your area, go check it out and support it.

Ive done both. Both can be addictive! You can get that same feeling on the line for both types of racing, its all about the competitive spirit! I was actually glad when my son started racing moto, as I had just had a 100k plus car ping pong across both lanes and hit both walls at the track... Somehow supermini's looked a lot cheaper!!

Moto is expensive but ain't got crap on big time drag racing lol!!

I've worked in the motorsports industry for 8 years now. Heads up drag racing is badass.

If anyone has the opportunity to go to one of Ducks races I would highly recommend it.

If you want to make a million dollars drag racing, start with TWO million!!!
By far the the most expensive sport I have been involved in. My wife always said it made her more nervous to watch me go 0-100 in 2 seconds and 200+ mph in a drag car than any MX or roadrace I’ve ever competed in.
Adrenaline can be very addictive and expensive!!!

I was at Lebanon Valley Dragway spectating last Sunday. I have a Blown 66 Nova that I run once in awhile, but haven't in a few years because I've been pretty committed to Moto here in New England.
I enjoy the drags but I keep myself from jumping into the fray 100%. There are guys who spend $20k to gain a few tenths. No thanks.

I don’t think it matters if you understand cars. Remember, I’m talking real drag racing, not index crap, even though it’s cool for the guy in the car.

For me, I dig grudge and no prep racing.

I started going to the drag races at Orange County International Raceway with my dad in the seventies when I was a youngster. Always been a fan. We have a '67 Dodge Coronet that we take out to the strip once in a while and always have a great time. All motor 440 that runs low elevens.

I went bracket racing with a buddy once, 4 trips down the track in a 13 second car and we stood around for 4 hours. You think moto is bad at wasting time. Holy Crap that was boring.

Went to the European finals a few weeks ago, never seen anything as insane as the top fuel and funny cars. Everything about them is just crazy.

I took my Mach 1 to the drags in high school. Street class. Got a check in the mail a week later for $8. Didn’t want to cash it cuz it had a cool dragster logo on it.

Have you ever got a check from racing dirt bikes?

E Town was the best! Race or practice all day and hit the drags at nigh. Some of those guys (and girls) need proverbial wheelbarrows to carry em around In!

Not really. Local mx races are about the kids. Any rider over the age of 18 that races locally only should know their ship has sailed. I was referring to people like the street outlaws. They have pro mod cars on the street which is all made for tv bs. And when they show up to a real pro mod race, they can’t even qualify. Or like top fuel and funny car racers that really don’t do anything but hit the gas. They have no control over what the car is going to run E.T. wise. The car is set up by the crew and crew chief. All they have to do is cut a light and not drive it out of the groove. But these drivers have these massive egos. I have spent some time with Mark Kelly (astronaut and senator) at the race track and he was way more humble and down to earth than the driver I was working for.

In the late 70,s the jet cars where a big thing. I prefer to hear a race engine tho. I used to want a drag car that needed a parachute thought that would b cool.

. My neighbor was huge into drag racing Volkswagens, he took my dad, brother and I to Irwindale, I was a little guy, he bought me this.

Here’s one you might like, have you seen the semi trucks drag racing? Pulling a loaded trailer down the track. So much torque they lift the left front tire. YouTube it. lol

This coming weekend on Oct 1 and 2 Im going to the drags for the first time in 40 yrs. Man am I ever looking forward to it.Im going to the "Duct Tape drags" at the "new" Tucson Dragway. David Freiburger of Hot Rod mag and all things Roadkill is putting it on. Pretty much all the Roadkill guys will all be there too in addition to folks doing the ole "run what you brung" thing. The last time I went to the drag races was in '81, my Senior year in HS . My Mom let me play hookie from school so I could go on both Friday and on Saturday. She was the greatest Mom ever ! It was AHRA Winter Nationals at the old Tucson Dragway. My friend and I went every year. Sadly it was the year that Garlits team mate Marvin Schwartz blew a front tire on his TFer in the lights and had a violent crash in which he was killed. I was standing not more than 4 feet from where his car flew off the track. I was at the very end of the the spectator area with only a 4 foot chain link fence between the spectator area and the rest of the track .Looking back, I guess things were not quite as "safe" as they probably are now. I loved the fuelers, altereds, pro stocks and such but I also loved watching the bracket cars, street legal cars and bikes Sadly my Mom died after a long battle with cancer a few weeks after the '81 Winter nationals that I attended and it took all the air out of my sails. I spent the next few years trying to find a way to put some of the pieces of life back together for me and my Dad after Mom died and I never went to the drags again. I have missed the sights, sounds and smells that go with the drags. I cant wait !

I dragraced bikes on and off for years, it starts off fairly inexpensively, then as the desire to go faster takes over, it gets real expensive. I've raced everything from stock street bikes to purpose built dragbikes, if you want to go fast and do well, it can be extremely expensive. Somewhere in there, I road raced a few years, that was even more expensive, not hard to spend $500 on a weekend if nothing breaks. I owned a bike shop for years and it just always amazed me how inexpensive racing a dirt bike was compared to some of the other motorsports.

NHRA Nationals are mind bending. The fuel cars are the wildest damn thing I think I've ever seen.

Everyone needs to experience NHRA and World of Outlaws. Just thinking about it makes me tingle.
