Yeah, they could do a 'wall of shame' but I guess you just gotta realize a lot of these guys are still young and don't even have a fully developed brain yet. Add in a lot of money, egos can get weird and they can make dumb decisions. That shouldn't define the entirety of their career. People make mistakes growing up all the time, me and you both I'm sure.

If you ever find yourself in Phoenix, I'll have a bike for you to ride and you can tell me how we compare to your tracks!

Right on! I’ve ridden in New Mexico and Utah and southern Colorado but never AZ. We have hero dirt here in MN so it’s a different deal altogether but I appreciate the offer and hope to take you up on it.

we have a club track that is 800-1000 a year per member. 35-40 isn't outrageous but most tracks open to public here are $25.

$200 +4 hours of volunteer work a year per family here. Gets you a SX, 2 MX, flat track, vintage mx, and some single track to ride on. It's crazy hardpack though, but they are finally bringing in some mulch to mix in to it. I grew up riding sand and ruts, I'll take it anyday over concrete hard dirt.

The industry has always been tightwad level 10. What's a pass cost for a year, few grand? Do they have any idea how many regular old boring middle class jobs there are out there where employers happily pay that much for their employees to go to school, or get training? I don't even blame the rider as much as the industry overall. Any factory or support team in SoCal should be paying for any of their racers to ride down there as much as they want. Heck it should almost be mandatory.

This is correct. It is part of the expenses to fulfill the job, plus there is no tax on it. It is almost like a laptop, no company tells their employees to bring their own laptops because the company was nice enough to give an office and a desk.
Different trades and different companies have different standards. Look at it like a blue collar trade:

In many trades it's traditional to supply some of the tools used to do the work. Mechanics, electricians, machinists, welders, etc. all do this.

Some companies (teams) provide a portion of the tools necessary to race professionally and other companies supply the whole package including the uniforms (helmet, boots, gear) and a practice facility.

Yeah, I totally agree. The track owners told the rider they are no longer allowed at the facility because of what they did which is fair. They shouldn't feel expected to publicly name/shame the dude over a mistake, granted if they did I wouldn't be upset about it either, but I don't feel it's necessary. Now if this guy made it a habit I would say go ahead and make it public but like I mentioned earlier, hopefully he learned his lesson without the need of everyone on social media attacking him because of it.

$40 isn’t bad in the scheme of things. Tracks aren’t printing cash or anything, let them charge what they have to or they’ll keep disappearing
I have a ton of time and money into just a private track. In my mind $50 would be a good deal to ride a properly prepared track. Most around here are charging about $25 which is a bargain.

Exactly. We all complain about tracks closing, if I can pay another $5 or $10 per day to keep them around and encourage new options to open, I’m all for it.

And if you were the track owner, that would totally be fair. What I'm saying is the track owners (who this directly affects) dealt with it how they felt necessary. If they don't want to name the suspect, that's fine. If they want to, that's fine as well. It doesn't affect you or me, so we don't have a say on whether they do or not.

I thought all riders are subcontractors to the teams and run their own business ie. ken roczen racing, Eli Tomas racing etc. Regardless how much you make, paying to ride is a complete tax write off from what I understand. So not really doing himself any favours by trying to cheat the system.

I remember bitching about paying $25 to ride. And sneaking in and not paying the honor box during the week when my local track was not prepped. Then it closed down. It then hit me the gravity of what being a cheap ass does. No it was not all my fault but i was def not helping things. Pay your tracks. Throw them a little extra now and again if they are doing a good job. It’s worth it.

I was in SoCal before east coast SX and saw a couple factory 250 guys do the opposite at Pala. They were riding supercross but would go down and cruise a couple laps on the main track.

Whoever this was at Milestone I could assume was riding outdoors but maybe wanted to ride around the SX track? If so they definitely should've cleared it with someone at the track before doing it.

Shifting the blame is probably what perpetuates the sense of entitlement.......

We have a local track the guy basically has a box, that you print and sign a sheet and put 10 bucks in to ride day light to dark and offers free camping.

And believe it or not I hear guys says they get there gas money from the box.. unbelievable.

$40 to ride the 2 tracks near me. $60 at FOD without a membership and it’s $100 to Buy the yearly membership and a factory rider is trying to avoid $20 to ride?

We had a high profile pro arrive at a local track here and he refused to pay because he felt he was above it. Track owner sent him packing. He came back about an hour later with his $20.00.

It’s $20! Pay the damn $20 like the rest of us goons and ride.

SX practice tracks are typically $75.

Looks to me like Milestone posted this to let others know this behavior is not tolerated...as opposed to putting some idiot on blast.

If he keeps acting like a spoiled child, then by all means...let the world know.

As for Factory teams paying to ride a public track...why would they when they spend big money to build a private test track/ facility. I get it, variety, but in all honesty, these guys are riding to get fitness and time on the bike...stay sharp, etc. They already have the skills to ride SX.

The Public SX tracks are for guys "learning" to ride whoops, time rhythm sections, and stuff like.

Fair point but tax write off doesn’t mean free for them

I love the “you can write that off” line. A tax write off is a 30% discount, not a freebie. People are clueless.

*totally not even referencing this thread. Not saying anyone was saying that. Your comment just struck me.
