$9299 for a 2016 KTM 450 SXF!

Here in AUS at the moment dealers are running out '15 KX/RMZ/CRF 450's for ~$8,500. The '16 Kato is $12,000 here !!!. Now that $3,500 difference, i mean without getting caught up in all the marketing hype, is there really THAT much of a difference in performance? Is the average rider really going to go 2,3 or 5 seconds a lap faster on the Kato? No chance. I am a Blue fan; however my next bike i'd see which bike i could get the best deal on (bikes are so close these days). Plus use the savings on ride fees, tyres, fuel etc, so you can ride the thing!

Yep - its a constant comparison in the mountain bike world, and for a good reason. Mountain bikes are easily in the 5-8k range all day long, which I think is completely insane.

A friend of mine just bought his KID an S-Works Demo8 for $9999. WTF.

On principle alone I won't spend more on something with pedals than a motorcycle.

I do wish moto prices would stay in the 8k range...at some point this has to level out. A little.

Well, I officially pulled the trigger last night and left a deposit on mine. It will be here in September and my final price was $8090 OTD after the $300 rebate for attending the KTM demo day (negotiated price was $8390). Fingers crossed that I grow to love it and don't regret this decision.

The price is a bargain. How much would it cost to install a hydraulic clutch on a big 4 bike? How much would it cost to get the weight of a big 4 bike down to the KTM weight? My quess is at least 5000$ to lighten up a big 4 bike down to the KTM weight and you still have to kick the jap bike. 2017 might bring e start on the 450 Honda, I bet Yamaha announces an option for their 2017 450's.

Let's not forget that the quality of the KTMs and Husqvarnas are on another level, that's why they are a bit more expensive. But we need to remember that MX is a relatively cheap motorsport, even supermoto is way more expensive than MX!

My dealer told me today he ordered 4 of the 2016 450SXFs and they only allotted 1 to him. They are keeping the numbers low so the selling price won't have to be discounted. The 2016 KX450F is starting to look much better.

I totally agree. Also, I have never felt the quality or engineering is better on the KTM, they just come with some trick parts stock. Now the Japanese bikes come with good bars, good rims, good brakes, great suspension and some really forward thinking engineering. That said, none of that is knock on the KTM, and I think MXD made a great choice and will enjoy the hell out of that new bike. Instead of sitting around Davy Millsaps style and waiting for parts to come in for a rebuild, MXD will be out shredding a new, top of the line bike. Sweet!

We could all just buy a 2004 F150 and put a new motor and trans in it and some new wheels and shocks, but I would rather just buy a new Raptor if I had the money. You only live once.

The mountain bike prices are totally insane, but all bikes are definetely not equal. I just went from a $650 hardtail to a $2300 full suspension. Normally hardtail to full suspension comes with a weight gain, but the new one is way lighter. Plus it shifts quicker/smoother, absolutely flies on rocky downhills confidently, climbs much better, and besides the shock, the forks are in another galaxy from the old bike. BUT, if it weren't for the downhills and rock gardens, I would rather ride the cheap hardtail all day. The new bike is twitchy and seems to only be good for a pretty narrow range of conditions. Other than carbon frames and I'm sure higher quality drivetrains, I can't imagine why there are hardtails out there costing 10 grand. i can maybe see why a full suspension could potentially go for 6 - 8, but still man.......damn
Another note, I looked at some waverunners the other day and to get one that'll rustle your biscuits worth a damn, it's like 13 - 15 grand MSRP. That's a huge price for a toy. And I really, REALLY don't get how all the rednecks around here have Razrs that cost almost 20k brand new, plus another 2 or 3 in tires/accessories, a 50,000 truck, ATV........yeah sure some of those guys have high salaries, but they are exceptions, probably rare exceptions. I guess it's just how you prioritize your finances. I know guys who are in their 40s, make solid middle to upper middle class salaries have buy a new bitchin truck every couple years, sink thousands and thousands on toys, 500 channels, you name it, but have absolutely nothing in a 401k. Zero dollars. I can't even imagine how anyone does that. Literally cannot understand what that thought process has to be. Sorry to get off topic......

That tactic will never work with motocross/offroad consumers. They will find the dealer within 500 miles that have a few in stock, get a crazy low quote over the phone then run to every local dealer and demand they match the price. When a dealer doesn't match it, they will come on vital and drag the dealers name through the dirt and say how they are getting gouged and ripped off. I guess you haven't heard, guys like the Donald didn't get rich paying over cost for everything. Why should you? Lol. Just joking of course.

You can have fun on any bike, but to say that a certain bike won't make you faster is just ridiculous. A 20 year old 2 stroke won't come close to hanging with a new 450 unless you suck horribly at riding both. It's not all about bike, but it is partially about the bike.

take the gay ass spoke skins off that bike and it is sexy as hell! also u can by that bike in ny/pa for $8500, if not $8k easily, BUT, id still buy the KTM

I'm sure that it's a location thing. KTM is projecting to sell a certain amount of 2016 bikes and they are sending them to locations that they feel will have the best chance of selling. I bet the last thing they want is to end up like SUSZUKI having to do 0% APR for 7 years and $6k out the door prices just to move their left over inventory at the end of the model year run. My 2 main local KTM dealers are stocking a bunch of new bikes but I'm guessing the Phoenix area just historically sells more than other locations. My guess is California will be getting way more than the Phx shops too.

I guess all I'm saying is I feel like the reason KTM is so successful over the past few years is because they don't do things like the Japanese... KTM's in my area typically sell for much closer to actual MSRP than their Japanese counterparts from what I've seen. Might be tough on the consumer but it's great on the bottom line.

It is the clutch fine feel, not as important in moto, but for offroad technical stuff the clutch feel is everything. Still some of the jap bikes are BHP's compared to the new KTM moto bikes. That weight at the top intermediate and pro level is hard to overcome.
