You could make an argument that this belongs in Old School Moto and the mods can move it if they want but this takes me back to when I became addicted to MX.. I hope it does the same for some of you. https://youtu.be/drMJd1v2UqU

75 next April 2 YZ 125's and a Triumph 250 getting Clake SLR Rear brake and keeping the foot brake. (my right foot is 1 1/2" shorter) I have a thick 3/4" sole lift and not very good feel. The frame without the engine has a 155 on the way, first of the year from CA. (have a complete 134cc motor for sale) The other YZ is a 144 and set up for offroad. Waiting on the brake lines that go from the SLR to the rear master cylinder. To make the SLR work on a yamaha, I purchased Bremso...

Haven’t been on a bike in 7 years, due to bad TKR! Or a 125 in 40 years. Last one was a 86 CR125.

I hate the new system and always have. I loved the old system where only the number riders from the previous year rode with the number 1. Everybody else got a number based on there total points for SX and MX. Then the next year it was exciting to see how low your favorite riders numbers got. It clearly indicates how good a season they had the prior year. If your a real fan you can learn the riders new numbers.

Way better system for the "Casual" fans, lower #'s = fast guys, 3 digit #'s = new or not so fast guys. The "Branding" identity argument is muddy. # 7 James Stewart and Seven gear correct ? Nope, Plessinger. #4, RC, The GOAT ! , Nope, Baggett, eerr wait, Sexton. #2's been McGrath, Villopoto and Webb, and on and on.

I don’t know man, when I was 6 all the riders got new numbers based on how his they where and it was awesome seeing all the new looks at the opening rounds. I don’t think we where any smarter back then and we figured it out pretty fast.

I don't know how old you are, but I disagree with premise Japanese OEMs were pumping out crude bikes in the 1980's. I lived through it and rode the really basic crude stuff and unreliable if you want to talk about most the European stuff that made it to USA in the 1960's. The technology advanced by leaps and bounds by the time big 4 arrived here starting to sell purpose made race bikes. People take for granted single shock rear suspension, water cooling, reed valve induction, disc brakes and more. Go watch a documentary or even written accounts of...

A class full of 79/80 RM125’s, 79 KX125’s, 80 YZ125’s and 80 CR125’s would be an absolute blast. Air/Drum and basic, but decent suspension and power. Vintage, but fast enough to get after it.

All I know is I would love to have a 1981 - 83 RM125. Best bike I ever rode.

If I could buy a "new" RM125X or '83 YZ100, I'd have them in my shop right now. I enjoy the older bikes much more than the latest computerized offerings. Heck, I'd even get another '81 KX125 (last year air-cooled). An '81 YZ250 would get a Hannah Replica kit installed before it got comfortable on the work stand. Edit: that's assuming they weren't ridiculously priced and parts were readily available.

Up until recently I raced with a vintage group here in Arizona. I think the club was averaging about 75 to 100 entries an event and everyone was having a great time. Vintage racing really requires an old school track and the bikes are getting pretty used up so the sport really (at least here in AZ) is kinda up against a wall and the program/club has all but gone away. While the racing was fun and seeing bikes from my youth was a hoot, my question though isn't really specifically about vintage MX but more about bikes that are...

That is Bone Valley MX/ATV Park. There is one track there now and this is new additional track built by Dream Trax. It is a nice tame safe track, good for us older guys and vintage bikes as well. I don’t think it will have big jumps for all of you fast guys, none the less a good place to...
