mxtech1 Added a reply to Is riding a big bike (250T or 450F) making you slower?
2/20/2012 6:24am 250T are hard to beat because they are such versatile bikes. 125's are so much fun, but like you said, require alot of maintenence with top ends and clutches. If you don't do alot of racing and enjoy working on your bikes (and have the money to replace parts on time) a 125 would be a blast. If you race...

mxtech1 Added a reply to Factory Bike Friday: Stewart's JGR Yamaha
2/18/2012 8:56am I wish some people could see past Stewart and realize JGR is so much bigger in the grand scheme of things than just one guy. The things they are doing with the bike takes so much knowledge, engineering, and fabrication power. It seems like you guys all want to bash the team because they are doing their own thing and...
mxtech1 Added a reply to Factory Bike Friday: Stewart's JGR Yamaha
2/18/2012 5:14am I would like to see you take just one of those custom parts and make it work on a stock bike. Either you have no appreciation for technology and trying to push the envelope or you just felt like being an asshole.

2/17/2012 8:12am your valves are out of clearance.
No, fork components are all common parts that can be swapped. I would however replace all the bushings and seals because those do wear/mate to the surface they ride on. Change the part and you are changing the surface which may not allow for a proper seal on a used bushing or seal.
mxtech1 Added a reply to Let's talk about suspension and more importantly, sag
2/17/2012 5:19am The proper way to be positioned is standing in the "attack" position because this is the amount of weight your pegs will transfer to the chassis most of the time while you are riding. Your fuel tank should be held at the level at which you start your moto with. The aftermarket suspension companies have done countless hours researching stuff...

2/14/2012 11:33am aaahhh I see. nothing like wating till the last minute to do your homework huh?
A wise man once told me..."A lack of preparation on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part"
mxtech1 Added a reply to Rechroming fork legs??
2/14/2012 11:28am I've yet to find a suspension shop that does in-house chroming, anodizing, DLC, or TiNi coating. You'll notice nearly every suspension shop offers these services, but they are sub-contracting your forks out to a local business that specializes in plating, which they usually make a profit from.
I've used these guys in the past and had great results

2/14/2012 10:33am This question only seems to be as urgent as your mechanical abilites and fabrication skills...
But yes, they will swap. The only difference in most of those years would be the cylinder head bracket. The mounting locations on the cases have remained the same.
mxtech1 Added a reply to Emig called it on Eli
2/14/2012 8:33am Yet 99% of you that commented on this thread would have been bitching if Erin WOULDN'T have talked to Eli after he wrecked. You guys would of been all butt-hurt because Erin didn't do her job down on the floor getting the inside scoop.
Here's an idea for Feld....they need to make a press box area near the podium stand...
mxtech1 Added a reply to Daytona SX question
2/14/2012 5:36am I've never been to Daytona, but one of my good friends went several years ago. He said you could buy a more expensive ticket that got you down by the side of the track (standing on a portion of the NASCAR track) or a cheaper general admission ticket that allowed you sit in the grandstands. I'm not sure on prices...
mxtech1 Added a reply to Fork settings for whoops?
2/14/2012 5:26am ^^^This.
Work on your technique before you start tweaking on your bike. Keep practicing the whoops faster and faster until you feel like you are over-riding the suspension. At that point, that's when you should go in and start trying to improve your settings.

2/13/2012 1:30pm It's to hard to tell you what's going to work without being there with you at the track to watch the suspension. Try roughneck's to start with...that sounds like it's somewhat close. Start tuning from there. Adjust the clickers harder and softer to see which helps or makes it worse.
For a SX style track, you will want to shorten...
mxtech1 Added a reply to Favorite Lids??
2/13/2012 7:16am I was always a long time user of mid-range helmets (the most expensive I ever bought was a $350 troy lee.) I always wanted a Shoei, but could never bring myself to pay MSRP for one. I finally got lucky and caught a brand new one on Ebay for $415.
I can now say I will never go back to...
mxtech1 Added a reply to 08 YZ450F - Neutral Safety Switch Broken Bolt
2/11/2012 9:48am You would probably be ok with only one bolt. Dab some RTV silicone on the other side to help hold it down. Make sure you get it fixed though and keep an eye on it if you HAVE to race with it in that condition.
mxtech1 Added a reply to Fork assembly tips anyone?
2/11/2012 8:13am The bottom bushing holds the outer fork tube on center of the inner for tube. If the bottom bushing is worn it will cause the fork tube to ride unevenly on the bushing and wear it. So to answer your question, it is equally important that both bushing are in good shape.
Your biggest gain will be making sure the...
mxtech1 Added a reply to 14 1970's mini bikes on Pawn Stars
2/10/2012 10:36am That so called "expert" was significantly low on all his values which I think threw Rick off. $16,000 seemed a bit high for the lot, but $10-12,000 would have been a great lot price. Hold on to them for another 20-30 years and probably double your money. Those bikes are good investments when kept near OEM condition.

Off-topic here, but i believe I met you one time on a Saturday night before the 2007 Glen Helen National. I was working for #443 Jeff Mort and you did a video on him.
If memory serves...you served us some pretty tasty tacos and a few beers and some good stories
mxtech1 Added a reply to Fork assembly tips anyone?
2/10/2012 9:51am Seem to be asking some pretty basic questions from someone that's worked on "6 sets of Showa 46 Twinchambers"
IMO, you do one set, one time...nothing will change within that given model fork even if you do 1,000 sets.
It riddles me that you seem to question the tolerances and fitment of mass-produced, accurate, and repeatable parts made 100% on...
mxtech1 Added a reply to What was the oddest mechanical failure you've had during a race?
2/10/2012 5:44am this happend to a kid one time when I was a mechanic for him....
He insisted helping me work on the bike because he was bored (knowing he was terrible at working on bikes) so I gave hime a few no-brainers....oil chain, check air pressure, and clean the air filter and put it back in. I'm busy doing a top-end...
