I need to know in the next hour or so if a 2002 RM 125 motor will mount up in a 2003 rm 125 frame. From what I've read it should work but based on the part #'s, they're different. Can anyone confirm it would for me. Thanks in advance.

Unless they completely re-designed the motor, I doubt it's a problem. The cases and head stay would have to be different. Try checking that. Not the cylinder #'s, different porting would change part #'s. I'd bet there's no difference. Zook already knew they were heading in the 4-stroke direction by then. Probably 3 to 4 years before their first 4-stroke was released. Not wasting money on 2-stroke improvement.

This question only seems to be as urgent as your mechanical abilites and fabrication skills...

But yes, they will swap. The only difference in most of those years would be the cylinder head bracket. The mounting locations on the cases have remained the same.

Hey how is the frame swap going? I have a 2001 rm125 with a cracked frame so I recently bought a 2002 rm125 frame to replace it. I purchased my frame on ebay just like you did. I got a 2002 frame because after I did some research, it appears the 2003 frame is different than the 2001 and 2002 frames in a few areas. This is why the frames have different part #'s. Here is where I am getting this info:

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/240/500/Motorcycle-Article/2003-Suzuki-RM…

http://motocross.transworld.net/1000020681/features/first-impression-20…

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2002/10/23october02suzuki2003rm125/

I am pretty sure any 01-up rm125 motor will bolt up into any 01-up rm125 frame. The 2004-up motors are completely different internally but I am almost certain the motor didn't change externally. The only mount that would have changed through the years is the cylinder head stay mount but I doubt that changed. Like the other guy said, the cases never changed so those frame mounts didn't change.

Suzuki made the 2002 frame stiffer than the 2001 frame and I didn't want to have to buy new footpegs and brake pedal so those are the reasons I got an 02 frame and not an 01 or 03. Also, the 03 airbox was "redesigned" and I didn't want that to be another issue.

Have you noticed any differences with the footpeg mounts, brake pedal mount, or airbox mounts on your 03 frame compared to the 02 frame?
