mxtech1 Added a reply to How many hrs too many - KTM 150
8/19/2011 6:04am 50 hours would probably a litte on the low side for a 2 year old bike, but like you said it's clean so he might be about right. The easiest way to tell is look at the rub patterns on the frame and engine covers where the rider's boots rest. If it's clean without alot of paint rubbed off or...

8/19/2011 5:49am It's not safe to ride until you figure it out. If you run it out of antifreeze you have a chance of destroying the engine. If the weather was really hot and you let the bike idle until it got too hot with no air-flow through the radiators then it is normal for it to overflow coolant. But if the...

mxtech1 Added a reply to Why would Honda want to sabotage Reeds Title chances ?
8/18/2011 1:12pm During the race I remember Emig making the comment about "now's the time the Honda guys should pitboard out to Barcia to let Reed by" as the end of the race was getting closer, but no such thing ever happened. I was thinking that same thing to myself because it only makes sense that Barcia should help Reed gain 2...

8/17/2011 12:30pm I guess i should probably add a 4 stroke won't need rebuilt as often as a 4 stroke, but the average rider is probably only doing a top end rebuild on the regular only once a season or once every 2 years ( unless they blow it up in between) so that might now matter for you. And also, if...

8/17/2011 12:26pm You will have more maintenence with the 4 stroke. the oil will need changed more + an oil filter, you have to keep a close eye on the valve clearance, and then when it comes to the time when you have to rebuild your cost will be about 3x more expensive to do a top end if you have to...

8/17/2011 12:21pm Good motor, good brakes, good clutch, well built. Biggest con is they don't handle well and the suspension is somewhat unbalanced in stock form. But, i've seen good results by running the proper spring rates and a revalve and changing the triple clamp offset. Overall, good bike, just needs some tweeking in the suspension department if you are a competitive...

8/16/2011 6:01am With your size and you have some riding experience I think a 450 would be best for you. Any of the 450's from the big 4 make good bikes form about '07 on. Especially for the type of riding you want to do it. Just find a bike that's been taken care of and enjoy it!

8/16/2011 5:22am X2! Think of the stealth they will be able to claim when they can put some marines on nearly silent motorycles that can easily navigate rough, offroad terrain. That R&D can be adapted to any other type of vehicle. If, and this is a huge if here, something like this actually materailizes, I think motocross/sport racing will simply be a...

8/16/2011 5:15am It always amazes me at how long pros will keep holding onto the bars during a crash! human instinct is to bail at first sign of trouble but these guys have learned to overcome that. on the other hand though, I guess I have seen some pretty sketchy situations where pros have rode something out that would make any less...

8/15/2011 11:30am The AMA needs to take sand bagging and advancement more seriously. I would go to the extent to say they need to put someone in charge and make it their only responsibility to oversee advancement. The AMA runs their program by assigning districts heads and personel at the local level. They should take another step foward by creating positions at...
mxtech1 Added a reply to Pros keeping index finger on clutch?
8/13/2011 7:46am Most experienced and pro riders aren't using the clutch to upshift. also keep in mind they aren't completely pulling the lever in. They usually have the lever setup so they only have to pull it a small amount to start disengaging the clutch so they can fan it through ruts, whoops, loam, etc. This is why pros are constantly using...
I've got tech 8's and i absolutely love them. The tech 8's seem to get overshadowed alot because of all the hype that has been created by the tech 10's. The teck 8's have been around for so long they have them dialed in! Plus, all the new technology used in the tech 10's has been applied to the tech...

8/13/2011 5:32am race fuel and get your jetting spot-on with the pipe its going to bring the engine to life! You aren't going to get much mod work done on a four stroke for only $500. You might try to bump the compression up with a JE or PC piston kit. Suspenion - that is a whole other topic itself. What have...

8/11/2011 11:40am This was what I was afraid of with the first and second year bikes to feature FI and added electrical components. I'm just not sure the factories have done enough R&D yet to decide how well they are going to work over the bike's life. It is just so hard to replicate the type of beating and shock parts take...

8/11/2011 11:30am Not sure of the exact mm size but if you buy a tool from race tech, pit posse, tusk, factory connection, etc. the tool will come with 2 different sized ends. This tool will work for you as well as 90% of all the other late model bikes
