Think about it, the only person Barcia affected was Chad Reed.

Doesn't seem like a smart move unless they think Reed threw in the towel already.

Reed has to beat Dungey and Villopoto to win the title, not Barcia.

Reed had nothing for RV or RD. Nothing. At least Honda put a bike on the box.

Not sure if they thought it through that far Jay. They probably didn't think Barcia was going to beat Reed anyways. It sounds like a good idea to have Barcia out there though , as he could of been used as a road block for RV and RD. The bad news is......I don't think anyone knew JB was going to be that fast. I'm glad he's on that 450 to be honest. He's fun to watch.......so let the chips fall where they may is what I say.

They could have let Canard sit out the entire season also....but they didn't.
He could have been a threat to Reed & possibly Windham could have also.
Bottom line is....I would assume they need/want their own riders out there who can finish towards the front.

That's what I'm thinking, Team Honda must need to run their race program regardless of who else on a Honda might have a chance.

Still doesn't seem like a smart move not to mention basically admitting Barcia has no chance to win on their 250F

I thought the same ..why shoot your self in the foot...way to stand behind your rider....fail!
maybe they hoped #17 would crash in front of either for points.

There is a fair amount of money spent by Honda to have their presence/Race Team out there.
Give them salary guys something to do I guess. Wink

I'm sure they look at it as ...Reed is a big boy and has to beat everyone to win it .....and win it on his own.
If he was under their tent, things could be much different.
But he isn't.

Maybe they thought JB would take out RD in that crash and end his season?

i think they for sure want one of their own guys up front, but were hoping that Trey or KW or even BamBam might get between Chad and RV/RD and help him in the points. The thing to remember is how much things have changed in the last 3 rounds. Everything changed on the 1st lap of moto2 at Millville, they went from trying to stretch a points lead to playing catch up. If twotwo cant get out in front the ryans, no one can help.

I thought it was a bad decision, but now that the dust has cleared there was Red at the front of both classes and Chad's not up to speed. From the tube we watched alot more '11 CR then we saw of that '12 KX. Chad still has to beat the Ryans and they both are throwing it down as this thing races to the WFO end.
I'm "Super Pumped" for Chads epic season and I'm sure I would be "Super Duper Pumped...and then some", if he can still pull this one off.

Good point mxpitt.

What if Chad had won and Barcia second with the Ryan's in third and fourth? Then Honda would have been geniuses.

Honda is there to race and it is silly to think that they wouldn't want more bikes up front.

So stop it. Plus, Barcia will be king.

Because it sells more Honda CRF 450's when a kid who has never raced one in the states jumps in the shark tank and shows them his rear fender.

I'd be willing to bet Reed sold more Hondas this year for Honda then Carmichael ever did and he hasn't won a title on one yet...................................and Honda is in business to sell bikes right?

If Reed is worthy of winning the championship then he should probably be beating Barcia shouldn't he?
Not to jump on GuyBs nuts at all, but seriously 500guy, you just make things up! For real, it's bizarre! I read the first page and was just thinking why no one had called you out on your totally fabricated rumor/lie... I mostly just read this site for my moto news and agree that bench-racing is speculation most of the time, but 500guy you just make things up out of thin air. It's embarrassing...
That's all, proceed.
lol are you kidding? Having Barcia in the 450s is great! Reed is down one entire moto and well... theres several left and with barcia taking ppl out.. by the end of the year he will have taken out Villo and Dungey multiple times.. He almost got the job done this weekend with Dungey... oh well on to the next week.

At some point in the next 6 motos he may finish in between them giving chad a positive points swing.
Then all of a sudden its genius.

Bigger question is:
Does slam bam race chad like he did dunge if the situation presents itself?

I can tell, already, that some folks "don't get it"; so, why don't we do the math for them?

How many points/podiums have been taken away from Chad by Barcia's "presence"?

1 podium

8 points

Again, all Chad has to worry about is beating RV2 and Dungey. If Reedy handles his business, Barcia is a non-factor.

I usually agree w/your posts 100%, but you seem to want a "Let Broc Bye" repeat on this one?

You are kidding right? If Reed can't beat Barcia then he does not desrve to win a title. IMO, the title is a two pony race from this point on anyways.

There you go. If Barcia is beating Reed, the Reed isn't winning the title anyway. And you never know, Barcia could wind up taking one of the Ryans out...if you'd been reading VitalMX lately, Barcia is a dangerous rider who doesn't know how to jump straight.

Or both. That said, if Honda were smart they would tell Barcia to start in between the Ryans, not next to Chad as this one from LeBig shows...

If Reed loses the title by 8 points some of you will be singing a different tune. I was wondering what the hell Honda was thinking the entire time I was watching slam bam. And the bullshit move he tried on Dungey reminded me of something JS7 would do. It's a good thing he went down and not Dungey.

Bingo.

When someone like Ray Blank runs the company and they look at this (and he will)...there may be some VERY uncomfortable people at Bldg 500 in Torrance if it goes down bad...

Running "interference" is what has been done historically...including "Let Broc Bye"...or the early-mid 80's when extra "works-bikes" seemed to show up for new/additional riders towards the end of the season.

Btw, what "if" Chad's leaving Honda for another brand in '12 and what "if" Honda knows this?

Chad would not have gone 3-3 if Barcia wasn't there, so he only 2 pts. per moto because of him, which is 4pts. total

During the race I remember Emig making the comment about "now's the time the Honda guys should pitboard out to Barcia to let Reed by" as the end of the race was getting closer, but no such thing ever happened. I was thinking that same thing to myself because it only makes sense that Barcia should help Reed gain 2 points. When all these people make such a big deal about how championships can come down to the line and every point is valuable, yet Honda is instructing and giving the tools to a rider, that has absolutely no business in regards to the title hunt, to go out and win. I understand a win or podium finishes are valuable for manufacturer publicity, yea it makes sense, but Barcia should have Honda instruction as to not interfere with their top championship contender. There's a valid point where Reed had nothing for the Ryan's but it all comes back to every point counts.

Do you guys think it has anything to with Reed running his own team 2-2 motorsports and being backed by American Honda instead of Reed being employed as an American Honda rider?

I know a title is important to any manufacturer, but does a title weigh with more value and concern through the season when the rider in the hunt is riding for the factory team and not a satelite team/privateer?
