Hey guys sorry im sure this has been talked about already. But, im about to go pick up an 11 this week and ive heard of the tps breaking or going out a lot. Is there anything to avoid that or a recall from kawi? I know at least 4 people that when they got their bikes about 15 hours into theirs went out. I really dont feel like dropping $150.00 every 15 hours

So odd that you made this thread.

I just did a mod motor for a pro on a brand new bike 11 KXF250 for Unadilla. He rides it and bike is missing, not idling right... so on.

It was TPS.

So far I've been pretty lucky I guess, and this was the only bike I've had a failure on... but I guess they're out there.

So the TPS is literally being damaged by crash or roost impact and this guard is the answer????

well, my friend who works for the KTM here in Finland(KTM 250f:s are having the same problem btw) ,told it's caused sometimes by a rock/roost or something, but said that its also the water what destroys it. Its compensation water or just a leak, he didnt know. But i have kx250f -11 and i have ridden about 20 hours without problems. All i do is not to point that part with a pressure washer, and i spray silicone to it afterwards. Also dielectric grease is good for the connectors.

And, kawasaki and KTM are selling protection caps for it. I havent bought it yet but i will. Pic

This was what I was afraid of with the first and second year bikes to feature FI and added electrical components. I'm just not sure the factories have done enough R&D yet to decide how well they are going to work over the bike's life. It is just so hard to replicate the type of beating and shock parts take on a bike. I have a good inclination to believe that electrical component failure is going to become more common on the long haul. But as time goes on, the designs will improve along with reliability.

We've had it pretty easy previously when most failures came from a burnt up CDI or a broken stator wire, which is rare to see. All of that is going to start changing now that more electronic pieces are finding there way into MX bikes.

Im a nervous wreck about buying one haha. I always said im against first year technology and its their first year with the EFI and with the shocks. Im pretty much just getting it because of the contingency with kawi is almost impossible to pass up

I am really pissed that my TPS went bad after only 10 hours on my 2011 KTM 250SXF. I asked to buy the protector but it hasn't been released yet. I had to fork out 150 because it wasn't covered on warranty. Apparently you're not allowed to wash your bike. Pretty shitty after forking out 7 grand.

You're right. Its just ridiculous. My friends are joking that i shouldnt ride if it's raining because my bike cant take it lol.

But the protector is released? Atleast one of my friends purchased it last week.

That lil' piece goes in the Autoclave right next to F1 parts....and it's made from the very same stuff, too.

Note: $86 once & you stop worryin' about $150 part...all the time; also, the VERY SAME part the Team runs.

I guess as long as the Team uses it it's worth $86 Whistling

Selling things to businesses and corporations for outrageous prices is the norm.

OH, I see, typical bitter-beer-face negativity.

No worries.

Sorry if I sound negative, but I just don't see that being worth $86. Like lots of other parts that are over priced.

I have a question for you:

Do you "make" anything? Are you in Manufacturing...or...maybe even...do you provide a Service?

I "made" things at my past jobs and I also understand trying to make a profit, but when I see some items with a get rich quick price tag on them it pisses me off.

Classic. "Get rich quick" on a low volume part with more carbon in it than a Ackropopo End-Cap...

No worries.

Btw, we made 10 sets of those RM/RN/RH motor mounts...solid C/F.

Btw, those $109 Glide Plates from Light Speed are a smokin' deal. I wouldn't even touch those parts for twice that price...

I love me some trick pieces. CF motor mounts? check...Smile

Of course I'd have to pass on the add on TPS guard. Probably adds a half ounce of weight. Can't have that.....just keep buying the expensive part. LOL

I have had some customers take thiers apart and have found the contacts to have some corrosion on them. They cleaned them and put the TPS back together and it solved the problem. I think TPS and fuel pump issues seem to be industry wide. Everyone is using pretty much rhe same product.

I think that...maybe...

Jus'...maybe...

There may be an option, soon, to change out your KX250F Head Stays & Bolts and ADD the TPS...all the while...saving a bit of weight.

C/F, Ti & Al...replacing a bunch of steel.

All of which will piss of that KY-guy.

I'm jus' sayin'...

I'm a little confused. My smoker has a TPS sensor too. Does it have something to do with the FI that makes it more finicky?

I'm still not getting it.

You guys are saying roost or water is causing the failures yet it seems to happen right on a 15hr schedule?

And some little guard is going to prevent this from happening right on schedule? So if I install the guard at 14.9 hours I will be OK ?????

Is it just a 2011 kawy 250f issue or all 250fs?, Any problems with any 450 s like that?
