Sounds like you might need to adjust your air fuel mixture screw or go up a siz on your pilot. It probably isn't getting enough air when it's hot. If you have to hold the throttle open to get it started, the above is likely.

What kind of bike? you shouldn't have this sort of problem with an Athena kit. Maybe it was a valve hitting the piston and not the piston slapping the head? this would be more common.
