Is there any chance that he lands with honda. It was on racerx that honda is looking at Alessi and him, but both have the same agent and one is good at sx(Brayton) and one is good at mx(Alessi). SX is where the money is so wouldn't they hire Brayton over Alessi and he's got to be cheaper too.

I like Alessi and know he can be a possible title contender outdoors, but I would honestly go with Brayton. IMO brayton would give you more of an overall package for both oudoors and indoors. The biggest challenge would be for him to be top 5 outdoors which I believe he is capable of if he can have the confidence and stay injury free.

I figured Justin Brayton would stay at JGR, is JGR switching brands? I heard they wanted to go red, but wouldn't Honda interfere with their contract obligations with NASCAR. Since it's all one team.

BTW since Brayton returned to outdoors this year it seems like he's faster and more consistent than Alessi.

BUT, I feel like Alessi has more potential than Brayton. If I was the team manager of Honda I would pick Brayton over Alessi though just because Brayton has been solid and Alessi has been struggling a little bit.

Honda has never been in the equation at JGR.

the most interesting rumors in these times of silly-season are often started by some of the agents, not all, "some". Smile

I heard the same btw, doesn't mean it's true at all. Alessi back at Honda HRC? mmmmmh, let me think.....

Brayton as #2 on a Honda or a Suz, why not, JB would do great for them, but JGR must have 1st right of refusal and those guys seem to really like working with each other.

sounds like JGR may be a shitty ride.

no one has ever lasted there more than 2 seasons.....to he'll with the money and the "support"

Is there support or just dictation?

Joe was one of my favorite coaches when he was beating my giants as well as when we were beating him.

Nothing but respect and hope for them to stay in mx and get a title but........do they really know this sport and how to get a rider fit, fast and focused?

mX/sx is like no other

That tiny tiny tiny little bit is a big lotta bit.

And often times just one guy has it.......for 3-4 years

Football......a lotta blame goes around.

Moto?

Not sure why but the message bored's love the teams and mfr's

Yes I meant to spell bored's that way

I would take 800 all day long over JB. I think MA actually could have been more of a outdoor title hunter had he not had the get off early, CR22 hasn't been riding great after his crash either... parallel universes.. Brayton, great rider/guy but with TC41 being the #1 guy over there, 800 would be a great 2nd.

There isn't a lot of wild cards out there. Brayton has proven he gets better every year. He hasn't capped out yet. He's also one of the few guys to EVER, let alone in the past year, beat any of the big 4 straight up. Sure it was only heat races, but he was also one of the few that made it into the top 5 in SX. It was a tough field this year. He has also proven year after year, during timed qualifying he has the speed to run with anyone.

The last big point. He's done all of this on bikes that have been called "inferior" by many. First the KTM, and now the Yamaha 450. Everyone knows he works hard and is drama free.

There is a lot of upside, and very little downside to Brayton. I am thinking that is why he's such a hot property.

Also, he isn't a "been there done that" on one of the factory teams. JGR has been his best ride, and they aren't necessarily proven to be on par with a Factory Honda effort.

Of course, Alessi wouldn't be a bad pick if 5-10th in SX and a podium threat outdoors is what you are looking for. That is definitely not a bad thing, and MIke will definitely get your bike to the front on some starts, and he has a name people know. I do think Alessi, if starting the season out right, could be a title threat outdoors, but I'm not sure as a team manager I'd take the risk.

All of this said, it surely wouldn't surprise me if these rumors are getting pushed out by Brayton's agent to try and motivate JGR to lock him in for the most money possible as soon as possible. Plus, it's always good to have back up plans incase one deal falls through.

Brayton is a very nice rider but I don't see him as a hot property. Brayton is a number 2 rider at best and every factory team seems to have a number 2 rider right now. Metty at Suzuki, Grant at Honda,Weimer at Kawi and Short at KTM. Brayton needs to try and stay at JGR because there is no room for him on a factory team.

As far as JGR not being very good please look at the riders they have had. You are not winning lots of races let alone titles with riders like. Gracyk,Brayton, Summey,Grant, and Milsaps. They need to scoop up young proven talent like Wilson or Barcia. when they move up to the big bike class.

Championship riders cost lots of money Having a awesome bike which they do does not mean much without having top talent riding it.

In any given year, there are three or four real title contenders and potenial multi-race winners, and non-factory teams have a very hard time rounding up enough sponsorship money to hire one of them, particularly when the non-factory teams don't always have the absolute best equipment. If my understanding of JGR is anywhere close to right, they're probably the most professional 450 team out there, but how can they hire RV, Dungey, Canard or Reed? The can't. So they're unilkely to win races unless it's some kind of fluke like Grant winning A1 a couple of years ago.

That's the good thing about MX - it's all about the rider. Or, if you're trying to hire one of those guys, that's the bad thing about MX. The best a JGR type team can hope for is to pick up a rider on his way up that has some ability to win but hasn't won big yet - like maybe Barcia in the 450 class. And even he might be out of their price range due to his success in the 250 class.

I would pay more for Brayton, than Alessi, because of his SX skills and he does have them.
All things equal, they have similar strengths outdoors.

That may be the way to go, but you'd have to hire quite a few riders with the knowledge that they're not all going to work out, and you'd have to tie them up to relatively long-term contracts so they don't bolt to the factory teams as soon as they start winning.

This situation is going to cure itself, though - factory teams are going the way of the dinosaur. MX bikes aren't selling, and they may never really sell again, and factories aren't going to continue to dump $10 million/yr into an effort to promote them. KTM might be the exception because dirt bikes are their livelihood, but the other four (three now) are going to pull the plug eventually, leaving JGR on the top of the heap.

JGR has every resource available and a great team in place to be a title contending team. They seem to be great with the fundamentals and you know the success they have had in nascar with team structure has developed their program. The only limitiation i see with them is that they have not pursued a title contending rider. I am not downplaying the capabilities of the riders they have had in the past, because they are great riders, but they are the riders who are going to go out and put in solid rides every weekend in the top 10, but usually can't be explosive enough to get out and compete for a win without some luck. They need a different kind of rider to get up there on the box and be competing for the win. I felt a healthy josh grant was their best chance, but we know how all that worked out with some bad luck and injuries. They need to offer a great incentitive package to a top rider tp come over and get the job done or pick the next up-and-comer in the amateurs and groom him to become a champion, like suzuki did with dungey. This is a tried and trued method, 99% of the time. Look at what pro circuit is doing by signing AC to a 5 year deal to get him into the pro ranks.

The technoloy and R&D department they have makes any satelite team look foolish, and is as close to a factory development program that money can buy. Keep in mind this is still a start-up team that is probably going to come into full force within the next 2-3 years.

JGR will be in full force when they want to Pay the big bucks. If they don;t want to pay then they are just a cooler version of Vali or any other none factory team out there.

How many other guys could go the same speed or faster than the top 5 last year - ever - let alone week in and week out. You can't teach speed. If they can do it for one, you might be able to help them do it for 20.

Grant is out at Factory Honda. Brayton would be a #2 rider there - a good one at that.

JGR is as good as the factories there equipment wise, they can make anything that they want with all the Nascar ( i think that's how you spell it) machines they can make anything in house, there bikes will be better than the factories soon and they are getting close. If you watch Brayton his bike seems to drive perfectly, Those bikes seem to handle the best out of the factories, I don't know about power but Milsaps did hole shot and he's huge. Mark my words they will be a power house in a few years, but what do I know.....

LIke I said yesterday

No way Brayton goes to Honda. JGR has 1st right of refusal, and he would be 1 and done. Barcia is gonna be on the team in 2013 so it'll prolly be just a guy that needs a bonus only contract, Albertson or T. Hahn or someone of that caliber I think will end up with them

The downside to JB is that he's old. I believe he'll be 28 next year. Unless he's the next Dowd or Windham, he won't be racing much longer. And age will start catching up to him sooner rather than later. Alessi would be more of a long-term prospect.

Though, I think Brayton is the perfect example that you can teach speed. Look at how he's progressed over his career. He started out in AX, and has slowly worked his way up the ranks. Every year he seems to get a little bit faster, no doubt due to his work ethic.

Brayton is a lame duck on that team before he even gets to ride the bike. Barcia is next in line for Honda. Brayton is a one and done if he did indeed sign with Honda.

McGrath/ Brooks team is all Im saying...... Thats Factory bikes also. San Manual/ Monster Factory Honda's...... I wouldn't be surprised if maybe you might see AS29 there also or Pourcel. What you thinking Checkers?
8/21/2011 3:07pm
For some reason, I think an opportunity to ride on a Factory Honda could be what JB needs - mentally to get that next step. He's proven the talent and work ethic is there when he believes in himself.

My prediction is, 2 of the 3 will end up on Brooks' team. Why? Brooks wanted Shorty last year, he's a solid guy, loves his Honda, and may be out at KTM. Brayton and/or Pourcel, as they are in my mind the only two guys who have a chance in hell of beating the top 4 if they get the right breaks. When has Brooks managed a team that didn't have a title threat?

Of course, the other side of me says... Brayton and JGR are a great fit and all this other team talk is just shopping him around to get more money out of JGR.
