mxtech1 Added a reply to YZ250 Piston Number Question?? Need HELP!
1/30/2012 7:19am Like they said...you just need to measure the bore size. Once you know the bore size, start calling around to different piston companies and see if they make a big bore piston to that size. Your proirity needs to be matching the bore size with an appropriate piston, not trying to match up a part number for a direct replacement.

I would start by taking your water pump cover off and checking out the impellar. Spin it and see how freely it turns. It should have a little bit of resitance but not excessive. Make sure none of the tines on the impellar are chipped. You should also inspect the shaft seal and then the gears...
mxtech1 Added a reply to KX250F OVERHEATING
1/30/2012 6:54am I would say you are probably having a problem with your water pump. Usually the cases that I have seen the bearing that the impellar shaft spins on goes bad and it restricts the impellar from turning as fast as it normally does.
Another possibility is that you've developed a a head gasket leak and it's spitting coolant into the...
mxtech1 Started a new thread Putting 250T engines into aluminum frame
1/27/2012 3:37pm Wanting to use my 2007 rm250 engine in a rmz250 af. The obvious question is how is this usually done to fit the pipe? On the af the frame down tube comes directly down and Y's out at a much lower point since the 4 strokes exhaust port is offset to one side. The 250t comes in centered on the...

mxtech1 Started a new thread Is it legal to do this in the main forum?
1/27/2012 1:41pm Is it legal to make a post to advertise for bike service work for a homegrown shop?
I'm talking about discussing service work, labor rates, and contact information to try and bring in new customers.

mxtech1 Started a new thread Irvine, CA and surrounding area info?
1/27/2012 12:21pm Considering a relocation for work. What's it like in Irvine and the surrounding area as far as housing, shopping, night life etc.?
What are 2 bedroom homes going for? And the neighborhoods those houses are in. Any areas to avoid? Are there any cites or suburbs of Irvine within a 15 minute drive that may offer better living?
I've tried...

mxtech1 Started a new thread Is this right...?
1/26/2012 9:13pm I recently sold a used Honda CR250 to guy. it ran good and everything he bought it in cash no big deal. I gave him the registration and papers for the bike which he didn't really look at that well, he basically just threw them in his truck and we loaded the bike up for him. we chatted a bit...

Anybody go?
Henry Wiles wins , 1st race of the year coming off and injury.
Good racing in both classes.
Sad to see a legend, chris carr, on his farewell tour. He definately had the crowd support and respect for the lifetime acheivements he has accomplished through his racing career.

mxtech1 Started a new thread Suzuki's factory withdrawal?
1/26/2012 6:22pm Since Suzuki is pulling the plug on their factory race efforts what's the word on their amateur support program? Are they still going to provide bikes and support to the up-and-comers? What about the amateur contigency program? I'm just wondering how the withdraw at the highest level is going to trickle down. We haven't heard much about how the lower...

mxtech1 Started a new thread Restoring vintage bikes (NEWMANN?)
1/25/2012 12:29pm I am going to restore my first vintage MXer this winter and looking for a good suggestion on what bike to choose. I know I want to do something pre-1983. I don't want to do a super rare machine because I would like to spend more time restoring it than hunting parts. I will tackle a project like that after...

mxtech1 Started a new thread Shot in the dark here...
1/24/2012 11:42am Does anyone know where I can get an Autocad or solidworks 3D rendering of a late-model four stroke dirt bike engine (preferrably a CRF450 engine?) I've chosen to design and detail a custom motorcycle project for my Master's in Engineering final project. Any help would be appreciated. I mainly just need to establish engine mounting points to locate on the...

mxtech1 Added a reply to A tech question- 4T exhaust tuning
1/18/2012 7:31am it's alot easier for a good engine bulder to degree camshafts to maximize the power curve to match a standard aftermarket header. You probably aren't going to call FMF or PC and ask them to make you one-off headers to maximize the performance of your cams so you don't have to adjust the cam degrees. It's just not worth the...
mxtech1 Added a reply to A tech question- 4T exhaust tuning
1/17/2012 10:28am The header length, shape, and diameter have everything to do with it. There's too much tech behind trying to explain it here. Google the differences between race car header lengths and shapes. Most of the information you can learn there can be applied to bikes.
I remember reading an article a long time ago about a test rider who could...

1/16/2012 9:02am I am a little bit confused here.
I do not have a child, nor do I know a sick child in care of a children's hospital. I am just a regular fan.
Am I able to register for the contest and raise the donations in my own name to count towards the results? Or do I pick a registered child...
mxtech1 Added a reply to Best Hydraulic Scissor Lift
1/12/2012 6:45am The scissor lifts that are the size of a regular bike stank work pretty good until you start taking off wheels, suspension, subframe, etc. Anything that will throw the balance of the bike off front to back will cause teetering. I have used these in the past and I really like them, minus the teetering, because they are well built...
